RE: Inverter for a Pioneer 18T6

If the "breathing machine" is a C-PAP they virtually all will work on 12v with a adapter. I use a Resperonics System One Auto and have installed a power plug (cigarette lighter) plug on the side of our bed frame. I found a always hot 12v power source under the bed I tapped into for power. Contact cpap.com they have 12v adapters for most c-pap machines that have a power plug on them. They cost about $25.00.
Jim
Same thoughts here. I too use a Respironics machine. I installed a 12 volt outlet beside my side of the bed specifically for my CPAP machine. It's way quieter than the inverter which had a noisy fan that ran continuously. It is also a more efficient way to power your CPAP as you're not converting DC to AC and then back to DC.

RE: Tow /haul button >>

I use my tow/haul when towing just to get the load going from a stop. Once I am up to highway speeds, I turn it off. If the transmission starts searching on hills, I turn it back on. My mileage is much better using this technique instead of leaving it on all the time. My RPM's go way down when it is turned off.
When driving in town and not hooked up to my fiver, I do not use it. When hooked up in town, I do use it.
I hope this helps.
I use mine in the same way, however my rpm ultimately ends up the same either way when I'm up to speed. In t/h mode, it just takes longer to get there.

RE: Who reads Trailer life mag?

We subscribe to Trailer Life, Camping Life and Motorhome. In my opinion, all three of them have become little more than catalogs with the occasional good article. I have also seen the same article published in more than one of the magazines. I'm not sure I'll renew any of them when our subscriptions run out. JMHO.

RE: Overwhelmed by Backroads Mapbook -- need advice

Found it. It figures though. They took a good, usable site and changed it. It's not as good as before, but...

RE: Overwhelmed by Backroads Mapbook -- need advice

The provincial govt. of BC has a website that shows all/most/a whole lot of the forestry/recreation sites. I don't remember the address, but a bit of Googling should find it.

RE: Roughly when does insect season end in Northern BC?

It usually depends on when the first cold nights/frost hits. The little critters don't seem to like the cold. So, that could be anywhere between July and October.
I find that by mid August, things can be pretty good, assuming that it hasn't been a wet summer.

RE: Cpap machine and dry camping

My cpap machine will draw my batteries (2 6 volts) down about halfway if I run it with the humidifier. Much less juice is used when the humidifier is off.
** FWIW; I just checked and my machine pulls 2.5 amps when running, and 4 amps when running with the humidifier on.

RE: Cleaning your CPAP mask

I wash mine every once in a while. Definitely not daily and usually not weekly. When I do wash it, I use a good shot of dish soap and hot water. I dry the outside with a towel and let the inside of the mask and hose air dry. Using distilled water also makes a difference.

RE: BC Backwoods: bring chicken wire for the porcupines?!

Huh??? http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-confused005.gif
In the last 20 some odd years of camping in central to northern B.C., including Prince George to Stewart, I have never had a problem with a porcupine. I've only seen a few live ones and they seem to take off pretty quick when they see people. We don't even see many of them squashed on the highway any more.
I wouldn't spend any time worrying about it up here. I can't speak for anywhere else though.

Just get a Beware of Dog sign. Then when you get to camp put out a huge dog bowl and chain. :B
Knock on wood we have never had a problem.

RE: "newbie" mistakes

Whilst backing up, I learned that a trailer can jackknife in that millisecond that you take your eyes off of the mirror. I stll have the dent on the rear corner panel where the truck and trailer made a new connection. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-angry048.gif
I back up a lot slower now.

RE: availability of rv campgrounds

We've never had any problem finding sites to stop in up here. However, we're quite happy to pull off and stay at rest areas, river crossings, forestry sites and etc.. I do agree with making reservations when going into Whitehorse though. Even the Walmart lot seems to fill up rather quickly.

RE: Mosquito Repellent Safe for Infants

If the infant is going to be in a playpen, stroller or seat cover it with netting.
Battery operated fans also help as the bugs dont like any wind.
There are wipes that have a small amount of bug dope on them.

RE: Diesel Engine Exhaust Brake

I really like the system on our 2007 Duramax. Hit the tow button at the top of the hill, apply a bit of brake and let the engine do its thing. It holds ours back on most hills.
I do not use my tow package on the highway except when in hilly areas. In the city, it's great for stopping the tranny from continually shifting up and down.

RE: Satellite TV

We used the following linky thingy to wire in our satellite. As you can see, you can use your cablevision jack on the side of the trailer to get the satellite signal into the trailer. A quick modification to the back of the first splitter, the one that has the antenna booster, is all it takes. It took me only a few minutes to do this modification and now we can easily switch between tv signal and satellite signal. Hope this'll give you an idea. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-think007.gif

RE: leveling blocks

I love my Lynx levelers. We've been using them for years. Two sets and I've never run short. I believe the yellow ones are the same. Like others have said, they're light, they're clean, they take up little space and you don't get slivvers.

Can you make it in a coffee cup or measuring cup?
How much does the cake rise?
Looks like a good thing to do with the kids, more cake than the Easy Bake Oven :B
