RE: WHICH TENT TO BUY WITH SO MANY CHOICES OUT THERE?

My daughter just keeps saying buy something so we can go camping!Agreed. Go buy whatever cheapie tent is on sale at Walmart or Target and go camp. The absolute best way to figure out what you need for camping is to go camping.
If you decide you really like tent camping you can go out and get good quality gear that you know will get a lot of use. It doesn't make any sence to me to go buy a $300 tent that gets used once when a $39 one from Target will do.

RE: No rain fly tent suggestions please.

...we will be camping in sand dunes and the wind blows/gusts very, very strong...
I'm guessing desert camping in the winter?
For affordable, breathable single wall designs I would agree with canvas. Sure, tplife thinks canvas is outdated so you shouldn't use it for shelter. But, that's like saying leather is outdated so you shouldn't use it for motorcycle jackets. Please!
The problem with a Kodiak Canvas (we have one and LOVE it) and Springbar is that they are not freestanding. They have to be anchored. Not all that easy to do in sand.
I'd say wall tent is your best bet, but they are expensive.

My DW lost her mother to lymphoma. It is not an easy battle. I, too recall the wise and pragmatic utterances of He_Ruide. A good addition to this site, he. God speed.

RE: Towing with a Tahoe/yukon

With gas prices being what they are it's way cheaper to own both a tow vehicle and a daily driver than to use a tow vehicle as a daily driver. For the price of a newer 2500 Suburban you can get an older 2500 Suburban and a newer daily driver. I've considered doing just that with my 2006 F150.

RE: Camping with toddlers

Fishing (use toy fishing poles), water play/swimming, if you're at a lake or river. Walking, buckets & shovels, frisbee, the various throw & cath toys out there, plastic horseshoes, coloring books, paints, crafts... Pretty much anything you can think of is good. Teaching campfire songs after dinner is always fun, too. Like you said in an earlier post, you'll figure it out. Just keep them busy and get them tired.
And don't let them wreck your house. Once they are about two they are old enough to be taught to clean up after themselves (with your help of course). Spending a little extra time doing that now pays HUGE dividends as they get older. Good Luck!

RE: First Post, First Trailer Help!

Those young boys won't stay young for long. No matter what get a trailer with bunks for those boys. Converting tables & sofas into beds gets very old very fast.
Just about every major TT manufacturer makes these floorplans. Both of which can found in the 1/2 ton towable category:

RE: F150 Too Small for 32' Trailer?

I am not a big fan of our trucks. The motor is a dog, the A/C is horrible and the doors squeak. But, I would tow that trailer with my Screw. But, only with overload springs and a good weight distribution hitch. Only for a season or two while I was shopping for a bigger truck.

RE: Honda vs Yamaha 2000 When Running Parallel

I have two EU2000's (and pictures of a home-brew parallel kit) and my brother has a Yamaha 3000SeiB. We camp together multiple times a year so I am very familiar with both setups. My observations:
Pros:
Honda - light enough to carry around. Only need 1 to power anything in the trailer except the air conditioner.
Yamaha - Electric start. And has remote option. Can run anything in RV including air conditioner.
Cons:
Honda - You need 2 to run the air. Running the air uses a tank of gas in about 5 or 6 hours. Must buy or build an auxiliary tank. Pull start.
Yamaha - Oh my is it heavy. I am a big guy but I can not carry it by myself.

RE: April 15, 1912

Yep........it was a large boat that sank and lives were lost.
100 years later......large boats are still sinking and lives are still being lost.
100 years from now..large boats will probably still sink and lives will still be lost.
Mankind in all it's glory & wisdom still continues to make stupid mistakes.Unfortunately some of today's big boats fall out of the sky.

RE: I have been naughty.......

I don't have a landline and my cell phone is off. The cell phone is for MY use.
If family/friends want/need to contact me that know they have to send an e-mail.
I get NO phone calls.......and I LOVE it!Getting rid of our landline was one of our better decisions.

RE: SoCal Camping

One of the nicest camp grounds we have ever stayed at is in your own backyard. You should drive over and check it out. Rancho Jurupa
Agreed! For the past three years we've camped at Rancho Jurupa during Spring Break. The concrete RV pads are nice, but the dirt/gravel, older section of the campground is a real treat.
We've always had good luck with county parks. State parks are now so expensive, and they are run by Sacramento who apparently forgot that simple lesson we all learned as kids; don't spend more than you make. State Parks? Anymore, I'm not impressed.
Federal Parks in the mountains are still pretty nice. Idyllwild has a few nice parks, though small. Heart bar is one of our mountain favorites. There's Serrano in Big Bear Lake. I've never stayed there, but it's always booked and I've never heard anything but praise about it.
It's fun to stay in one of the RV parks in Anaheim and spend a day with the mouse. We like the park on Ball near the 5, can't remember what it's called, though.
Where ever you end up going, you'll have a great time.

RE: Impressive New Off Road Folding Trailer

What a cool rig. But, that bedroom is definitely for a young couple who doesn't make many middle-of-the-night bathroom trips. I dont think I'd like climbing in and out of that bed.
