RE: 2004 Dodge 2500 with 4884# of gravel in the bed *pics*

I believe the 4800#... I did something similar once (load of solid bricks stacked in the bed) of my '07 5.9l 2500 - about the 5k# as well! although I admit I 'cheated' with timbrens... but drove perfect the back roads I went home on (it wasn't far or highway)...

RE: gooseneck versus 5th wheel hitch

I'm glad I searched this before I asked the same question! Just got a 'newer' 2006 powerwagon that came with a B&W turnover GN hitch and was trying to figure out what everyone thought! Quite the can of worms! ;)

My guess is that you guys still wouldn't let him exceed his door sticker GVWR... :)

RE: Limited slip on Dodge?

I've never had a problem with any of my limited slips in my dodges (1/2 and 3/4 tons) over the last 15 yrs... but if you're worried about it just get a power wagon! Rear AND front lockers are the way to go! :)

How is it?

Not trying to stir the pot - but based on everything I've read here sway control is strongly recommended (friction at minimum, Reese DC or similar is better, and Hensley, ect is best)... On way thru Ohio and PA this week I passed 4 trucks (admittedly duallies) delivering trailers with NO sway control on any of them? (and only one had WD bars)... How is this safe? Besides the sway I'm sure they would all be well over the max non WD tongue weight limits...

RE: Power Wagon & Toy Hauler Tongue Weight Question

1200 lb hitch weight rating sounds pretty low - considering the number of HD trucks (with the same hitch) hauling equipment (loaders, skidders, backhoe's, ect) with the factory hitch and no WD... Or am I missing something?

RE: GM 8.1l/Allison - how many miles is too many?

Thanks for the input guys - appreciate the replies... And yes I'm looking for a few thousand miles a year vehicle, not a DD. I agree with checking out rest of truck as well and am aware of the other mechanical wear/tear and concerns just wasn't sure about the 8.1l engine. Thanks!

RE: Power Wagon & Toy Hauler Tongue Weight Question

Sorry - i don't believe the 1020 hitch capacity either.. Look at your cargo capacities and base it off those - should be 1400-1700 lbs range. Just make sure the hitch is up to the job as the above mentioned.

GM 8.1l/Allison - how many miles is too many?

Looking for a dedicated TV for my camper (sold the PW) and ran across a '04 Silverado 4x4 crew cab 2500HD... Just curious how many miles are too many for this? Particular truck has 180k and I'm thinking I should stay away but the price is attractive - thoughts?

RE: Sucker born every day

My guess/.02 - You'll be over GVWR (barely) and at/under GAWR and safer than 50% of the people you see on the road... Enjoy your camping! :)

RE: Power Wagon Tow Vehicle

I guess I'll speak up with my previous experience (Sold mine for now) - Great off roader, Capable tow vehicle with slightly lower cargo capacity than most "3/4" tons (thinking 1700lbs?) and ~10-12 MPG around town - Taking it easy on the Hwy can push 12-14 MPG... Towing is typical at 8-10MPG - So not much different than other 2500 series gassers.. If you're interested in learning more about them check out www.dodgetalk.com as they have a dediciated PW section.

I've also bought probably 8-10 sets of coopers with no issues and will continue to buy them... Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

RE: Swapping gears on a durango

I'll agree with the above - the 3.55's are fine for most ~27' and under 6k trailers and the 3.92's would be a waste of money with a hemi and 545 (IMHO)... I have also towed the same trailer with the expy's - personally didn't like the power of the 5.4l and size of the vehicle. Armada's are indeed another good choice, but I liked the Dodge look better... Just my $0.02. Anything bigger than 5-6k lbs loaded is in 3/4 ton SUV territory.

RE: '06 - '08 Durango - How to determine gear ratio?

Good luck - the 3.92's are hard to find... Mine had a Hemi w/ 3.55's and was no problem with a 6k trailer...
