RE: RV to the beach?

Mark We go to the beach often in out motorhome. Our favorite parks are...Padre Island National Seashore...Matagorda Nature Park...I.B.MaGee Beach Park in Port A...We also like Goliad State Park during market days, Goose Island State Park, and all the state parks on Hill Country rivers for kayaking. We place a large pan of water at the door to step in to remove sand from our feet, dogs too when on the beach. Allways take a BBQ pit just in case. Take mesh collection bags for beach treasures. When we get home I wash the motor home, clean the screens, vacume the storage bins, and use a lawn sprinkler pulled along under the MH to wash off salt/sand. Happy Camping, Larry

RE: Texas Route

Jane You can go North an I35 out of San Antonio to San Marcus and pick up Texas 21 to US 77 North just north of Giddings, then take 77 to US 79 North at Rockdale, then 79 to I20 just outside Shreveport La. These are all good roads. Lots of 4 lane and good 2 lane with wide shoulder all the way. This will take you through central and northeast Texas, lots to do and see so don't be afraid to take side trips when you see something that interests you. Larry

RE: Beltway 8-Houston

Charlie Google Sam Houston Tollway. I did and did not get an answer for the new northeast portion, but, loop 8 is the adjacent access road with all the stop lights and it is free. We travel the West and South portion and have seen signs advising EZtag only but there are still tool booths? I know this does not help but there has to be a way to get there. Larry

RE: "First Year Snowbird"

Mallard Take a look at the Texas Coastal Bend, Corpus Christi-Port Aransas-Rockport/Fulton area. There is more water and more fly fishing spots than you can fish in a year. May not be quite as warm as the valley but the beaches are open to everyone(unlike Fl.) and the Laguna Madre is full of Trout, Reds, and Flounder. The local kayak paddle trails are plentifull and easy fishing, I even saw a kayak on top of a golf cart in Port A on the way to the Bay. Come on down. Larry

RE: TX Gulf Coast March 2012

Falcon You had better make reservations. Most of the schools in Texas are off 3/12 thru 3/16. Hwy dept says Port A ferry is going to be slow 3/9 thru 3/19. A lot of winter Texans are already on the move and in the parks and we are seeing a lot of weekend traffic comming south on the weekends. Happy Travels, Larry

RE: 1995 Pace Arrow Coronado/ Baggage Door locks

I have been looking for the last 5 years with no luck. I make my own aluminum keepers( triangle metal piece), get the stock from Lowes, cut them out, drill the hole and file one side flat. If you ever find a place to get them, please let me know. Good Luck, Larry

RE: 1995 Pace Arrow Coronado 33'

Jim Sounds like you have a short in your shore power cord. Check it with a volt-ohm meter. Check your motorhome breakers, they are above the fridg, to make sure they are working properly and all wireing is attached tightly. Check the wireing and working of the 120/12v converter/bat charger, it is behind the screen vent under the cook stove. look at the relays in the box under the hood near the batteries, there is a wireing diagram on the inside cover. The lights and fans inside the motorhome are all 12 volt and operate from the house batteries so you must have the shut off switches in the on position. If you have three jacks, lift the front, single jack first, then the rear. You will want to put each down and clean and rub it with oil several times a year, you can also check the return springs while your there and check the fluid level in the pump under the hood. Get a bubble level to place near the drivers seat so you can see when the MH is level. All of the apliance manuals are available on the net, some are hard to find but it is fun and informative looking. PM me if you have questions. Larry

RE: Come on down, lots of room.

Pawatt We drove from Ingleside to Port Lavaca on Tx35 today. There were so many RVs headed South that we lost count. So their headed your way! Larry

RE: Inflatable Kayak users?

NCB You need to test drive before you buy. Any good sporting good/paddle store will have test models you can try before you buy. We started with a low cost inflatable and did not like it at all, the resule was lost $. We tried sit on top and decided we liked them, bought some cheep ones and again, lost $. Then we found out reputable businesses will let you try out before you buy. My DW has what she wants, stable, quick, lots of storage for sea shells picked up on barrier islands. I have what I want, light, quick, lots of extras for fishing, storage. Or you can get a double for both of you. You can get a rack and carry your kayaks on your toad. Hope you find what will make you happy. Larry

RE: Rockport Texas Article

Its not as nice as the article says. We actually have 2 and 3 car gridlock on the roads, you may have to wait a few min to get a seat at the Big Fisherman, the temp gets real cold, all the way down to the 40's at night in late Jan, and the fishing is so bad you can only catch about half the limit on Trout and Reds, and the area only came in second place on being birdy, and Walmart is crouded. LOL Larry

RE: Best route OKC to Kerrville, TX

from The City take I35 to I35W to Fort Worth, on the north side of FW take Loop 820 west to I30 West which will turn into I20 West, to New Salem where you go south on US 281 to (Burnet then 29 west to Llano to 16 south to Kerrville) or to Johnson City then West on 290 to Fredericksburg and south on 16 to Kerrville. If you go on to Waco just stay on I35W to I35 then take US84 West to Evant where you pick up US281 South. This route will take you through the Hill Countrys' scenic area on good roads with lots of places to stop and make the DW happy. Larry

RE: WANTED 55+ campground around Corpus Christi

There are hundreds to choose from. Come on down and take your time picking out what you want. I would suggest you look in Aransas Pass, Portland, Port Aransas, Ingleside, Rockport/Fulton along with Corpus Christi.

RE: South Texas Red Tide/Oyster Season Closure

The cold and rains have really helped kill the bacteria. The water is clearing up and looking like it should. The weatherman says we will have more rain this week thru Sat and then cooler weather for a while which will help. There is not enough bacteria left to cause sinus or eye irritation. My dog Daisy went swimming yesterday and coughed some but not as much as when red tide was at its highest level. Larry

RE: Grand Isle La. state park

Fishing and beachcombing are only OK, water is mississippi brown, not much going on in Grand Isle, its a long way down there. Don't know what part of Texas you are from but you may want to try the Coastal Bend and South Padre areas of the Texas Gulf Coast. Better fishing in the Laguna Madre, Bays, and surf. Water is much clearer, air is much warmer this time of year, lots of things to do and see near the beaches, lots of RV parks with piers or boat ramps. Happy Travels, Larry

RE: South Texas Red Tide/Oyster Season Closure

We still have the red tide but it is slowly going away. We had a good rain a week ago and more forecasted this weekend. The temperature was COLD last week. These two events make red tide disapear. Hopefully it will be gone by the time you get here. Larry

RE: south texas winterizing

brandonrv As you know, the only time you will have a problem is when a strong norther comes thru. I keep the RV pluged into power to make sure the batteries maintain a charge, I emty the water tanks, When freeze is forecast I place an electric heater set on lowest setting in RV be sure to remove next day and open a vent to get the moisture out. I have never had a problem with freezing but mold and mildue will attack if you are not carefull. Good Luck Larry

RE: Trip to Victoria, TX

LJ Try Goliad State Park, lots of Texas history about 30 min west of Victoria. Coleto Creek Park & Reservoir, lots of trees, great fishing, about 15 min west of Victoria. You may also want to look in Port Lavaca, on Matagorda Bay, or in Rockport/Fulton, on Aransas Bay. Happy Travels, Larry

RE: I-10 E at Houston to I-45

Trashhauler Hwy 6 thru Houston is stop and go, lots of traffic and many stoplights. I 10 West of town has just been widended and the traffic is not too bad unless you are there at rush hour. The exit to I 45 is well marked and easy to do. Sam Houston Tollway is not any quicker and the exits and tollbooths are somewhat confusing. IMHO time your transit during low traffic, take I 10 to I 45, take your time and don't let the traffic intimidate you. Happy travels, Larry

RE: ? TX GULF PARK, BOAT & FISHING INFO ?

dcmac Depth of your boat is similar to my wellcraft. Most bays have depth of 8 to 12 feet but there are lots of shallows too. Gulf ICW is 12 feet average all the way from New Orleans to Brownsville. You will need to buy charts of where you are so you know where the shallow places are. NOAA charts of the ICW show a complete depth picture of all the bays and Top Spot fishing maps do a pretty good job also plus showing the best spots to fish and all the marinas and launching ramps. Anyone who tells you they have never gone aground in the bays has not motored or sailed the bays. You will have no problem taking your deep v short distances offshore when there is light wind. I fish the oil platforms that are nearby but you have to get used to the boats motion and make sure your rig will get you home safely. Larry
