Hensley Question

I'm looking for a used Hensley or Propride. However there are a lot more used Hensleys on the market. I have a couple questions. 1. How many different spring bar ratings are there? Is there any way to tell the rating from looking at them? Are the bars specific to Hensley or will something else work? 2. Anyone modified their own hitch bar if I find one that is not correct? I hate to buy a hitch then spend as much as a new one making it work. Thanks

RE: ?'s on storing toy hauler near the ocean

Don't do it. We bought a brand new TH in 2007. A relative bought one a month or two before. He lives about two blocks from the ocean here in Florida, we live a about 2-3 miles from it. He keeps his at his father's house in a barn. But he does take it to his house occasionally. IT Has probably spent six months total at his house. His is a total rust bucket while mine which stays outside is fine. His fiberglass looks better but all his metal is junk. You can't rinse or clean the salt off. It's in the air and gets everywhere. He had to replace all his ramp hinges, they were seized. The frame around his rear door is almost rusted through. Not to mention what the water heater, frame, landing gear and such looks like. Forgot to mention his 2008? maybe newer truck has holes rusted in the under side bed rails. There is a campground not far from here right on the ocean. I would like to stay there but I wouldn't subject my truck or trailer to that for even one night.

Victory Lane Question

May be getting a Victory Lane TT toy hauler. The front panel has lots of delamination. No signs of any damage inside The side walls are flat and appear to be okay. The front is not a molded nose cap but flat panel that is wrapped/curved. Is the construction of that front panel Filon over luan? Anyone done this repair? Any advice? Thanks

RE: street motorcycle hauling

... Ithat protrude up through the Condor chock's matching holes, and slots that allow the D-ring to protrude through the flat stock. When the tie downs are hooked to the D-rings there is no way anything is going anywhere. With the bikes removed, and the Condors lifted off the flat stock, the flat stock simply lifts off the D-rings and can be moved out of the way. You're back to a completely flat, smooth floor. Hope this is clear. That is what I figured from looking at the pictures. I need to start looking for a good chock, and some E-track. I can access the underside in the forward portion of the garage, so plan to reinforce the tie downs by adding some flat stock under the bolts I will use. Your tie downs are probably bolted through the cross members under the camper. If so there is no reason to reinforce them. I know mine are very secure, they don't move/bend/distort at all even when pulled very tight. If you plan to mount as FJ12ryder and I have done there is no need for E-track. Matter of fact it defeats the purpose.

RE: street motorcycle hauling

Did you reinforce from the underside the D rings that are in the floor? I have a new to me Raptor that I have not used yet and will put a HD Electra Glide in it. 900+ pounds so it HAS to be secure and I have read that the factory D rings are a weak link. My underside is accessible but haven't investigated it well yet. I am also considering the "E track" to use along the sides for those straps. Wish I had a Condor and Harbor Freight to put side by side to compare. I have a Fuzion which is the same thing as the Raptor. My D rings are rock solid. I sometimes tie down a dune buggy with them. If you are worried you could look underneath. I have the Condor in the picture above. I bought it off of Craigslist for $100. If not I probably wouldn't have it. On the other end of the setup I have a Harbor Freight chock. The Bike Pro copy. I don't like it at all. But that's OK as I am down to one bike at present. We put the same setup in my wife's cousin's toy hauler. He has two of the HF chocks that are more like the Condor. They seem to be fine. However the quality is nowhere the same as the Condor, but neither is the price. Cycle Gear has a nice looking chock that they run on sale often for $69.99. If I was in the market I would probably buy one. If I couldn't find another used Condor. BTW I see Condors on Craigslist all the time.

RE: street motorcycle hauling

Thanks, My original plan was to drill holes that would allow me to hook the strap hooks through the angle and the chock. There would be no need for the bolts. The hooks just aren't big enough.

RE: street motorcycle hauling

Thanks for sharing your setup Yellermanx, looks perfect for what I would like. A couple of questions though, after you get it in place the straps hook through the d-rings? And what are the eye bolts for? Thanks again The eye bolts hold the chock to the angle. The nuts are only finger tight. If you look close at the threaded part you can see a hole. I put a hairpin type clip in there to keep the nuts from coming off. I don't believe the nuts are even needed as the straps pull it all tight when the bike is in it. I put one set of straps to the eye bolts and another set to the d-rings. Just over cautious I guess.

RE: street motorcycle hauling

Yellermanx, I got the idea for my setup from looking at yours. Thanks. I did realize that. I have seen that you always credit me for it too. Thanks. I was just trying to show another option for doing the same thing. Angle aluminum and a different way of attaching to it.

RE: street motorcycle hauling

I just bought these straps to hang on tight around the bars and frame without worrying about the hooks. Loop straps That's what I use around the lower triple clamp. Some bikes don't have a lot of options. Be careful, some bikes can't be tied using the handlebars. Think rubber mounted for one. I used a Canyon Dancer loosely on my old bike just as a backup. Won't fit current bike because of brush guards.

RE: street motorcycle hauling

Just bought a toy hauler almost brand new. Put my bike in back and tied it down with 4 straps so tight it was like it was welded to the floor. 40 miles later I stopped at a rest area and checked on it. It was over on it's side with the handle bar going through the wall... I have always used a wheel chock and never had any problems but I just bought this away from home and couldn't put one in till I got home. It now has a harbor freight locking wheel chock. Unless you want to destroy your bike and toy hauler a locking wheel chock is the only way to go with 4 straps. I agree. I towed mine a couple times with just a chock. Tied down well. However it would still move. I had to keep tightening and adjusting it even with many straps. The bottom wants to walk out from under the bike. I got lucky and never dropped it. The chock needs to be stationary. Once in the stationary chock I put two sets of straps on the front and then one or two straps on the back semi snug to keep it from bouncing side to side. Only need one set on front but I feel better with two. I have towed dirt bikes all over the place without a chock and never had a problem. However they are light and you can really collapse the suspension and the knobbies grip pretty good too. The Condor chock is very nice. Just happened to be the first person to see it on Craigslist for a change. :B I don't like drilling holes in things. Here's mine. http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z57/Woobershaw/101_5666.jpg width=640 http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z57/Woobershaw/101_5665.jpg width=640

RE: Ax Men, and Ram

The Gold Rush boys seem to like their Fords too.

RE: Is the PS 6.0l really that bad???

People have always loved to hate Fords. No matter what, if it is a Ford they hate it. My 05 and camping buddie's 03 have both been great. (The only two I have first hand knowledge of). If all the internet stories were true you would see them all along the interstates. I can't recall ever seeing one.

RE: Attic Vent Caps, Where to Get?

Thanks for the links. Here I thought they were attic vents and all along they are mushroom vents. I was searching for the wrong thing. :R Thanks again!

Attic Vent Caps, Where to Get?

I have an 08 Keystone Fuzion. It has two attic vents on top. Not the plumbing vents. The attic vents have round caps that are about 5" diameter. They screws off and have a 5/16 threaded hole in the bottom. The sun has gotten to them. I have searched and can't find them anywhere. I can't find any brand name on them. Will try Keystone as last resort. Any ideas where to get them? Thanks

RE: POLL: WOULD YOU BUY THE SAME TRUCK AGAIN

I have one of those 05 F250s with a 6.0 PSD. You know, the ones that won't make it out of the driveway. Can you believe I actually had to put batteries in it? Put me down as a yes.

RE: Transmission or ????

As we climb a hill, all of a sudden as I am accelerating, it sounds like the engine begins to rev up, it maintains speed, but doesn't gain more speed, the rpm needle doesn't move beyond what it is already at, and creates the sound of revving up in neutral. I understand your reluctance to believe it, but it is the fan. Mine sounds like a 747 trying to take off under the hood when the fan kicks in.

RE: Those of you with factory trailer brake controler(GM & Ford)

I had a P3 for about three years and was never happy with it. Have a Max Brake now and am completely satisfied. It works flawlessly, it stops like the trailer is one with the truck. Do a search on Max Brake and pay attention to what the people with first hand experience say about them. Worth every penny, really.

RE: 2005 F350 Powerstroke tow questions

I pull a 12K+ fiver with my 05 6.0 with 3.73s. I feel it would pull it 100 mph easily if I let it go on flat land. I know it will do 85 if not paying attention. :Z I try to stay around 70 and get about 10 mpg. It does slow down considerably on long steep grades. My boost generally stays in the low 20s on grades. I see no reason to try to kill it. I just let it build up to speed when pulling onto interstates. If you put your foot in it and it doesn't go any faster there is no need to. Just let it eat.

RV Market?

Posting in toy hauler section because that is what I have and is what I am really interested in. Wife and I went to a local rv show yesterday. We do this as entertainment. One of the salesmen was saying how great the rv market is right now. Is this just salesman blowing smoke or is it true? My guess is bs. Wondering because we are considering downsizing and wondering if now is a good time to sell. If you know, how is the toy hauler market? Thanks
