RE: Verizon Home Direct Connect.

I saw a post recently about Verizon Home Direct Connect (VHDC) and decided to try it. VHDC is a replacement connection for your land line. Just undo your wired connection at the box and plug the supplied device into you home phone network and power it up. VHDC is unlimited minutes, free long distance, conference calling, call forwarding and voice mail. All for $20 a month + one time activation, surcharges and various taxes of about $70. Now for the good part! You can take your VHDC device with you in your RV for extended trips. It connects to the cell towers just like your cell phone. It has a rechargeable battery that will operate the device for about 2 hours and is powered by a 12 volt wall wart. So get the necessary plugs and connectors from Radio Shack and power it from your RVs 12 volts. No more worrying about minutes while on extended trips. Take your home phone with you. Verizon will even port you home phone number over to your new VHDC. Richard do you have to have a cell phone service also to make it work? RE: Options for internet when outside of town

i bought the att mifi "elevate" unit and use their 35.00 plan for 3gigs a month. i seems to work good in the rv and at home, but i do have a wilson amp at home and in the mh, so my signal is always strong. i can use the 3g and or the 4g network. ebay has had them for a decent price.

RE: Has anyone tried the electronic pest control devices?

i bought a birdx machine and i run it on low and set it for the frequency for squirrels. i use to see them run under the mh, but didn't know if they getting up on the engine. since i have been using this , i haven't seen any running under the mh, so i think it may be working, but can,t really be sure. its a v10 and there is an awful large area for them to jump on, so i hope it keeps them away.

RE: Fix for loose usb ports??

i don't think you can do much with it short of replacing the motherboard. i have an ibm thinkpad that i used a couple of years ago and it did the same thing, and i found a m.b. on ebay and replace it . not an easy job.you might try and epoxy the plug to the socket, and get an adpter to hook to it.

RE: Reprograming V-10

when going up those small grades, you didn't notice any lugging of the engine or pinging. i remember my old chev 454 didn't downshift ever time the wind changes. it also seems to drop down a gear when you take your foot off the gas and put it back on, even on a level grade.

RE: Netbook Laptops

We use an Acer Netbook with Delorme Street Atlas USA and the Delorme Earthlink GPS receiver that comes with the software. It works well. It actually has more features than most standalone GPS units as you can talk to the computer and ask where you are, how far to go, what is the next turn, etc. With any laptop or netbook used in a vehicle as a GPS, it is important to have a passenger looking at the screen while you drive - or just use the voice directions and avoid trying to see the screen. All you do is plug the GPS receiver - a small box about two by two with a USB cord on it, into your netbook or laptop USB port and put the receiver on the dash board where it has a clear view of the sky, then start the software, and go. It is not like a unit sitting on the dash where you can quickly glance and still see the road while you are driving. It is a lot easier to program a route than with the standalone GPS and you can get a lot more information and detail about what is along your route. Neither Delorme or MS Streets and Trips are made for RVs or Truck routing - and you must always be aware yourself that these can route you on to roads that you cannot travel on with an RV - or take you under low clearances. We have tried both software and we have liked Delorme much better than Streets and Trips. The netbook is small, convenient, and has done everything our larger laptop can do. Ours is a few years old and runs Windows XP home edition. New ones come with Win 7 starter edition - update the Win 7 to a regular version, though it will run most software as is. hi, just wondering what gps antenna you are using. i have the same netbook and win xp, and it does good. i would like to run the netbook with a gps, as i thinh it does a better job then the garmin nuvi, but i was using an old laptop with a randmcnally antenna and street atlas then.

RE: For the ladies...Opinions on convection/microwave ovens

we have had a gas oven in our last 2 m.h. and this is the first micro/convection. wife never used either of the gas ovens before, but we have used the sharp convection, and we like it. you can use the microwave at the same time as convection, it just runs at a lower level. thge display walks you through evrything that you cook. bonus is more underneath storage.

RE: mnotorhome magazine march issue page 4

A lot less GM vehicles without the Saturn, Malibu, Cobalt, HHR etc. The new automatic transmission has taken away most of these. and ford is using the same tranny as gm in a lot of their vehicles as they both went together to come up with the newer trannies
