RE: Banking while on the road

Our local bank is great for this. Online bill pay, auto matic deposit, and when we need cash, Wal Mart.

RE: Silverado 1500 in Colorado ?

I've done Monarch Pass with my 08 GMC, 5.3/3.73 with tt package, pulling about 6500 lbs. Going west bound I was running about 25 in second gear, trying not to mash the pedal to the floor. Transmission temp is what you really got to watch.
Just for comparison, following year, with same trailer and similar load, but with a Dodge diesel, 45 mph in fifth gear. Sharp curves was the limiting factor.

RE: Idaho Tote

The question on these that I've pondered is how much weight is carried by the trailer versus the wheels, ratio wise.

RE: B&W Patriot vs. PullRite Super 5th Non Slider

I have the Patriot hitch and a Reese Revolution pin box (same as sidewinder, only factory installed). The only problem I had was learning that pin height is critical for smooth locking. We've had this setup for about 6 months and five thousand miles, but no compaints so far.
When you assemble the hitch, you do have about 3 inches of fore and aft adjustability, along with about 4 inches of up and down. If you do decide to get the sidewinder, I recommend you buy the optional hitch specific locking plate versus using the supplied universal plate.

RE: Round Bars vs Trunnion Bars?

Depends where your hitch is mounted on the trailer frame. If the connecter is on top, round bar style gives you better bar clearance. If mounted on bottom, then the trunion is preffered for ground clearance.

RE: Leaving a 5'er or trailer in Az storage over the summer

We're spending a couple weeks in Q'site now, and in the park we're staying in, there are several folks who leave their units here year around. I was talking to one gentleman who said the annual rent was not that much different from the cost of fuel to drag it back and forth to Oregon. Giving it some serious thought myself.

RE: Frame Bent ... HELP -- Need Advice

Probably caused by twisting the turn too tight. Looks to be a pretty simple fix to me. Is it just the one side, or both? Cut the hanger off, heat and bend the frame back into shape, weld some 1x2" angle on both sides, then reattach the hanger. Probably best to do both sides even if only one is bad.
If you know a good welder, probably get it done for maybe $500 or less.

RE: 2 door fifth wheel

We have a Rockwood Signature UL8285 with a mid kitchen, and have two doors. Front door by the steps, and another in back for the living room. No cost option for the rear door or big window.

RE: Gettin' Ready to Go

we're leaving from Alabama, and are not in any hurry. We probably won't hit somewhere in Az until sometime close to the end of the month. We haven't even figured out where we're headed yet.

RE: Towing laws in Alabama

Somebody above posted a link to Ala Code 32. There is nothinjg in the books for or against recreational double towing, where they write the tickets is over lenght. There is enough vaugeness that most troopers will not bother you as long as you're "cool". The DOT boys are a different matter. My daughter works for the Ala State Troopers, and we've had this discussion many times, with no clead winner.
Reciprocity applies only to liscense and registration, has nothing to do with traffic laws.

RE: Therostat upgrade to digital Honeywell RTH111 /RTH221

When we installed our Honeywell thermo, we checked the difference in the fan speeds from high to low. Seeing as how there was very little difference, we just hooked the high speed up, and didn't bother with the low speed or installing a seperate switch.
No complaints so far.

RE: Tongue jack

Good tongue jacks of about 3500 lbs can be had from e-bay for about $100 from several sources. Three bolts and a fused hot wire to the battery takes about 15 minutes to swap.

RE: What is your MPG?

When we were pulling our 7k TT with the GM gasser, we run about 10. With the new Ram diesel it went to 12. Traded the tt for a 9.5k fw, and we dropped down to 11.
