Any one have the Roadmate 1700?
I pulled up the user's manual and can't find any way of informing the GPS of my vehicle height.
I have the RM 5510 and have used it on 4 trips now. Before I go on the trip, I always plan my route with Street Atlas with a low bridge map file. The RM chooses just about the same route as Street Atlas. I am really pleased with the unit. It is not perfect, but is substantially better than my previous Garmin.

I looked at the user manual and could not tell this: does the unit automatically turn on and off when you turn on and off the vehicle?

RE: electric power problem
We just got back from a trip to the Great Smokies with a similar problem. During a storm, the lights dimmed. About 2 days later, while on shore power the battery died. We borrowed a battery charger, but the next day realized that the circuit breaker to the converter had tripped. On the way home, the battery died again. This time it was the fuse in the truck (plus i had left the lights on). Replaced the fuse and all is well
