RE: Reese Hitch Adaptor in new F350, 5th wheel not level

There may be a fairly easy fix to your probelm. But first: What kind of pin box? Is the pin box an extended box? Is the trailer nosing up? Can you lower the pin box? How much clearance between pin box and bed rail with a lowered pin box. Do you think the pin box will hit the side rails? I have Reese with slider and fixed problem.

RE: Air Compressor - 12v or 110v?

Or go to Amazon and buy the Q industries Master Flow MF 1050 for $69. 1/10th the size and does a good job.

RE: Air Compressor - 12v or 110v?

Buy both. I have a 12v that will pressurize to 120 lbs. I use it all the time. Good for when you do not have AC around. I also have an AC pump and use that as well. The one thing I find hard to do is find an air pump at a gas station that will go to 110. You can find them at truck stops, but not gas stations.

RE: Remove scratches

No rubbing compound unless you want to refinish your rig. Get some "Clean and Wax" from Meguiars. Easy to apply and last a long time. About $9.00 for a 14 oz bottle.

RE: Walmart overnighting yes or no?

Some folks on this thread are really against WM or J. I wish I knew if they owned RV parks!

RE: Walmart overnighting yes or no?

We stop at Wally parks now and then and always ask the manager. I also make sure we do some shopping to show our appreciation.

RE: Fun and Games at Flying J

Get an American Express Costco card and get 3% off fuel, 5% off restaurants and 1% on other purchases. If you like Serious radio, they have a service to give you prices of fuel on line as you travel and will give you just stations on your route ahead of you or any direction if you wish. Not free, but it sure beats the headaches.

RE: RVers who are amateur radio operators...

I was a military communications specialist and carried my interest in communications with me when I left the service. I have worked with disaster communications activities and have seen the importance a well organized group of amateur radio operators can make. The cell phone has taken up much of the activities of amateur communications, but in a disaster cell service in frequently interrupted and the amateur is all there is. International disasters depend on amateurs for news and communications. I do not foresee a lessening of importance in amateur communications for a very long time.

RE: Generator

I have the gen, air and TV prep. I put an Onan in the unit and have not decided on air and TV. I have found the gen to be a great asset.

RE: annoying

Always make sure most of the weight of the FW is on the legs. Chocks in place is good insurance. Sometimes I do have to rock the truck back and forth a little to release the tension on the jaws. I apply the trailer brakes as I do that. I also pull the lever forward as I pull out.

RE: Front Caps and Towing

There are variables to consider. For example, you come out of a truck stop with a steep downhill driveway and you need to make a sharp turn to get to the street. At some point you will have the truck even on the street and the FW on the steep slope. If you are close to a 90 degree turn at this point you could take out the rear window. There are other situations, usually backing up, that can get you out of position as well. I do not think a slider is expensive. Maybe a couple hundred bucks and could be good insurance. A rear window can cost a couple thousand plus body work. I guess it all comes down to how lucky you feel.

Dave, Did I see you at Oinksters? Dave is right, we have 3 containers and we use them. I don't know if it makes money, but we do separate.

Not my truck

Forbes on line has this report from Consumer Reports, "Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel In general, Consumer Reports finds heavy-duty three-quarter-ton pickups to be among the most problematic vehicles in production. Specifically, the diesel-powered version of the Ram 2500 is said to be at the back of the pack. It not only received “worst” ratings for poor reliability and excessive ownership costs, but it received among the lowest road-test scores among all 2012 models. While testers praised the truck’s towing abilities and payload capacity (prime attributes among buyers with purposeful needs we should note) they criticized the Ram 2500 diesel’s ride and handling qualities, transmission performance, its noisy cabin and a too-high step-in height."

RE: Waxing a 40ft 5th wheel

I have 38 feet of FW with full body paint and many layers of gelcoat. First year I waxed it twice and I waxed it again last year once. I will wax it again this year once. The front cap gets maybe 6 or 7 coats a year. It is a 2010 FW. I love Maguire marine paste wax. I use touch-up often.

RE: Boondocking First Time Dump or Not To Dump?

Well, my FW has a hose connection in the docking station and when I clean out the black holding tank I run water through the hose for about 10/15 minutes. The water goes to a sprayer in the black tank that spins just like the sprayer in your dish washer at home. It cleans the tank very well. I do add chemicals at the beginning of every trip as it helps breakdown the solids. I do not leave water in the tank when the FW is not in use.

RE: Manual Landing Gear attachment for Drill

Dewalt works good too. Hand cranking is not a major task, but the drill is easier.

RE: Manual Landing Gear attachment for Drill

I have electric landing gear. I found the landing gear, slide gear box and stabilizer box all have the same size manuel hex head. I purchased one separate socket and a 6 inch extension and use my drill. I did not have to do anything special.

RE: 15 watt solar panels

I have not found a system sold on the internet or at RV stores that works unless you have ideal conditions. A three panel system professionally installed on the roof with a good controller will work just fine. The cost will be prohibitive.

RE: 15 watt solar panels

First, the chargers do work and will help maintain a charge in your RV battery. (one not two batteries) This assumes you use the charger as sold and have access to 5 hours of sun ever day. Welcome to the Mojave desert. Second, the cord with the solar cell charger is 5 feet long. The company that sells the solar cells also sells extensions so you can install the panels on the roof of the RV to get the 5 hours of sun light. Problem is, The line-loss consumes power and not enough gets to the battery (ies). So now you buy a second solar cell and double the output. You had better know series from parallel circuits before attempting this addition. Number 2 helps, but now you need a contoller to prevent power from the battery (ies) from going to the cells (power to the cells distroys the cells. Turns out the controller needs power to operate. Either the cells or the batteries can provide that power. There is no sun at night, but the controller still needs power to operate. (Of course you can go to the RV and turn off the system everytime the sun is not out) This is a lot of technical talk to tell you a single cell under system normal condtions does not work. You may find that buying new batteries is cheaper. You will find that there are systems made for RV's. They don't work either.
