RE: light weight travel trailer

I vote for the Heartland Edge M22 as well. I didn't need the bunk beds and I wanted something a little longer and so went with a North Trail 28RLS. The quality and factory customer service at Heartland is outstanding.

RE: What gear do I need to use?

You're doing fine, by the above posts saying locking out OD they mean taking it out of D and put it into 3 or 4 or M (depends on what vehicle you are driving). If you didn't understand what they are talking about.
I am not sure what GM vehicles have but my Lincoln and the Dodge van I used to own had buttons that you pressed that took it out of O/D. The Dodge button was on the end of the column shifter. The Lincoln has a floor shifter and the button is on the console. If you have a towing button, that is probably your O/D button. I like others, take it out of O/D when climbing hills and when I get to the summit I put it back in and drive with the O/D on the descent as well as on the flat sections.

RE: Tow vehicle@#!!!!

Do you have an overdrive button? If so do you turn the overdrive off when going up hills? Is your coolant the correct mixture? Check your radiator hoses and make sure they haven't collapsed inside the hose. Does it happen at all outside temperatures or just when it is hot? Do you try and maintain the same speed going up hills as on the flats or do you let your van settle in at a lower climbing speed? I agree with others that you need a transmission cooler.

RE: Heartland Edge M22

I looked at the M22. I liked the size but didn't need the bunk beds. I thought the M21 was too short for us. If they made a 26ft TT without the BB I probably would have bought it. I liked the full paint option and wish other brands would add that on their trailers.

RE: Shopping for a new trailer

I just purchased a 2010 Heartland trailer. Heartland is now selling 2011 models so it was considered last years model. The dealer had it at 28% off MSRP. We ended getting it for 40% off. We gave them an out the door price we were willing to pay. Our sales tax rate in No. Calif. is 9.75% so I didn't want to offer them a price and then pay another almost 10% tax plus license. They came down twice but we stood firm with the offer and they conceded. It is still a buyers market out there and there are plenty of dealers willing to deal. If they won't agree to your price, just walk and tell them you will go somewhere else. Try and find a California manufacture, the shipping charges are a lot cheaper than an Indiana made trailer. Have you looked at Tango TT's they are well built and made in California.

What manufactures are still using DURO tires? Obviously these tires are******and the trailer manufactures now know it. Are there any manufactures still playing Russian roulettte with your life and installing these time bombs on their trailers?

RE: Fulltiming, carpets & allergies

What in carpet are you allergic to. Most of todays carpets are made of synthetic yarn. Most do not use jute as the secondary backing. The sheet vinyl flooring used by the MH manufactures is of cheap quality. I like bamboo flooring but I doubt if Winnebago uses it in their coaches. If you stay away from wool carpet and if the carpet mill uses synthetic backing and you vacuum at least once a week I can't see why you couldn't use carpet in at least in the bedroom.

RE: Pleasure-way Purchase

So far we have been able to park the Roadtrek at our condo. While the "executive" looks at it everytime they go past it, there has been no request to have it removed.
With the Pleasureway, it was only in the parking spot for about 48 hours before I got a telephone call to remove it immediately.
Guess the Roadtrek is less offensive to those non RV types.
I bet it was the placement of the PW air conditioner that gave it away as a MH.

RE: How many tries to find the "right camper?

First take a look at your tow vehicle, are you going to use it or purchase a newer, bigger vehicle (more expensive). If you plan to use your current vehicle find out what the maximum weight and length you can tow. Once you know that, you can start looking for your TT.
I look for quality first within the towing guidelines. Then the floorplan. Picking a manufacture is something you will probably have to do by looking at their build quality. What is there warranty? One year? Two years? Three years? A longer factory warranty doesn't guarantee quality but I have found the better manufactures arn't affraid to give them to you. I would stay away from entry level models unless it's from a well known top of the line manufacture.
Do your homework and have an idea what manufactures and models you want to see. If possible try and see them at an RV show where they are all on the same site. Plan ahead, if you kids are nine or ten they probably arn't going to want to sleep in bunk beds in one or two years. Get them a tent. I am at a point where I want more conviences like electric awning, jacks, bigger tv, microwave oven. A walk around Queen bed is a must for me. Take your time it's a big purchase and you want to make sure your decision is the correct one.

RE: When buying tires online

So you buy a tire from an on-line tire store. Let's say you have a tire problem like tire seperation. Who's going to help you for a warranty replacement? Unless you are saving a couple of hundred dollars by purchasing on-line and I am including shipping, mounting, your time to jack up your trailer and take the tires down to have them mounted and balanced. I have looked into purchasing car tires on-line from a place like Tire Rack. When you take in all the extra charges that go with on-line purchasing, I found the cost to be close to the same and a better piece of mind by purchasing locally.

RE: Heartland North trail and Caliber Opinions? Owners?

I looked at the Caliber 265 RBS over the weekend. My TV is a 1/2 ton P/U and thought that model was a little too heavy for me to pull. That was the only model of Caliber that the dealer had in stock. The RBS has the bed slideout. I didn't like the fact that it didn't have any night stands on either side of the bed. The 265 RLS model does. The Caliber is an upscale North Trail and is painted. I also wasn't crazy about them using two different colors of cabinets. If they wanted to go upscale, I would have did what Beaver Coach used to do and that was use burlwood facing whether real or laminate. I like the North Trail line and my wife really likes the North Trail 24RBS. I really like the Evergreen Ever-lite line but I am going to have to wait about another six weeks to drive 400 miles to see one.

RE: Linoleum

I would go with bamboo flooring, looks like wood but much harder.
http://www.thebamboosite.com/bamboo-flooring.aspx
Sheet vinyl flooring as others have stated is not linoleum. Sheet vinyl comes in 6ft and 12ft widths, linoleum comes 6ft wide. If you use sheet vinyl you want to avoid seams at all costs. Most RV manufactures use Congoleum's Mobileflor. This is made for the mobile home and RV industry. It's a very low grade of sheet vinyl. Take a look at Mannington's CustomSpec which is a commercial grade of cushioned sheet vinyl.

RE: Advice on TT for a Silverado half ton truck

Tystevens here is my novel!
Today my husband and I looked at some more trailers and we liked Key stones Passport Ultra lite camper 290BH(weight 5134)a good weight for us and has 4 bunks in addition to a bedroom with tv entertainment center between that and the living room, two person bar for extra eating room. We liked keystones 300BH(weight 5484) weight being a little higher than my husband wants, but it had 2nd bedroom area with a second sofa and bunk overhead, Ushape table. Both units have a small pull out. One not on the lot was 2910BH with 36”deep slide but also a little over (weighing 5465). The layout of this one is probably my favorite in any camper. I like the sofa and table slide out more than the kitchen and sofaslideout, but would have to be ordered. We also liked the Jayco’s Jay feather ultra lite 28R(weighing 5,218) with small sofa pull out, 2nd double bed with bunk overhead and a bigger kitchen area than others, but not really any more storage when you considered it all together. We liked Forest Rivers Surveyor SP280(weighing 4142) also a good wight for us, and it had 3 bunks, outside kitchen and small slide out. I didn’t like the fact that it didn’t have the divider between the bed room and living area. We looked at Evergreens Everlite 31DS9(weight 5,498) Similar to keystones 300BH and Evergreens 32MKS (weighing 5,341) similar to the Jayco 28R. We looked at Keysrones Bullet and Rockwoods but on the lot they were either to small or to big. Looked at Starcraft and they had one similar to Jayco’s feather lite. Liked the look of Jaycos on the outside better and Starcrafts inside better. Does anyone have any history of the quality of one of these campers or all they all about the same.
All the salesman I talk to claim they have a camper and camp too. I don’t know if I believe that. Maybe at a show. A few of the salesman seem to question us on why we thought we couldn’t pull the Premier(we almost bought) and why I thought I would pack 1500lbs or more of cargo, what did I take(just needed a couple of outfits), and why did we take water in the camper?
Well we had really planned on buying the Premier , saw it again today and turned my head :>( So much that we had already taken everything out of ours(what a mess) but husband got the idea since we had unpacked why didn't we(me) go downstairs and weigh everything that I could and I did! :>)

Are you using plastic glasses, better yet paper or other throw away type same with plates, plastic utinsils? Are your pots and pans of light weight material? You are taking way too much clothing, your camping it's ok to wear the same shorts more than once or twice. Buy your food near the campground don't haul it a couple hundred miles. How much of the stuff you are bringing doesn't get used or used enough to warrant bringing it along? I could use half of what you use!
