RE: Ocean Lakes campsite question/request

I too would guess you would be fine. It seems that almost every site there is the same and last year, most all had larger rigs in them.
X2 on the golf cart. When we go next time, we'll either bring one or for sure rent one.
Impossible to drive anywhere there and we just had bikes last time. Is too big to bike ride around the park.

RE: Wisconsin Dells summer 2012

There is several nice campgrounds here. We like Stand rock. It is a little smaller and only a few minutes from town. It will take big rigs. Ours is about 40 feet and we get in fine.
They have a nice pool and stuff for the kids.
After a busy day in town, its nice to come back here and relax.

RE: Myrtle Beach Campground

Ocean lakes last July was awesome. Yes, busy but plenty of room for all. Hot, and lots of fun.
I think there are several that are nice.
At ocean lakes. Sites are mostly all the same. Just get as close as you can to the water. Remember, there are thousands of people here.

RE: Ford Diesels

I just got a 2011 F350 SRW. I don't even know the ratios but this thing has way more power than my previous duramax and gets way better MPG. I am a very happy camper.

RE: grove united memorial day soccer tourney, anyone?

Our u16 son is playing in the state cup that weekend in Appleton, WI.
We are going to Blaine again in July and Carmel, Indiana in April.
We have done several tournaments out of state that were big and have always found camping available. The only way to travel for soccer. Other families from our team now camp too and we usually draw most of the team back to visit at night.
Lots of fun.
Check woodalls site for campgrounds.

RE: DEF

I was concerned about the DEF thing. Even started looking at older trucks again without it. After research and performance shops that would sell me new exhaust and a tuner to fix the regen issues of the three, four year old trucks, I decided to go ahead and get the newer one.
In my opinion, I would need to get another 06 chev, 2003 early Ford, or Dodge with the 5.9 to get away from it. My 2011 I just got has a DEF tank and they say I should get around 3000 miles out of the tank that holds 5 gallons. Depending how I am using it. I guess we'll see how well it works. I drive too many miles to start having to rely on a refurbished 10 year old truck.
This 2011 Ford seems to be very nice. If you do your homework, you'll find good and bad about all the big three. Pick your poison I guess.

RE: Finally new truck

06 Chev was a great truck. But had some miles on it and wanted to upgrade some. Wanted to get a more all around truck. The 06 became just a camping truck. DW didn't like driving it with it's big hips. The truck, not her. lol
This new one, new to us anyway, has low miles and is a bit shorter too. I plan to use it more for work and probably get rid of my work van too.
The chev was a long bus that needed a field to turn around. Harder to drive daily.
Have not owned a new Ford since 1992. So a bit scary. Had GM and Dodge for my trucks since then.

RE: Finally new truck

Yes the owners manual for the 6.7 suggests using I think cetone???? or something like that. An additive anyway. For use if heavy towing, driving in winter, and several other reasons. I will stop at the Ford dealer next week and get what ever they suggest to get started. I really have no problem adding something if it will help the cause.
As far as a hitch, probably get some sort of manual slider. I have a companion now and like the way it works. Just not sure I want to chance a fixed hitch. Many do with no problems. But my luck is not too good that way. lol
I will need to remove the hitch often. I'm considering the under bed rails with the Reese slider but a ton of money. Not sure yet. Do have a couple months to research it and gain some info from all of you.

RE: Broken Silverado Tow Mirror ($700?)

I do not remember the exact price but our Chev had the bigger tow mirrors and was around $100 on E-Bay. Dealer wanted $600.00 at the time. It was electric, heated and had the turn signal in it. I would never pay the $700 they are tring to soak you for.
I tried fixing ours too and it never worked. Was a little pain in the butt to take the door apart. The only reason the have to take the inside panel off is to run the wire.

Finally new truck

Well, I finally made the decision to get a new truck. Picked it up yesterday.
With all the info here and on several sites, we opted to get a 2011 F350. It is a crew cab short box Lariat with the 6.7 motor/six speed.
Have not had a Ford in many years. Have had several GM trucks with Duramax / Allision.
Our last truck was a 06 Chev 1 ton DRW long box. So ya, I do have a little concern going to a SRW short box. Everyone says it should tow our Open Range fine. I guess we'll find out before long.
All the new features and interior layout is real nice in the ford. Not sure if I just needed a change, but wasn't as interested in another GM truck. After all the research this winter, I felt the new ford would be a better fit for us.
No pics yet but will get them up after.
Have to study the owners manual now. Lots to learn.

RE: Lets give Lippert frames a break

I'm not into bashing. I did have frame problems. I'll tell you exactly what I had.
Our 2006 Wildcat had the frame crack right near the pin box. The front of the Cat would go up and down as you drive down the road.
Our new Open Range had a seperation at the inside corner where the propane tanks are on many fivers.
Open Range fixed this the self. Welded and beefed up the frame. Now I here Montana similar frames have the same issue.
I'm glad many of you have not had an issue. But we have had two fivers and two frame problems. Both lippert. So before you accuse people of just spreading rumors, maybe you should know the details. I only give credit where credit is due. Be nice if they would step up there game.
All I'm saying.

RE: Open Range

We too have had some issues as we have with every unit we have owned, Open Range by far was the best to deal with. We are happy with ours and would probably buy another.

RE: Need help finding CG near Yellowstone

I 2nd for Rocky Mountain in Gardiner. Grizzly is nice but op is from Michigan. Coming from the east, we too stayed in Montana rather than driving around to the west entrance. We had one of the nicest sites there. We did book it in January.
Full hook up with cable.

RE: Upper Peninsula for First Timers

The UP is very nice. Above posts cover most of it. I would make the loop. Lots to see in Wisconsin on the way up and cross the big bridge and go through lower Michigan on the way back. Lots to see there.
I have to smile when I hear people call lake Michigan "coast".
No disrespect, but us northerners just call it a shore. Or a shoreline.
You will not be disappointed.
We are going to Colorado this year. We'll take over your spot there and you can take ours here.
Happy camping.

RE: Lets give Lippert frames a break

I didn't read all 14 pages. But I guess I could give them a break. After all, they gave me a break twice on two different campers.
I look at like one bad frame, shame on them. Now another on this 2011 unit, shame on me. Be tough to get me to buy another.

RE: A/C in Bedroom - Wall Mounted T-stat or No?

Our bedroom AC has a state on the wall. Too bad no one at OR was smart enough to move the stat away from the direct flow of the air.
So it never worked. I had to unscrew it and pull the wires out of the wall and wrap ir around the door into the bathroom just to use it.
Open Range took it in and put the stat in the hall next to the main one. I think this might work well. They didn't patch the wall where it was. They just replaced the wall. I was happy about that. Look forward to trying it now.
If i were to do it again, I would get a unit with a built in stat.
