RE: Hook-up question

To your first question, so far all the electricial outlets, sewage, and water connections have been the same, USA & Canada. Just in different location. Some parks put them in the rear, some more to the center. We just carry extra water and sewage hose. We also carry the 50 amp/30 amp adapter. Some places will not have a 50 amp site avaliable and we have to use the 30 amp. Secong question concerning the wind, if it doesn't feel good don't drive park or stay parked. I have pulled over in 20-25 mph gust. The wind was hitting me from the side and it was terrible. But we have also driven in much worse, but the winds was head on.

RE: Pros and Cons of double towing

check this web site out, it list all 50 states requirements. For those states that do not allow - stay away, spend your money elsewhere. This is not a goverment site, so you would neet to confirm. http://www.wideworldrv.com/tsl/tsl.php

RE: Pros and Cons of double towing

In Louisiana its legal, so long as you do not exceed the allowable length. In 2004 and 2005 I towed a 30' 5'ver and a 14' trailer with our motor cycles in it to the Yellowstone and back and never had to unhook the 14' trailer. Planned the trip and reserved pull through sites. Called the Louisiana Department of Transportation. Got the latest on the highway codes. I did not check every state I went through but was never stopped or questioned. We even had a conversation with two highway patrolmen in Kansas City. Saying all this it was a little nerve racking, and this lead to us purchasing the MH so we would not have to tow double. This next weekend I am planning a fishing trip to Toledo Bend, and could tow the truck and the boat with the MH, but I will let the wife tow the boat.

RE: What's your rig(+toad) and what's your MPG?

I have a 2008- 40' with a 360 hp Cummins, we tow a 2011 Chev Colorado 4x4. Average speed is 60 on the two lanes, and 65-68 on the interstates. I have driven it towing the truck, towing the 14'x 7' trailer w/motorcycle inside, and not towing at all. Gas mileage has been about the same, 6.5 to 8 mpg. I've never noticed any differance. I also had a 2006, 34' gas Ford V-10 6.5 -7 mpg towing the trailer mentioned above or not towing.

RE: Pet Business - Venting

At home I had a guy that would let his dog use my garden all the time and no matter what you said he still did it. One day I use the garden hose not on the dog but on the guy. He was wet from head to toes and never did it again because I told I would do it again and again tell he learned to stop it. That's too funny. :B I don't blame you for that. It sounds as if he got what he deserved.

RE: Pet Business - Venting

I am a dog owner, when Sid takes care of his business I clean up after him. I do not allow him to go into other camp sites. I walk him on the road going to the dog walk area. There has been the time or two where he stops and takes care of his business on the side of the road on the edge of someone else's camp spot. I clean it up ASAP, like in right then. I try to not allow him to do this but once in awhile he just can not wait. But I don't like it and I can see where someone else would not like it either. But I have never allowed him to get close to others campers-cars of other belongings.

RE: Natchez Trace Highway, Nashville to Tupelo

Tupelo is as far north as we've been. There is a good car museum and Elvis' boyhood home in Tupelo. Meriwether Lewis, of Lewis & Clark was killed on the Trace close to the Tenn-Alabama line. Go on the internet and look up Natchez Trace. Sorry I cann't offer more help. But someone one here will have some good advise.

RE: Natchez trace trail

I haven't been on the trace since 2003. After reading these post. We will make a trip in late March from Natchez to the Meriwether Lewis area. Also in 2003 there was a good car museum in Tupelo, MS. it should be better now as they had just opened it in 03.

RE: Toilet Backs Up?

I had a similar problem with my Fleetwood Fiesta. My rig was new so I had no prior owner to worry about. If you remove the hopper(not hard at all)it'll give you a much better idea of the problem your facing. I always thought my soil pipe had a 90 in to the tank, upon removing the hopper I could see it was a 45 into the tank and I could clearly see into the tank.Mine was not a build up problem it was the fact that the hopper was not dropping enough water into pipe.I put a different model Thetford(Bravura)on ,that seemed to drop whatever was in the bowl much faster.End of my problems. If yours is a buidup problem try filling tank with water and addCalgon(water softener)and leave it sit, the longer the better than take rig for a bumpy ride stopping and starting often Good Luck Calgon suggestion worked for me once. I now use it occasionally in both gray and black tanks as a preventitive to future build ups. removing the toilet sounds like "solid" advice. no pun intended:B

RE: Shoutout to Freightliner

X2 Freightliner replaced my fan clutch on mine twice. First time they said the MH had the old style clutch fan, second time it over heated they said maybe they put on another old style ctutch fan, so they ordered another one and confirmed the PN that this fan was the new style. Friendly techs to talk with and very helpful. No problem at all and all work was warranty.

RE: Mount Rushmore

Ken I may have missed someone recommending the KOA close to Rushmore, about 5 miles. We've stayed there each time we have visted the area. Also stayed at the KOA in Custer, and in the Badlands. As stated in earlier post the Badlands are a must see. We had our motor cycle with us and riding the badlands and Needles Hwy was awesome. You'll enjoy just as much in your Jeep, or more. But I don't remember any roads we rode on the bike, that was not breath taking. That part of the USA is truly spectacular. I can see why the native Americans loved it there so much. The other campgrounds mentioned looked great, but they were all full when we were there. May should be a great time to visit hope y'all have a good time, only wish I was going also.

RE: Hankook tires

1. If I have slits of any kind in the sidewalls those tires would be history. 2. GY tires would be the second reason for getting new rubber as they have a somewhat bad reputation for inferior quality. 3. We have Hankooks on all our personal vehicles and put (6) new 19.5 Hankooks on our MH in 2010 at a cost of $1700+ M&B. Been very pleased with the ride and wear in all instances. 4. You could join FMCA, http://www.fmca.com/ for about $45 per year and in addition to a lot of benefits, they have a program going on now for members where you can purchase Michelin tires for you rv at participating dealers and save around $100 per tire. A win win situatiation for everyone. If you do decide to join, tell them member #402879 steered you their way.;) I'll tell them you sent me also

RE: Any advise for our first trip with our Motor Home

LennyH Welcome to the adventure of MH camping. You have already gotten some good advice here and will get plenty more. Camp in the drive way a night or two, for sure make list. I have a packing list to check off, this is more for the wife, pre travel check off list as already said to be sure no jacks are down and the electric cord and water, & sewage hose are unhooked and stored. I would plan on the first couple of useages in the drive and then to a close camp ground, and with just the wife. This will allow you to get acquainted with your MH and its systems. Then when you do bring the grand children everyone will enjoy the trip more. You will be able to spend more time with them and not figureing out how to work this and that on your MH. I have only had mine since 2006 and learn something new and a better way to do it almost every time we use it. This fourm has been very useful and plenty of friendly advise. As for taking the grand kids, with mine as long as we're in a park he can ride his bike and play with other children and there is water for smiming. This is a must. Happy Camping

RE: Chev Colorado pickup

The Colorado is a featherweight compared to a Silverado. My 2009 4x4 exetnded cab weighs just over 6200 lbs. That is scale weight. Moisheh I think that's the very issue, there are too few lighter small pick-ups around for many of us who really have no longer any need for a full size truck. I would like something that weighs under 5,000-lbs and can fit in underground parking lots that my Dodge Ram cannot do everywhere (at least not in downtown Montreal). ... Eric Comparing the 1500 Silverado to the Colorado is like comparing apples to oranges. There are too few small trucks offered today for towing behind a MH. For this reason it makes them high in their asking price. When I was searching for a small truck I could tow behind the MH (without modifications). The Colorado was the best choice for me. The others I looked at I would need to modify and was not willing to do that. There was only one Colorado within 75 miles of my home. The next one was 400 miles and the next was 600 miles. On all of these the dealers were not too giving on their prices, but did work with me better than I expected. I have only had it for 10 months. I work a 35 day on/off schedule and the truck is parked when I am gone and only used when we tow behind the MH. But so far we are well pleased with its performance. This is the first GM product I have owned in 30 years. I am a Ford man so my main ride is a Ford diesel- F250 4x4.

RE: Chev Colorado pickup

I posted the same question last year before I purchased mine. Here are some of the replies: Wille, I've been towing my 2005 4x4 GMC Canyon for 5 years fulltime. You're correct, its a very convenient toad, put the 4x4 transfer case in Neutral, shut it off, take the key out and away you go. No stopping, no speed limit, no battery drain, no mileage recorded while towing. I've had abolutely no problems with mine, but like any vehicle or RV, I read about others that have had issues. I perfer using a pickup as toad for the extra storage space in the bed. The disadvantage is, its not real comfortable for passengers in the back seat, if you frequently haul around more than 1 passenger. Willie, Please do some extensive reading about these vehicles in general. They have gotten absolutely terrible owner comments. I tow 2005 Canyon. Bought it new. Best toad I have ever owned. ________________________________________ I tow a 2006 GMC Canyon 4wd Crewcab. It has been a great tow as well as an every day drive. Go for it. ________________________________________ Mike & Linda Finnerty with Buddy (GS-Lab mix) A few years back I thought I would buy one. Took it for a test drive and it remined me of a Chevette. Road noise and that idiotic 5 cyl engine make it one of the worst vehicles on the road. Look at the sales figures and you will quickly see that you should look elsewhere. Reliability of a Vega. And I am a GM guy!! Moisheh I have towed a 2004 GMC Canyon, 4x4, offroad with auto trans for the past 3 years. It has been trouble free & has 68k on it now. Oh, 20+ mpg with the 5 cylinder engine. I had a 96 Ford Ranger before & it was a good toad also.

RE: Chev Colorado pickup

We have a 2011 Colorado 4x4 - auto transmission. Love it for towing behind the MH. Just follow the directions in the owners manual, plug and play. We had a 2006 Jeep Wrangler, needed a pick up and the Colorado was the choice. I am telling you this because it is simpler to tow and more "Tow Frindly" than the Jeep.

RE: walmart

You can never tell, these MH that have been in the parking lot for so long may be working on maintenance, instalation of new equipment.... Or not. I have stayed about twice in a Wal Mart lot, for about 4-6 hrs. Then got on my way. I had rather stop over at a road side rest area. Easier on and off. No permission required. And wife can not remember something she forgot that she just can not do with out, and I spent a large amount of my rest time shopping at wal mart.
