RE: using #99 as an alternate to the five.

I would suggest you take I5 south to Stockton, then take Hwy 4 east to 99 this is Freeway all the way south to the JCT with I5. We winter in AZ and this is the rout we use. That being said the 395 rout is very nice if time is not an issue.

RE: California route 299

Many times, there are windy parts most are on the west side of Buckhorn about 20 miles west of Redding. The rout will take a good 3.5 hours or more to get from Redding to the Coast. However from your question I am not sure, 299 is the road you have in mind. You say 299 from Red Bluff to the coast, that is 36 and in no way should you tow or even take a 38 foot MH on this road.

RE: Opinions of Kaiser...

You get what you pay for. My sister-in-law had Kaizer, she got cancer and kaizer said they didn't know what kind our how to treat it so they did the normal Kemo and radiation. It was obvios it was n't working. Whwen we ask to reffer her her to a cancer center ther refused, There exact words were we don't like to refer out of network. IMHO they are not very good at out of normal situations. My sister-in-law died at 42. As I said you gey what you pay for.

Ich spreche Deutsch ein wenig, ein bisschen, nicht so sehr. Wurde über 45 Jahre her, seit ich einen Grund hatte, Deutsch zu sprechen haben In English: I speak English a little, a little bit, not so much. Has been over 45 years ago, since I had a reason, have English speaking Wow. So cool. Practise, practise. It has been so long that I would have a problem ordering Bitte ein Bier. good luck with your studies.

RE: When you consider all the books...

In the past 5 months I have read 4 great books, the first to were The Winds of War and War and Remembrance. They were like part 1 and 2 They would make great movie. The next 2 were Rise to rebellion and The Glorious Cause again like a part 1 and 2 and again they would make a good movie. My point is there are so many really good books out there that would make good movies why all the remakes of movies we have already seen? Most weren't that good the first time, example Conan the Barbarian. Just my humble opinion.

RE: Traveling South

As a rule weather is good that time of the year. However the later you wait the better your chances are to get poor weather. If you are planning to travel 101 all the way south I caution you that San Francisco will be a bear as 101 becomes a secondary street through SF starting as soon as you cross the Gold Gate bridge. Enjoy your trip and good luck. Oh by the way where in AZ and are you spending the winter. By the way in the Phoenix, Tucson and Yuma areas you are a Winter Visitor not a snow bird.

RE: I-5 to 101

If going north of SF I would stay on I5 until you get to 20 at Williams then cross over to 101. Why not skip all the traffic and in my humble opinion there isn't much to see between SF and Jct 101 and 20. All the good sites are north of that area.

RE: Whats with OWN Opra winfry Network

I suspect she is having the same problems that the major networks have, daytime TV is dying. For months they advertise Opra was leaving her daytime show so my expectations were something new would replace her. Not so, instead we get reruns The Best of Opra. Just how long will this go on?

RE: Sacramento to Phoenix

I have driven from Rogue River, Or. to Phoenix every winter for the past 6 years and I recommend you rethink the I5 over 99 rout. Most of 99 has been repaved over the past 6 years. as for all the towns you pass through remember this is a freeway all the way to Bakersfield. Then take 58 to needles then Ca.95 to Vidal Jct. then over to Parker, Az. (I think that is 72) then south to I10 at Quartzsite, Az. then smooth sailing to Phoenix. The best fuel prices in both states will be at exit 45/46 on I10. Go to the station on the north side of I10, not sure of the name but it is something like ZIP or close to it. Exit 45/46 is about 20 mile east of quartzsite. As previously mentioned check ahead for wind warnings. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

RE: Sales taxes in other states waived for non residents?

Indiana charges sale tax, no matter where you are from. I was going to order my 5ver from the Factory and was told if I took delivery in Indians I would have to pay their sale tax. That was a deal breaker. Interesting, since I've bought cars in WA and CA and didn't have to pay sales tax as long as it was not registered in their state; of course if you buy it used you may be able to (in some states) prove that sales tax was already paid on that vehicle and you should not have to pay again in the state you intend to register it in. But I wonder how much difference there would've been for delivery charge vs you taking delivery and paying the sales tax? If you had let the dealer in your state take delivery so you didn't have to pay tax you would've had to pay the delivery cost. At 6% almost $3000, then build in my cost to travel to Indiana and back and the idea just didn't make economical sense.
