RE: What is your "guilty pleasure"?

Being completely isolated! Yeah, I enjoy getting off the beaten path, where seeing more than two vehicles in the course of the day is considered a busy day...
Funny story - Just a couple weeks ago I was meeting up with my bro' for 5 days of riding at Morrow County ORV park. As is my custom, I left a couple of days early so I could find a nice quiet place to camp... No people, no noise, just me and nature. Well, I had scouted this FS road last year (sorta), so I decided I would just take it and see where it goes. Well, it went from a nice gravel road, to a single lane gravel, to a double track road, to a dirt path to a FS barbed wire gate and ended in a peaceful little meadow, perfect! So, after adding a couple of new stripes down the side of my trailer I am all set for a couple of days of quiet bliss. Only what do I hear? Road Noise! Yeah, the danged road bent back around I was less than 50yd from the main road...

RE: New Building Adventure...

Wow, sounds like a great plan.
You know, I am only 47 so I have a few years to go... But, from reading this forum I have already started planning for the future of rv'ing! I am 5yrs from paying off my little house... And the old plan was to sell it and buy something new. It is not big and not on a big lot, but I do live in a wonderful small town (pop 1245) and am not planning on moving elsewhere. I have decided that my little house on my little lot with my little shop will be just perfect when I retire. Cheap to own (low taxes), easy to maintain and will make a great "base camp" for when I am not out traveling.

RE: Have come to some conclusions...

Having never had an experience like yours, I have no right to express an opinion. Only you can decide what's right for your family at this time. I'm sure you will find your way! Just enjoy your life, however you choose to do it.
Well put!

RE: Some people really are clueless about CO dangers

Wow, you know I have never even considered that before. This is a great thread, as I have really learned something new. I mean, I don't have a generator and primarily boondock and get along just fine without... Although I have an extension cord I made to plug into my truck, just a charge wire, for emergencies so to speak (and have used it when batteries failed, 17degrees at night). My bro' has a nice Honda EU2000i and has a nice HD extension cord, so he can put out a ways, but for noise reasons only... I will remember this now and advise him of the same.

RE: RV Extended Warranty - Is it Worth It?

Here's a couple of pieces of advise from somebody who was in the biz for 24 yrs.
A) As stated, they are essentially a legal inusrance contract which means they are very specific about what they cover and how they work - it is all spelled out, so take time to read it. But, I recommend that if you read anything it's the Whats NOT covered section and the exceptions.
B) Yes, if you have the disposable income, then you may be able to "self-insure", however the costs have increased so much over the years, this may not be as viable as it used to be.
C) And this is RV specific. If you were not aware, but each manufacturer also offers extended warranties as well and for much less. Typical refrigerators can get extension for around $50. Look in the owners manual. Same for Heat, AC, Axles, Tires, etc... So, if you are really savy, you can extend the warranty directly from the mfg for a fraction of the cost.

RE: Buying second trailer (avoiding the delamination blues)

I hate to say it, but it's a roll of the dice... Albeight the odds are in our favor, but every manufacturer puts out a lemon or two.
Now, my trailer is a small trailer (17') Layton, built by Skyline. It had several problems out of the box, but since 2005 has been essentially trouble free (other than self inflicted injuries). And, I will say this, even though my TT had issues, my local dealer and Skyline took great care of me... I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a Skyline product.
Good luck

RE: Picking up our new TT

First, Congratulations! And welcome aboard.
If you do a search you will find lots and lots of information. And some folks even have multi-page check lists. It's amazing.
My advise, is to just take your time, bring a pad and paper to take notes and don't let them rush you. Just have them show how everything works, then do it yourself while they are there. Be sure to look everything over and if you find any problems, note them down and schedule them to be fixed if minor and if major, do not accept the unit until it's right. And don't be afraid to ask questions. Also, be sure to include proper hitching procedures and practice once with them, especially if you have a weight distributing hitch.
Enjoy and Have Fun!

RE: About the worst I've seen

So, just a quick reminder. Most campgrounds are in the great outdoors. Do you know what else is in the great outdoors? Well, I will tell you... They're called animals and guess what? Yup, they poop and pee just like you and mee! And let me tell you, they are not too particular about just where... Suffice it to say, I would bet each every one of you has walked through, sat on and probably even laid down on a choice piece of grass that an animal has used for his toilet. So, really... Relax already. I mean you are more likely to catch something nasty from food undercooked in your low-wattage rv microwave then from the neighbors poor hose etiquette.
