RE: Ford Escape Report

I don't think the sky is falling..........I think mlh may be correct since I believe the 2013 will be a 'half year model' due out soon and it is a different car than the escape we know. IMHO the tranny is not the problem, the techs and owners may be. Please let me know where to find a tech who checks the tranny level at 185 degrees like they should. I have not yet read of a failure where the setting of the level has been set at this temp. I know that I may be the next one to go FORD (Found On the Road Dead)with this problem and only state my opinions.

RE: 2012 Ford Escape

Jeff, many have had problems and many have had none. (2011 4wd v6, same as 2012) I have not had any yet and do not expect any. I believe, as do many others, that the failures are due to the fluid level not being set right both by the Ford techs and the owners. I do not believe that the fluid is hot enough when checked in a lot of cases. Ford says the level should be set at 185 degree temp. This fluid seems to have a high expansion rate and is the color of grape juice when new....
I run a scangageII to read fluid temps when I stop and run engine. Highest temp I have seen was 193.

RE: Crossed Safety Chains - State Law vs. Towbar design

Sure makes things better when making a turn....Think about how the chains change length when turning.....and what could happen if they are not long enough.

To me, 'break away' means 'complete separation' from the MOHO. Don't want the toad rolling down the road by itself!

RE: getting use to cpap mask

I'm not a Dr., but I think that the 10 percent is more like 99 percent. Putting on a full face mask makes us feel like someone/thing is stopping us from breathing. The way I was told to beat this feeling was to wear the mask while watching tv in the evening. This way, you can find out that you can still breath even if you plug the tube etc. With this out of the way (in our mind), sleeping becomes less of a threat.
What ever you do stay with it........if you need it, it will become your friend.
IMHO if you need a chin strap, you should be using a full face mask.
turn the RAMP off.

RE: Adaptive Strategy learns while you drive

Pull the battery leads and let it reset. When you reconnect, first the engine has to learn how to idle ...then driving will teach the transmission. Besides, you'll be doing this every year when you clean the battery terminals, right ?

RE: Ford Transmission Fluid

Yup! looks like coffee or grape juice right out of the container. Wonder how many have been changed out due to this.
It's not easy to get the tranny fluid up to the 185 degree temp required for setting the level for 4 down towing.
I find it interesting that Remco requires the level to be set at the Ford level.
Anyone heard anything about this ?

Tric-L-start. Hook it up and forget about it. If you add a solar system later, no changes are required.

RE: CCleaner 3.12 vs Avast 6.0.1289

lol Of course I should have said Avast..!! senior moment.. never said my fingers could spell...lol
Avast 6 is listed on the Apps page and checked. Have been running ccleaner 3.11 with avast 6 for some time now, without a problem. If I download and install ccleaner 3.12, it will remove avast! I'll keep looking.......

CCleaner 3.12 vs Avast 6.0.1289

CCleaner 3.11 plays nice with Avast, but CCleaner 3.12 wants to delete Advast 6.0.1289. Do I have something set wrong? Have not run into this before. System is win 7, 64 Sp1. Any ideas?

2011 Ford Escape LTD 4wd, toad charge in service - First Tow

Recently finished our first tow (about 750 miles) with this car and am happy to report it was flawless. The Escape handled like our '06 Escape Hybrid did which means that it was very well behaved.
Trans level set to "tow level" with the fluid at 185 degrees
as measured with a scangageII. Temp checked often, and after a six hour day, trans fluid temp reading was 193 degrees. Normal range is 185 - 200 degrees (ford).
Set up the toadcharge to feed from the House batts. Glad to have the toadcharge set up, as I can see where the BB and brake lights would have run down the battery.
Have been driving the car normal with no shift or slip problems.. and hope it stays that way.

ToadCharge to Chassis or House Battery ?

Toad Charge can be wired to either one. Which one do you use and why? I can see reasons for each hook up and wonder what users like or dislike about each choice. thanx

RE: TSB 11-7-15 ,2010-12 Escape,Fusion,Milan,Mariner

Glad to see there has been some success. Thanks for making the link Home Skillet.
Haven't pulled my '11 v6 4wd yet...but have been getting ready. Have searched and read most posts twice. After pulling our 06 Escape Hybrid around the past five years, it was time for a change.
Have found most Dealers response to Trans level to be "huh?" Have been checking level and temp (scangage) and have found the expansion rate of the fluid is unreal......
When checking cold (75 running)it 's almost on the stick. At 185 degrees it was 1/8 inch above tow limit. Removing another 4oz should put it in 'toad' range.
I have the dipstick with the bulb end, and two vent lines. I put the fluid I removed in a clear glass jar....looks like coffee. NO it's not burnt.
more later

TSB 11-7-15 ,2010-12 Escape,Fusion,Milan,Mariner

TSB 11-7-15 dated July 12,2011 outlines the proper procedure and tranny fluid level for towing 4 down for these vehicles. Has anyone who has complied with this TSP had towing problems?
I have read about problems and wonder if this TSB had been done before the problem occurred .........
thanx
jim
I should have stated Tranny fluid level was set for towing 4 down on purchase. Make sure you have it documented and make sure you check it yourself! If and when you check the level, be sure the temp is 185(f) or higher....

RE: Jumping chassis/house batteries together

Trik-L-Start is the way to go. After you install, do not be alarmed if it takes a few days to 'catch-up'. It will, and you will be a happy camper.
