RE: Newbie Questions - Power, Towing, Etc.

Go bigger. That small of a trailer with four of you is going to be very, very cramped and if you find you and your family really like rv-ing you will be looking to get another, larger rv fast. Save yourself the headache now. Think in the 23'-25' range. You have all the tow rig you need in the F-350. WD and anti-sway is a small expense when the safety of your family is involved. There is no running the AC without a generator or 120v source to plug into. Also, expect to drain your batteries rather fast if you are running a lot of lights and etc on batteries alone. Renting the first time or two is probably a good idea.

RE: How did you sell your old RV's?

I sold one Argosy and one Airstream on Craigslist in less than a week for each. Both were also parked behind a fence near a major county road so lots of traffic saw them as well. One each i made more than i initially paid. :)

RE: Fence post sewer hose mounting- **FINISHED**

I just used six 3' heavy duty zip ties to secure mine in place, underneath the rear frame. It certainly isnt going anywhere. I also painted mine black and drilled about 10 holes along the length of the bottom side to allow for draining. I use a small bungie to hold the lid on which is secured to the trailer by a small chain.

RE: Airstream - The Whole Enchilada

I always wanted to do that to my "75 Safari. Well done sir. An excellent job. A restored or rebuild Airstream is a beautiful sight to see.

RE: Steep Hills with a heavy TT

With your transmission in tow/haul mode you wont have any problems as all. Let the Torqshift do all the work of keeping your speed down as you descend the hill. Just enter the sharp corners at an appropriate speed and you will be fine.

RE: What should I get as my next vehicle?

The diesel absolutely. Another option i would consider would be a 3/4 ton with the 6.2.

RE: Airstream, Avion, etc.

Having owned two "vintage" Airstreams and watched my FIL rebuild a vintage trailer of his own my $.02 would be that once it is stripped down to the frame it really doesnt matter. I think you will find old Airstreams easier to find than a Avion or Silver Streak or the like. Since you will be in 100% control of the rebuild the quality assurance of each step is up to you. You can skimp or over build to your hearts desire. I would head over to the AIR forums if i were you and read some of the restoration threads. There are some amazingly beautiful rebuilds people have done. I think at some point i too would like to rebuild one. I did enjoy owning an Airstream, even if it required constant work because of the rigors of time and use.
