RE: 2004 Monaco Knight radiator

I did ours by myself, not to bad a job. I got the radiator here, good, fast service, very helpful finding the right one. and a pretty good price for a quality radiator, copper core w/metal tanks. I drained my system into old food service 5 gal plastic jugs, I did it over a big plastic deep walled pan I got at a farm supply. And I used a engine crane to lift the radiator in and out.
Good Luck!

RE: Hwy 550 from Durango to Ouray, Colorado

You forget hairpin turns. And asphalt falling off the edge... to the bottom.
That said it's one of the most beautiful roads I have been on... but that was in a SUV.
There were semi trucks on it. But I wouldn't like it with something big.
And thats all I have to say about that!
If you take it report back here!

RE: Killer Dowel Pin in 5.9 12v

I installed the tab last summer and was glad I did as my pin was over halfway out.:E
I had to do a radiator replacement anyway and while I was in there I fixed that too. I wouldn't want to do it without removing the radiator because it would be very hard to get to, but it could be done.
Not every engine has a problem but it could be a catastrophic failure.
One outcome is it just falls into the oil pan and is never heard from again.
A second outcome is it hits the gears and is punched out the side of the front cover. Oil loss and some down time replacing the cover.
The third result is the BIG ONE, it jams in the gears, stops the valve train while the engine is still turning and makes a big mess out of the engine. New engine time.
Cummins is still in denial about this problem but I have witnessed it first hand.
Its not a insufficient press fit issue, what they did when they drilled the cover they ran the finish size all the way through. If they had just stopped short of going all the way through they would have had a positive stop automatically built in. In fact I think that is what they did on all the later ones.
I guess the question is "do you feel lucky"?
Good luck!

RE: CUMMINS C 8.3 DP- JUST TOLD I NEED A NEW HEAD/HELP?

I put a head on my 5.9 Cummins about 10,000 miles ago, same problem, crack in the head at the #1 exhaust port. I got my replacement head from Odessa Cylinder Head in Clearwater, FL 727-299-9058. No affiliation, just a happy customer. It's a Chinese made head but my studies showed it to be a better product than Cummins as they beefed up the head in strategic places. It came with valves installed and a gasket set for about $600.00, I did the work myself, and yes it's a big, hard, messy job. $10,000 seams a little steep. PM me If you want more info.

RE: Desperatly need help with slide out issue

Just humor me. Check and charge the battery, sometimes new batterys have problems and often when new they are not fully charged, just a thought...

RE: Gray Tank Smell

There is another vent valve by the bathroom sink. Replace that one too! I also found a broken vent pipe up near the roof, behind a panel in a cabinet in the bathroom.

RE: Hey 89A from Sedona to Jerome, AZ

I just went through Jerome last week with our 37ft MH. I don't want to do it again! I was going up on my way to Prescott, I really wouldn't want to take 89A through Jerome going down. It was doable going up but we lucked out without to much traffic. It seemed as if the whole road was only 10ft wide in places (our MH is 8.5ft wide), lots of hairpin turns. My buddy said "watch your mirror" and when I looked the mirror was less than 1" from a brick wall! He said "tourist were jumping out of the way"! But we made it! As we left Jerome a bigger MH with a tag axel coming the other way was stoped at the only place to turn around. He un-hooked his toad, had his wife drive that and turned around and followed us up towards Prescott.

RE: TOTAL NEWBIES, looking for assistance intelligently

I would to help but we are awfully far away, (the Keys are one of our favorite places, and we hope to get down there this summer for some lobster diving!) We do have a nice home on a lake in Wisconsin with room for 1 extra rig for a visit, if you get by this way. We have made some good friends here on RV.net and are always looking to meet more. Drop me a PM if you're interested in talking!

RE: sewer hookup Question

So you know, the reason to not leave the black tank open is to always have some liquid in there. If you don't the "solids" will build up and not flush away. You end up with the dreaded pyramid, and you don't want that. Use plenty of water when flushing, in fact it's best to add a couple of gallons of water before any use. We keep ours wet and don't use any special chemicals and have not had any problems or odors.
Good luck and have fun!

RE: Would you still call it a toad?

Toad = two on a dollie or towed on a dollie.
Frog = four rolling on ground.
How about
Fish = four in-side house?
Cat = compact alternate transportation?
Kitten = kar in the tiny enough nook?
I have to go with Cat!
Bob - Baby on board
I like it!

RE: Bringing generator across the border

If you won it, bought it in Canada and plan to keep it, there should not be an issue
I'm confused too! You said you wanted to buy a generator, and wondered about extra cost to take it across the border, nothing about winning it. I'm sorry I can't help you, but to n7bsn, this picture is for you!

RE: home dump station ?

I plumbed through the house with a 3/4" pipe to a connection to our waste system that goes to our septic. Add a portable macerator to the MH and its real easy dumping, just a short hose from the macerator to the external fitting I put on the house. I don't do it to often as I don't want to over load our septic system, but it sure is handy! I set up 50amps, cable TV and a water feed to the same corner of the house and now I have FHU's.

RE: Screen door mod

I used vinyl window material for boat covers, got it locally from a canvas place. It cuts with a scissors and I attached it with Velcro. It rolls up easily for storage when you don't need it.
