RE: E450 Vacuum Distributor Replacement

Well, Easycare approved the work at 10 hours. Still can't quite envision how Ford could have designed the location of a vacuum distributor to take 10 hours to get to it and return unharmed.

RE: E450 Vacuum Distributor Replacement

If you think it is too long of a job, you can always take it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion.... Or call ahead and/or email with photos. At this point, I think I have to wait out the negotiation between the dealer and Easycare. Otherwise I will have to eat the $115 diagnostic fee. If the Ford dealer does the work with an agreement from Easycare, all I pay is the deductible. It just seemed like a lot of time to get to and replace a vacuum distributor when the entire engine could probably be removed and replaced in a similar time frame. Maybe I don't know how complex these systems are.

RE: E450 Vacuum Distributor Replacement

I have a dump question, How old is your rig. I thought that vaccum is not used but a electric motor to move that flap from defrost to heat to a/c. I had problem with my gmc and this is what it was JMHO. (not really ford trained) couple of website that may answer your question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070719153800AA26qQK http://www.justanswer.com/ford/1ytic-450-super-duty-coachman-class-motorhome-vacuum.html It is an '05. Pretty much all the information I have picked up so far points to a vacuum distributor.

E450 Vacuum Distributor Replacement

As we started out on a trip to central California, I noticed that the A/C was running and directed only to the defrost outlets. Knowing that this symptom usually points to a vaccum problem, I took the rig in to the local Ford dealer and, true enough, they diagnosed a failed vacuum distributor. What's interesting though is that the dealer believes that replacement is a 10 hour job (seems high to me) and the Easycare service contract people see it as 3 hours. So far, I'm inclined to let them work it out, but I thought I'd ask if any here has replaced one of these vacuum distributors and how long the service people had to spend doing it. Thanks. ...Bob
