RE: Open Range

Two years on my 2011 393RLS. It's OK. But just OK. Have had some small issues that I have taken care of myself. And some larger issues that should have never left the factory, in my opinion. The floor was unsupported in one area about 3X6 and real spongy. What I found was the factory had pulled down the burlap cover. Pulled out the insulation. And fabricated some wood braces and screwed them to the under-flooring for support. Then duct taped up the burlap covering, without replacing the insulation. That duct tape, that had no way of sticking. So when I pulled down the coro-plast underbelly, the whole big wad of unstuck duct tape fell down. What a mess. I called and reported this to the factory, and the customer service guy checked with the production manager. And was told, "Yep...that's the way we fix 'em." General wiring and plumbing very sloppy. Nice looking rig. Nicely appointed with nice features. As well constructed as most other RV's. No worse...but sadly...no better. If yours has been in the shop for 7 months, you also have a dealer problem.

RE: running air conditioner while towing

Running your A/C in the truck should not be a problem. The compressor in your A/C doesn't require that much horse power to run. So it should not put much stress on your engine.

RE: Converter/Slide Out?

Maybe you don't need a new converter. Maybe the sub-converter that controls the battery charging, has blown a fuse or two. If that is the case the battery will not charge. And if your battery is too low, you won't have enough power to run your slide out. The battery charge sub-converter is usually a separate electrical box. About half the size of a loaf of bread. Has fuses on the outside of the case. Trace the wires from the converter to find it. I agree with those that recommend you charge the battery first and try the slide. You already know your battery is not getting charged from the converter. Before I bought a new converter, I'd make sure the battery charge component has no blown fuses.

RE: converter/charger problem

Check the fuses/breakers on your converter before you replace it. There may also be a "battery control center" in the mix, which has relays and fuses as well. Jim I agree with the battery control center idea. Trace the wires from the converter to find that box. Probably one or two fuses that are bad on that component. Mine were two 40A fuses. Solved my problem.

RE: My finials finally came in!

So....Mama's happy. And your feeling ripped off. And is she telling you??? "Look, Pat...Get over it. All that matters is that I'm happy. And if I am ever NOT happy, I am going to make everyone around me miserable, too. Until you make me happy again." You paid $78.00 for 24 little plastic finials. All to keep her happy. And that should keep you happy, that she's happy. Cause she'll make you miserable if she doesn't have her little plastic finials. What will it be next? Not that it is any of my business, but now I am feeling that you certainly have been ripped off. And that doesn't make me happy.:B But on the serious side...really you only paid a little over $3.00 each for them. That's not so bad now is it? Hope you feel better. And I have to admit....they really make those gates look good. But I would have chosen the little american eagle style instead. Or maybe the spear tips. But that's just me....just havin' some fun with ya.

RE: My finials finally came in!

I knew what I was paying when I ordered them, including the S&H. They are plastic and weight next to nothing. DW wanted them so I must pay the piper ;-) No...Not ripped off. You agreed to the shipping costs. So you don't have a problem there. But maybe need help with that DW you got there? Make her pay for them?:W Maybe????

RE: Should I buy a new tire?

On the edge of a tread....and you can be sure it is 3/8 deep....run it. But you will lose major points if entering into a tire beauty pageant.

RE: Laundry Day!

Starknaked, They were drying their boots on my time left. I had gone next door to buy something to drink. That is just UNBELIEVABLE. And to think they had time to remove your clothes, and then someone else would see them laying there and IMMEDIATELY run over and fold and stack all of them, before you could get back from next door with your drink. Simply unbelievable, I tell you. I know I have removed peoples things from dryers and folded and stacked them. But usually after I had waited more than a half hour to make sure they had plenty of time to tend to their own laundry. The unwritten rule is "15 minutes unattended". Beyond that they go to the lost and found box. But I wait for 30 minutes, then fold and stack. Someone else can put them in lost and found. I don't sanitize a washer. Never had a problem. But the lint filters in dryers...now that's another thing.

RE: My finials finally came in!

Would you feel better if the finial cost $49 and shipping was $29? If so....think of it that way. If I buy something on the www and they want to process my payment info before they quote shipping, I back out of the deal. I have...very rarely...paid $50 for a less than 1 pound spring for over night shipping. I did need it by the next day. And knew I was paying $50 before completing the deal.

RE: Should I buy a new tire?

I wouldn't. You state the cut is in the tread only. And not the belts or strength structure of the tire. If that is the case, it will be fine. But the real questions might be, are you sure the cut is only 3/8 deep? How wide is the cut? Did it close up completely after being cut? Or is the some portion that is gouged out? So just be sure you know how deep the cut is. And if it is like you say, just run it and watch it. It is a rear wheel and part of a dual set. So not likely a safety danger.

RE: Poor quality construction

Why were they the cheapest? Because they built homes like they build RV's. I'm talking about sticks and staples, and joints that were 1 inch gapped. Yeah, I know, production and speed rules. But these were houses in tornado alley, folks. And the exterior trim was all stapled together, and then the depressions were caulked over with cheap water-based caulk, which would shrink to nothing within a year. Hmmm. Now that I think about it....isn't it the Amish that can build a barn for their neighbors in a day or two? Isn't that what their building skills are famous for???:h

RE: Poor quality construction

People keep saying this, and I don't understand why they don't realize that RV manufacturing does not lend itself to the mass-production methods necessary to attract the foreign manufacturers. Snip... Very true. The low production rates of RVs relative to most automobiles does not lend themselves to the production techniques of most automobiles. Automobiles that are built at the production rates of RVs (and few exhibit quality comparable Honda and Toyota) are expensive relative to mass produced ones. I wonder if the folks at Caterpillar Tractor ever thought this way too. Seems they are now in the minority of heavy off road equipment. How 'bout the small aircraft industry. Or the shipbuilding industry. Never say never. The thing that keeps the foreigners away, is low total industry value. If the industry value is high enough they will come after it. That is why they are in ship building, off road equipment, private aircraft, etc. So the low cost (combined with low volume)of the RV industry is what is keeping the foreigners out of it. So the low pricing, is to the advantage of the USA builders. The foreigners can compete if they want. But why would they. There are better opportunities for them.

Also, squirting a little soapy water on kids will not injure them, will tend to make them smell better!!! That's reason enough....right there.:W

RE: Update...Never too experienced to not be stupid

OK...so we're getting ready to go away over the weekend. Get the trailer ready. No Power... NOTHING...Dead battery...and then some. Come to find out. when I installed the battery incorrectly, it blew 40A fuses in the separate sub-converter. So the battery eventually ran down from not charging for a month or so. The manual did address the problem. With very good explanation. But then the problem was to find the separate sub-converter. Traced wires and found it...after a while. Switched out the 40A fuses and back to charging the battery again...Life is good. The converter manufacturer is "World Friendly llc". According to the manufacturer, they install fuses to protect all circuits against installing the battery with reversed polarity. So I guess there are other dopes out there like me. And I am not the first. Two 40 Amp fuses. Bought a box of 5 for $2.49 at NAPA.

RE: I have 5 1/2 inch btwn top of bed and trailer

my next adjustment will put me at 6 1/4 above the bed,and about 1 inch high in the front.Im thinking this will be my best bet. I would go up one more adjustment to get 6 1/4". An inch high in front is no big deal. But hitting your bed rails is.

Funny...I often think of many weird and off the wall things. But this has never been one of them. Kind of like money...once it leaves my possession, I just don't think of it any further.

RE: 4 Point Level Up

My unit is the electric jack four point. But the manufacturer added the JT Strongarms to the system. Solid as a rock. I like it.

RE: Buy local or drive 9 hours?

Oh...they all have "Nationwide Service". And Nationwide warranty service too. Some dealers will provide warranty service, regardless of not selling the unit. But nothing says they need to. That would be their decision. And manufacturers will not usually force the issue. So some dealers refuse non-sales warranty service. And remember the RV business is a lot less volume centric than the automobile business. So there is much less incentive/motivation for them to provide free service to their non-purchasing clients. You want to pay for the service? You can get it worked on "Nation Wide." By the way, Manufacturers typically pay a lot less for repairs than the paying customer. And in some cases, they don't actually get paid at all. But the allowable and agreed authorized service amount is credited to the dealer and comes off their bill on future purchases from the manufacturer. I agree it would be nice if RV dealers did do it. But it would also be nice if they could be depended upon to do good reliable repair work, too.

RE: Slip Plate,Pullrite Superglide

GPS...While I do agree with you, these are likely the smaller sub-issues. And the lack of conversion kits is why I said, "They may not offer a conversion kit. But I'll bet you can buy the parts." More than likely the liability/warranty issues are the bigger thing for them. Especially considering non-employee installations.
