RE: Ego Boost Engine

I couldn't pull the mountains in AZ with my V10. Lots of luck with that.

RE: Rockwood wheel bearing failures

Even defective bearing should last more than 2000 miles. Somebody doesn't know what they are doing. Wrong grease, bad seals, too tight or too loose. Get someone that knows what they are doing. I got a car with over 140,000 miles on it and wheel bearing have never been touched.

RE: Boat Rack with my 5er

I would be afraid that that linked product that JEBar mentioned US truck 5th wheel rack would hit the side of the trailer. I know it is darned close (truck and fifth wheel cap) Lota money too. I built a T bar (goal post) for my old truck and it worked fairly well, but the kayaks were so high and strapping them down got to be a project I did not want to do anymore. I ended up with a small trailer from Harbor Freight and made a couple bunks for the kayaks. On and off in a minute.I double tow now and find it so easy. I am at just 65 feet so legal in WI. I can watch them in a camera and the whole thing runs about #300. Cost for trailer and bunks around $225

RE: tank sensors as in black tank

If it's really important to you, scrap the junk that came with the camper. I did. I bought See Level. They use a self stick electronic on the tank. One for each tank. You do not have to rewire. Just use the old wires. I believe it to be accurate within a couple gallons. Cost around $240 maybe less. No worries anymore.I have 4 tanks plus battery.

RE: Stackable vs. combo washer dryer

We sold condensing dryers (non vented ) way back in the 50's. They used a spray of cold water to condense the steam.and the drain plugged up a lot because of lint. They didn't work that well then and I doubt they work any better now. In Yuma Az the water comes out of the ground around 100 degrees. Not going to work very well there. Heck, you could take a shower with having the water heater on.

RE: water dripping from generator exhaust

Do you have an inline gas filter. I would install one if you don't have it. Yes, I constantly had water in my Emerald and it came off the back tank of my Ford 350.I finally got mad and installed a 6 gal tank just for the genny. That way I could treat the genny with sta bil as needed and no more water in the tank. After I installed that tank I had no more problems. Those Onan carbs are not meant to be repaired. they want you to buy new. so it's cheaper to keep them clean.

RE: 12 volt lights dim and get brighter.

One year old batteries can be bad, so can one month old ones. Take the battery out. Charge it up to 12.8 S G. then take it to a place that can do a load test. I have 2 Interstate deep cycles. I charged them and took them to the interstate dist and they did a complete test for me. Nothing wrong. Suggested that the convertor wasn't charging right. (too small a charge). Verified what I thought all a long. I could not get batteries charged all day in what they put out at night. Camping at Yellowstone. No generator after 8 PM.

RE: CW Shipping = RIDICULOUS....customer service is even worse.

The cost of shipping (mail UPS FED EX) is just 1 small part of shipping fees. I can imagine when you were working you sat around for sometime during the day (non productive labor) then perhaps you had to hurry to do a job. Your employer paid you just the same. In shipping there is more than the box you get. it's bookeeping, people picking orders, payments for conveyors, building rent, lights heat, phone, webmaster, printing labels, and many more things. If you can buy it cheaper then do it. Not too long a time ago, someone stole my sewer hose. I got the Rino hose at Wal Mart for less that CW and no shipping. Look around and do your best at shopping.

RE: Is a voltage regulator needed?

Your A/C should not "burn out" because of low voltage. There is a Klixson to prevent that from happening. When voltage goes low, the motor will heat. When the motor heats too much, the Klixson will snap open and the compressor will shut off. When it cools it will snap shut and attempt to run the compressor again. Unfourtunatly this will continue forever if the power is bad. An autotransformer will help, but they are heavy, and slightly large. Better load management on everybodys part would help. No electric water heater elements, run refer on propane, no toast with breakfast etc.

RE: Bug netting for radiator grille

Not quite Love Bug season yet, but yes, a screen is nice. I got some window screen and just streched it across the grill and fastned it with clothes pins. just wipe off with hand. Watch the temp gauge for a while to see whaats happening. A screen can block as much as 50% air movement I understand.

RE: Use of Vented Tailgates

Myth busters said no gain with the vented tailgate. But I like my factory tailgate with Truxedo cover. When i'm not towing, nobody knows whats in my bed. Grocerys, generator, tools.etc. And mythbusters did say better milage with cover.

RE: flojet macerator pumps

Never use a wipe.took my sister and brother in law along and she used a wipe and flushed it down the toilet and plugged my pump. My septic tank guy saw them floating in my septic tank when he came to pump it out. He said never, ever flush a wipe. They will break down in a sewer system as they get carried along to the sewer plant but will screw up a septic tank. OTHER THAN THAT I love the pump. It takes hardly any time to empty the tank and i've come across a few places where the campsite drain is in the wrong spot and I would have to move to dump. So easy to just pump it.

RE: toll roads

Drove on the 407 in Ontario (by mistake) a pic was taken and about 2 months later I got a bill. Whoa, was that something, like 50 cents a mile. I sent them a check In US funds and they credited me something like .54 cents. and until I called them and said donate it to your favorite charity, they would have continued to send credit reminders. Silly. I told them I would not be using there road again, or for a long time anyway.

RE: Was not aware that RV factory workers paid piecemeal v. hourly

Why do you think most RV's are a piece of junk on wheels? Hurry up, there's another right behind this one. My unit had 17 things wrong with it. "Let the dealer take care of it" Thats the mentality of the manufactures. Is it piecework when you don't put in the hole for the manuel crank. who is responible when they don't connect a water line to the heater. Oh, it was right there, just not hooked up and on and on and on.

RE: ST vs LT tires

Please do. I'm interested if you can scrub off chunks of rubber during tight manuvering, like backing hard when the tires appear to just about roll off the rims. I never had that with the ST tires but because of all the info (bad or good) I switched to LT tires and tread has come off. Bad tire or misapplication?

RE: flourescent lights

Still will have some sort of "ballast". How do you think it gets from 12 volt to over 300 volts. Get a dvom (tester) and find out if you have voltage at the fixture. Could have bad switch bad ballast bad lamp wire loose at socket.

RE: Bonding a generator

Like the pics from renoman69 I too did just like that. I use a Honda 2000i and have a Progressive Dynamics 30 amp hard wired. It always was showing open ground and the plug with jumper fixed it right up. And you can remove it instantly if you wish. DO NOT add a jumper at the campers breaker box from ground to neutral.

RE: battery chargers

First thing i'd do if you have a cool area(basement, attached garage) is to put them there. They would like being cooler than warm. Harbor freight has a cheap float charger from $4.99/$9.99. (same charger, depends on which day). I have a couple. they work great.

RE: Making a ext. cord

You can probably buy a 25 ft 10/3 extension cord for what the ends will cost. I did. How many conductor is the #6. Would be overkill in most cases. What is the covering of the cable? Is it a cable or just wire. Some of that stuff is so stiff it is hard to coil up. After priceing the ends only you can make the final decision.
