RE: Are slides worth it?

A little birdie told me that if i wanted ANY resale value, that I should have a slide. Everyone wants a slide out. Newer TT's have "improved" their functionality, from what i have read, however there are always problems/maintenance headaches. I took my TT back within a month of purchase because the bottom "seal" wasnt high enough to stop air flow when deployed (you could see LOTS of daylight). They ordered a taller seal and installed. Thanks for reminding me i need to do the maintenance on my slideout!

RE: Battery Box Strap Sun Rot

@RayJayco - good point, however the pic is misleading, the whole sunny side up of the strap was deteriorated, both straps. You still could be right tho. I have a solar panel that keeps em charged, so im not taking them in an out, rarely even pop the top off to look at them. I just picked up some distilled water, which is why i even noticed the straps! I'm using the army web belt for now. (blog link a couple posts back) I just returned from a trip up the mountain where it rained and hailed. It soaked the web belt pretty good, but when the sun broke, looked to dry really quickly. The gold buckle seems to be holding pretty firmly. Getting soaked like that is probably not going to be good in the long run. (maybe i should get some spray water repellant) I do like the stainless ideas, it might take a Rocket Scientist to solve the problem! :) Even this small project, its fun learning the many variations, thank you all for your ideas!

RE: FUN GROUP Pow Wow @ California Hot Springs May 27- 30, 2011

...took up residence in a 28' trailer on the Hot Springs Ranger Station where he was employed as a junior forester by the USFS...This one? Snapped this early Sunday morning http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/m573/adamroof/111.jpg height=480 width=640 @tahiti16 - just a little snow! http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/m573/adamroof/118.jpg height=480 width=640 (Alison, Jeanette, and George, with Meagan in the background throwing snow at George) Ill try to write up a blog post with more pictures this week. It was great to meet the FUN GROUP! The weather wasnt as predicted, but as John says, thats what makes the memories stick. The pool was amazing and the staff very friendly. A day later, and we already can't wait until next year.

RE: FUN GROUP Pow Wow @ California Hot Springs May 27- 30, 2011

ok thanks! We are guessing leaving town a bit before noon, gas up in Bakersfield, possibly visit an in-law for lunch while there, and arrive around 5 or 6.

RE: Leveling & Stabalizing

Also... for leveling... iPhone app "RVCompanion Free", free app with built in leveler. I found a sweet spot on top of my battery box i can lay my iPhone that helps me level front to back, side to side. I dont have too much bounce with a 22' TT, but AFTER i level, then ill drop stabs on 2 lynx blocks, and double check the rear of the TT with the iPhone app. Mostly use 2 blocks so i dont have to crank them down so far. If the rear screen door doesnt jam, ive done it rather evenly. The app is no different than a couple bubble levels, but it tells you "Drop Hitch 1 inch...", "Raise Left Axle 2 inches" so thats kind of handy after a long pull. The app doesnt let you store more than a couple of items in a checklist before asking you to buy full version, but just the leveler itself is worth the time installing.

RE: Does anyone have a Wall Up?

hmmm... it looks like it bends in 3rds, maybe an idea for my outdoor shower? Is does say weather resistant right? Can it withstand water temperature up to 75 degrees? Ill anchor it to the side of the TT incase winds increase to 16 mph.

RE: FUN GROUP Pow Wow @ California Hot Springs May 27- 30, 2011

Hey! ...and a wake up! What times is everyone departing? Are you taking the 65 north out of Bakersfield or are you staying on the 99 as far north as "Sierra Ave" past Delano? Weather looks nice, chilly mornings, but should be pefect during the day.

RE: Battery Box Strap Sun Rot

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply, been a while until i was able to get back to it. I am trying blogging, seems Word 2007 (& up) can publish directly to a blog! The reply had a bunch of photos, so i went the blog route... it was so easy, i'll try to add more this summer! Blog on strap options I didnt go the cable route because i didnt get the size even close on length after crimping loops at each end (must improve my measuring skills), but they made great bike lock cables that we needed! This is my first attempt at a "full" length blog, go easy on my structure, but content tips would be appreciated! Thanks for all your help in getting this strapped up!

RE: Battery Box Strap Sun Rot

@rolling without the strap responses - thats really good to know too! it does seem that the tabs are pretty tight locking, but i wouldnt want the battery jumping out especially since the concrete on our local highways was poured by the marx brothers. thanks opnspaces, n fordlover! @ole man dan - i couldnt find a local surplus store, but when i come across one, ill be sure to nab a few, im sure it has more uses than one! thanks

RE: Battery Box Strap Sun Rot

...Sort of makes at least me feel like a fool for trying to give you input that apparantly you weren't even going to consider since it seems you already knew what you intended to do and really weren't looking for ideas. LarryI truely did not intend that, especially to you, i have thoroughly read your posts and responses for about a year now and respect every word. I apologize. I came across the "webbing" website from everyones responses, and I did move quickly since it was only a $5 experiment (including shipping). I actually went to Home Depot after work (to go the vinyl wire route)(Lowe's is a bit out of the way) and they will even crimp a loop on each end for me, but i didnt have the exact actual length, so I will go back tomorrow morning and pick it up. We are heading out to Morro Bay tomorrow afternoon and I need something NOW, can't wait for shipping! I'll change to the straps when they arrive, if even at all! I want to say $2/foot at HD, that could have been a yard or just the cut charge i dont remember (ill edit tomorrow) So I am heeding the advice of everyone here, and I did not mean to end it with "Oh well" to stop the awesome advice from rolling in nor negate anyones 2 cents.

RE: Battery Box Strap Sun Rot

@Larry - i guess it doesnt need to be a strap huh? some vinyl covered wire and a quick connect caribiner would be easy. Oh well, i have 10 feet of poly webbing on its way... ill post results.

RE: Battery Box Strap Sun Rot

Bungee cord question!!! Where do you get good ones????? All the ones I've ever gotten at Harbor Freight crack up within minutes. Is there a better place?Well anywhere else you get them, they are supplied by Harbor Freight right? I live here in the hometown of Harbor Freight headquarters (well they are moving to Calabasas eventually) I'm not sure i'd trust their straps to hold anything. I do go there habitually tho :( its a disease! But "where do you get good ones" is a very good question!

RE: Battery Box Strap Sun Rot

You can buy replacement straps for a couple of dollars at many stores like WM so mine now last a long time since they are not exposed to the elements, but even exposed they will still last 3 to 5 years. ON EDIT WOW I missed the fact yours were only a year old and in this case I would consider going to Lowes and get some vinyl covered wire and fittings to make loops in the ends and attach them with a small padlock or even a clip or carabiner. LarryI noticed an earlier mention of a locking mechanism, but tried to remove that idea from my thoughts. That just brings it back into "Keeping honest people honest". "They" could cut the wire just as easy if they want the batteries right? :( I am surprised they only lasted a year (new TT from dealer March '10) I am thinking of adding a couple more solar panels and batteries this year, so maybe i'll build in some "insecurity" into the battery box. Thanks for your input, very helpful!

RE: Battery Box Strap Sun Rot

Thanks! I didn't know "Webbing" was the keyword I should search for, found alot of options, 10 feet from the link i posted above for polypropylene webbing should do the trick. $5 to my door. I already have a buttoner and riveter, i'll check out some stainless buttons at a store. I take it everyone has replaced their straps and not rolled without one eh?

RE: Storing Water - Long Term

hmmm, good point. I always thought of my TT as the escape hatch too if we lose our home in a quake, but never thot of the water. I guess keeping it full, but flushing through every couple months would work ya? Im not sure i'd like iodine in it... just knowing it was there... i've had ice cubes with chlorine at a CG... yeckkkk. Ill look into that vitamin C too.

RE: Battery Box Strap Sun Rot

They can be bought at any auto parts or even wal-mart….I went to O'Reilys, they had the boxes, but no straps. But even if they did, why would I get the same ones as they would just rot in the sun again? I am kind of more interested in the weatherability of other options like a leather belt material, would that be more "rot" resistant? Or would i find myself rubbing them with waterproofer? The current straps are only a year old :( I avoid our local Wal-Mart like they all have swine flu. :E

RE: Battery Box Strap Sun Rot

... Army surplus store...Thats a great idea, never thought of that I was thinking rubber bungee cords too, but i kind of like the strap idea for looks, not that it really matters there... I guess a thrift shop would be viable too for belts... matching aligator belts haha.

Battery Box Strap Sun Rot

Hey all, Went to go check the batterys pre-trip and the strap just crumbled in my fingers! Its not that critical of a strap because the plastic tabs are functional at this point. Has anyone had this problem and what did you replace it with? I'm thinking leather straps or maybe just more heavy duty / outdoor fabric strap? Has anyone lost a lid by not having it strapped? (note the top part of the strap where you would go to undo the strap) http://www.eagleflats.com/img/forums/batteryboxstrap.jpg height=480 width=640
