RE: Liquid Drano

Why? Is there a blockage?
My plumber told me that all that off the shelf stuff is not all that great to begin with. Of course, he told me this after I had run a couple of bottles, with no successful removal of the blockage, down the drain in the house. The stinky stuff he brought sure worked though!!

RE: British Columbia tolls

The subject of this thread is NOT toll roads anywhere but in BC! You want to talk about other jurisdictions (political discussions are no-no!) start a new thread!
Ouch! I was actually finding some of the comments quite interesting. I've never considered/thought about/worried about travelling through Toll areas before. I think the original post got some people thinking and wanting to share their experiences. Thanks Seamutt!!
How many comments can be made about one toll bridge in BC????

RE: British Columbia tolls

It will be a toll bridge, everyone using the bridge will be expected to pay.
There will be a kiosk before and after the bridge to allow those that dont want to register a credit card the ability to pay on the spot.
For more info take a look at this newspaper clipping.Tolls on Port Mann Bridge

RE: Traveling with no reservations . . . .

We've never needed reservations out in the boondocks. As for reservations at parks and citygrounds, we've never made them either.

RE: Battery Issues when boondocking..........

Now for the $64K, marriage-saving question..................
I get another battery (which I've been thinking about anyway) and I want/need to use my trusty CPAP, how do I handle that?
Check to see if you can run your CPAP on 12 volt. You may be able to buy an adapter. I put a 12 volt outlet by the bed specifically for my machine. If I don't run the humidifier, my battery use is a lot less than with the humidifier on. With the humidifier, it would run my single 12 volt battery down to about half a charge. I now have a pair of six volts, and no problem.
**I tried the inverter route, but couldn't stand the sound of the fan on the inverter that went up and down as the CPAP machine ran.

RE: What do you use your outdoor shower for?

Water fights?
We've actually used ours for quick showers.
It did come in really handy after the dog rolled around in bear dung!

RE: Wi-Fi Signal Amplifier How Good Are They?

My son is telling me to go down to Best Buy (or some store like that), get one of those little usb plug in wireless antennas. He thinks that by putting it onto a long usb cable, I should get a better signal. As he is the little guru around here, I'll give it a try next time I have the time to try it.
Has anyone else tried this? You might save me a few minutes and a few bucks.

RE: Carrying Spare Parts - Alaska Bound

Sorry for your loss.
Extra springs? In my eyes, a waste of space. The roads that we have travelled on there and back and to the south of there in central BC are not nearly as bad as some folks would have you believe. Drive to the road conditions and you should be just fine.
Make sure your trailer is in good shape before you leave, give it a quick once over every few days and use the space you saved by not bringing extra springs for something that you enjoy. Have a great trip!!

RE: Dangers in the Alaska Waters

We've been kayaking in lakes and on the inside waters for many years and we're still around. Common sense is the key to a safe trip. If the weather looks crappy, don't go. If you don't have the necessary safety equipment, don't go. If the water looks too fast or too rough, don't go. If the water looks too busy, don't go. Don't overestimate your abilities, and be prepared.
Two years ago, I had a very large Loon take offence to me paddling too close to his family. I didn't realize how large a wingspan they had until he came straight at me screaming and appearing to run across the water several times. While on Meziadan Lake, I came across a grizzly tearing apart a beaver lodge. He was a little perturbed by my presence, but he settled down as I backed away. Believe it or not, we have met black bears and moose swimming across lakes. We met a bunch of very inquisitive sea otters on Ressurection Bay a few years back.
Enjoy your trip.

Warranty doesn't matter here. I'm sure he'll find a good lawyer that will prove that it was someone else's fault.

RE: Weight police in BC

In BC, there are a number of weigh stations that all vehicles over a certain weight must stop at, including RV's and pickup trucks.
Okay. I give up. I cannot find this written anywhere.
I can find info that says that it is illegal to drive an overloaded vehicle, but I'd sure like to know where I have to stop.

RE: Weight police in BC

Like I said in another thread, I've never been stopped. The fellow working at the scales, when asked about what I could carry, told me something along the lines of, "We know what your truck can carry. Unless you look overloaded, we won't bother you."

RE: Boondocking in Canada

In central to northern BC, we've had no problem finding spots to pull off the road for the night. We've used rest areas, parking lots, pullouts by bridges, etc.. In our little town, we regularly see people parking near the arena, in the parking lot by the gas station and hotel, in the parking lot by the lake, near the public library (this gets you free WIFI) and even on the street in front of our house. This happens even when the local Provincial Park IS open. From what I've seen, this seems to happen in many of the smaller towns.
Forestry campsites can be found all over the place as well. Here's a link to an interactive map showing the sites. It may take a bit of clicking and cursing, but I've found most of the info to be pretty good. It's sometimes a bit of hit and miss as to whether or not it works though.
Interactive Map
****For some reason, when the map opens, it seems to go to the last location I looked at. In order to reset it to show the province, click on the little black province shape in the top left corner. When the map opens, every little red triangle shows a rec site.
Have a great trip.

RE: BC tire repair

I always use Kal Tire and buy all of my tires from them because they seem to have stores everywhere. Like Les Schwab, they seem to run on the premise that by fixing your flat for free, they'll gain a new customer. At least that's been my experience; neither place has ever charged me for repairing a flat tire.
On another note, I wouldn't expect that you will have more flats up here than you would down south. Relax and enjoy the trip.

RE: Transporting extra gasoline for a generator

My little Honda sits inside the door of the trailer or in the bathtub. It has never caused a smell in the trailer unless it was put inside without being allowed to cool. As the generator uses only a small amount of fuel, I only carry a one gallon container. It happily sits on the battery box behind the propane tanks on the front of the trailer. Bungee cords hold it in place.

RE: 12 volt batteries hooked up parallel

I often use a set of jumper cables to attach the battery for my electric motor to the other batteries on the trailer. The solar keeps all of them topped up. If it's raining, the generator can top them up.
