RE: Where are you workkamping this summer?

Rockledge Park on beautiful Grapevine Lake as independent contractors for the City of Grapevine, TX. They are great to work for with a great work schedule to boot. Really know how to treat their geezers.

RE: What are our chances?????????????

Same with us. In the past two years we applied for and were accepted for four positions, two of which we accepted. Last year we were state park volunteers. This year we are working for a Texas city as independent contractors and getting paid plus a FHU for doing what we gave away last year. maybe we were just in the right places at the right time?

RE: Lake Lavon, Tx. Avalon park gate job.

The hours are not the best. Carefully read the bid requirements. Both persons are required to be in the gatehouse almost the entire time. We are in a similar situation at another Dallas area day use park. Our work shift is for seven consecutive days but the day is split with two couples with each couple working about six hours. We are then off for seven consecutive days. The hours and the amount of days off was the reason we did not bid OLWF's jobs.

RE: flojet macerator pumps

This is a true story. Last June CW had one of their usual online "sales". I just glanced at the ad like normal until my eyes bugged out. I saw the Flojet macerator pump on sale for $54! Since I was online just as the ad email arrived I jumped online and ordered the Flojet. My wife was very certain the pump would never be shipped for that price. Sure enough, CW changed the ad quickly to $229 but not until after my order had been confirmed. I did get an update that the pump was on back order for two months. Anyway about two weeks after placing the order the pump arrived as advertised. So, for $54 I got a brand new Flojet macerator that is residing in my 5th wheel.
Sorry for being off topic.

RE: Gas mileage question

Tow a 35' Crossroads Cruiser, empty weight (who tows empty?)8,200 lbs, normal weight about 10,000 lbs. I tow with a 2009 Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab, long bed Duramax. Normally when towing I average about 11 mpg. I always drive at 62 -63 mph. Without the RV I get about 16 around town and 19 on the highway.

RE: Work Camping Question

We volunteered at a Texas State Park last year for seven months. Before we were accepted they ran a background check on the two of us. We did handle large amounts of cash.

Dealer invoice

Saw a link to this in this morning's RV Travel Newsletter: www.seedealercost.com. It has invoice pricing for a bunch of RV manufacturers and models. Finally we have something close to kbb.com and edmunds.com to protect us from getting hosed on an RV deal!

RE: 2012 or 2006

I have a 2009 Silverado 2500HD D/A, long bed. The standard fuel tank for the long bed is 36 gallons.
$60,000? A very nice new 2012 2500HD D/A LT can be had for around $45,000. Why pay $1,800 for an in dash nav when you can get a big rig/RV specific Garmin with lifetime traffic and map updates for around $300?

RE: RV Outlets

Bought our RV from RV Wholesalers in August, 2010. I have taken my RV for warranty repairs to a local dealer that sells Crossroads RV products but not the Cruiser line. No problems, no questions. When I had an a/c issue I went to a Dometic service place. Dometic furnished a new a/c and Crossroads paid the installation labor fee.
When we were shopping the local dealer wanted $7,000 more and was rude. He told me that if I buy from an Internet dealer I would not get warranty service. B.S. and more b.s.! The buying experience at RVW was open and above board. We ordered with the options we liked and five weeks later it was at RVW's dealership in Lakeview, OH. We drove up from San Antonio in our then brand new truck and brought it home. It was a mini-vacation and a learning experience for us newbies at the time. I'd buy from them again in a minute.

RE: New old stock

The 2013's will be out in about another eight weeks. Something sold new in 2010 for $40k should be selling for about $24k new today. If I remember correctly, the 12 year roof warranty would only be good for 10 years or less at this point.

RE: Hanging Blueboy on Ladder

Mine is the 42 gallon model and I do the same as edatlanta. My truck is a long bed and there is sufficient room for the Blue Boy sitting sideways between the hitch and tailgate.

RE: Weight of new furniture

The backs of the La Z Boy pieces come off permitting the pieces to come through the door. We carefully measured the door opening, space in the slide and depth so we could be certain the new pieces would work. We have even considered the extra room we will need for the pieces to fully recline.
The existing sofa was assembled in four individual pieces then screwed together and then to the floor. My son and I have already loosened one of the pieces so we know this for a fact. The existing sofa is simply and cheaply constructed and has no comfort whatsoever.

RE: First Real long trip

We did the trip from San Antonio, TX to Disneyworld in 2010. My wife and I left with the RV in mid morning and stopped in Louisiana and set up the RV. My son, his wife and our two grandchildren, ages 5 and 2 at the time, left in the afternoon in their minivan when school let out. They met us that evening at dinner time. From that point until arriving at DW he followed me. We stopped a second night in FL before arriving the next afternoon at Fort Wilderness. On the way back it was the same thing except they followed us until we left Beaumont, TX after spending the night there. I much prefer sleeping in my own bed however, if the cost was less, we would have flown. If you do the math it is easy to see the RV advantage, even with the high cost of diesel.

Weight of new furniture

We have ordered a La Z Boy reclining love seat plus two reclining chairs. These three pieces are going into out living area slide. I have to assume that the new furniture weighs a couple of hundred pounds. Should I be concerned about this weight affecting the slide mechanism? The new furniture is replacing a 129" long original equipment sectional sofa that is basically a wooden frame with plywood sheeting covered by upholstery. It is light and very cheap.

RE: Extended Warranty....again

I bought the Xtra Ride warranty from wholesalewarranties.net in California. I really shopped for the best coverage and price. No one could beat this company's price. I paid $1,297 for the best plan with the $50 deductible, five years. Have not used it yet. I was and still am very cautious about third party warranties having been burned years ago by Warranty Gold. WG was a leading third party extended warranty company for cars. They went belly up about nine or ten years ago. Just this year they settled for pennies on the dollar, i.e. $92 back on a $1,400 warranty.
Good Sam's coverage and price was not even close to Xtra Ride. I think my sales person's name is Daniel.
