RE: loose wire

The loose wire in the battery compartment of my Jayco is for solar panels. I'm pretty sure it is a two-conductor wire. If I remember correctly, it is red with a white stripe, no terminal ends. RT'er Ditto

RE: Dometic Fridge not cooling (the problem found)

If the fridge is not level (5-15 degrees) it will not work on electric or propane. I spent a day pulling my hair trying to figure it out. Level the trailer and you should be fine. If your rig is 15 degrees off level you won't be comfortable in it either. My manual says that the refrigerator has to be reasonably level. If your ok, it's ok.

RE: Montana Black Tank Issue

Y there is a checkvalve for the flush & it is usually located behind the shower or under the sink.

RE: Mor/Ryde IS Suspension System?

They are very popular with Carriage owners and everyone that has it raves. The other comment about $5K is what I heard also for the suspension and disks. I for one wouldn't spring for the disk brakes, I don't think there is enough reduction in stopping distance to justify the cost. I've installed IS & disk brakes on 2 different fivers. The difference in stopping distance & smoothness of stopping is significant.

RE: Under unit air conditioning

Cold Air falls & hot air rises. If you have the AC in the basement you would have to duct it up to the roof to get it to cool properly plus you lose storage space in basement. I never have enough storage space!

RE: Venting your 5th Wheel while driving

I do not open any windows or vents as it is possible that fumes from the waste tanks or exhaust from the tow vehicle can be drawn into the RV while running down the road. We just open up the unit when we arrive and it vents quickly. The only way fumes from the tanks can be drawn in is if your toilet seal does not work properly, your p traps don't have water in them or you have a bad auto vent on your grey tank drains.''As far as fumes from the truck go, opent a rear window on the fiver & open your exhaust vent in the bathroom & turn on the fan. Depending on waste tank roof vent location(s)......fumes can be drawn in thru open fan vents... We tried flowing air thru rig when traveling in HOT weather. HOT air didn't do much cooling. We just crank up the A/C when we park. Rig is cooled down by time we finish setting up. If I have the fan on exhaust how can fumes be drawn into the fiver from the waste tank vents?

RE: 65 MPH, awning deployed like a parachute!!!

In all of the cases you folks are aware of, were any automatic awnings involved or were any of them manual?

RE: Black water flush not letting water in.

any way to check that? ha get it!? Seriously, do I have to take panels down to get access to the tanks? Is this something I could be able to do? I had the same problem with my new fifth wheel last year. The lines to the flush were installed backwards at the factory. This means when you connect the water line to the flush, the water pressure closes the backflow preventer. You can either switch the lines at the black water tank if you can reach them or find the backflow preventer & switch the lines there. In my case the backflow preventer is located behind the shower. There is an access panel there to access the shower faucet for service. If yours is located there you can make the switch. Otherwise, I would take it back to the dealer. Of course, if your dealer is close by, then the easiest thing is to return there.

RE: Do I need greese?

The entire concept of the plastic disk is to remove the need for grease... http://eldonrv.com/lube-disc-for-5th-wheel-hitches.aspx What disk are you folks using that requires grease ? That is true but it does not remove the need for grease on the pin itself. The disk lubricates the top of your hitch & the bottom of the pinbox. The jaws of the hitch engage the pin & if you do not use grease you will get metal to metal wear & it will eventually wear the metal on the jaws of the hitch.

RE: mobile suits

The Tradition is made by DRV who also makes Mobile Suites. The Tradition replaced the Select Suites which was phased out after the 2011 year. DRV is an excellent company & treats their customers very well. We have a 2010 Select Suites & like it very much. We also like the service we have gotten from DRV & their positive attitude towards their customers. The Tradition seems very well built. It is on an 8' wide frame which is pretty much the industry standard. The Select Suites & Mobile Suites are made on 8&1/2' wide frames. The Tradition would make a very good four season camper. If you want more info, please PM me.

RE: Tom Peck retired from DRV March 1, 2012

I never dealt with Tom Peck pwersonally but have dealt with Ryan Miller who is no longer there & also with Chad Olinger. Chad is a great guy & very knowledgeable. I think he will do a great job.

RE: question about mor ryde independent suspension

I've spent the money twice to have the IS suspension installed. First was on a Jayco Designer & now on my Select Suites. Also had Kodiak disk brakes installed on both units. I think that the fact I did it twice is a testament to how great that suspension works! I just wish I had put it on the Designer before putting 35,000 miles on it. The next 15000 miles were great. So when I bought the Select I went to MorRyde within 2 weeks of buying it. They are a great company & treat their customers with great respect & will do almost anything to please them.

RE: Awning for Slide out??

When I ordered my 5er, I really wanted them because I liked the look of them. But the dealer realy talked me out of them. He said when ever he takes a trailer in on trade with the owning covers he know they'll need replaced. He also said that they were a maintence issue and they really didn't keep things from getting on the slides so it's harder to clean them off. He could have made more money on me by selling them and he didn't want to. That said alot! To each his own. I've had 3 fivers. #1 had no slideout cover. I got tired of either sweeping off the slideout roof or finding debris inside my fiver on top of the slideout & bought a topper. #2 was a Designer with 3 slideouts & factory installed covers. We put 50,000 miles on it through 48 states & five years & when I traded it in the covers still looked good. #3 is a DRV Select Suites with no covers. I used it a few times & got tired of cleaning off the slideouts every time I parked anywhere near trees so I had covers installed after owning it for 5 months. I've been in Florida a couple of months under trees & no leaves between the covers & the slideout roof. But that is what works for me.

RE: DRV Tradition

Being Mobile Suite owners for 5 years now and looking at many DRV products we were very disappointed in the Tradition. The Select Suite line that was eliminated to bring on the Tradition was much nicer. Compare the frame and suspension plus many other features before you spend your $$ on the Tradition. They went light weight/cheap compared to the Mobile Suite and Elite Suite. I'll give you a slightly different opinion. We own a 2010 Select Suites & are very happy with it. We looked at the new Traditions at the Tampa Show. I Am disappointed that DRV no longer makes the Select since the Select is 101" wide & has many of the nice features of the Mobiles & Elites. I tell people that the Select is like a really nice Chevy & the Mobile is a Cadillac. The Tradition was very nicely laid out & the quality of workmanship looked very good. If I were looking for a fiver lighter than the Mobile & wanted a very good quality product at a fair price, I would definitely consider the Tradition. In addition, DRV treats their customers very well. You can actually talk to the owner of the company, Dave Fought. If you have a chance, take the factory tour. DRV actually lets you walk on the production lines while they are building their trailers. I don't think I would consider a Tradition because I hope my Select is the last fiver I have to buy. However, if I were looking for a new fiver I would go for the Mobile Suites since I now have a truck that can safely pull it & not be overweight. If the poster of the thread wants, he can PM me for more info. DRV also has a great referral program for both the new buyer & the person who refers him.

RE: Awning for Slide out??

See now that is exactly what I was thinking! if you get up there and sweep it off occassionally I wouldn't imagine there would be a problem. If you are the type of camper who travels frequently, you'll have to sweep it off almost every time you move.

RE: Sprayer For Toilet

Boy did I make a mistake for starting this thread! LOL. Thanks for all of the input from the guys with good suggestions & the humor from the others! A spray bottle or a pitcher of water are alternatives to a sprayer. However, since my comments are in the toilet, (rather than the gutter), I'll explain further. The sprayer comes in very handy when you are flushing the toilet & a piece of toilet paper or you know what is hung up. By grabbing the sprayer I can flush the offending stuff down the drain without risking getting something caught in the rubber seal in the toilet. My thought is that this might prevent something from causing the seal to eventually leak. The sprayer is right there so I can take care of things while the toilet is still flushing. I think this actually saves water rather than waiting for the water from the rim to eventually flush the paper down the drain. As far as those of you who think I'm referring to a bidet, sorry. I'm not cultured enough to use a bidet. I can barely spell it. I've had 3 fivers & this is the first one with a sprayer & I will never have a fiver without one. Thanks again to those trying to help my neigbor who wants to install a sprayer on his toilet. I think Home Depot is the way to go. However, keep those witty comments coming!

RE: Sprayer For Toilet

Thanks for the posts. His toilet does have a port that looks like it could be cut off. The idea of the Home Depot kitchen sink sprayer is a good one since they're about $20 instead of $50 at Camping World.

RE: Sprayer For Toilet

You ARE talking about a 5th Wheel toilet sprayer, RIGHT? "My next door neighbor in the rv park saw the sprayer we have for our toilet & wants to add one to his toilet. Has anyone done this & is there an universal kit?" My post is above. It says my neighbor in the "RV PARK" saw the sprayer we have for our "TOILET" & wants to add one to his "TOILET". I posted the thread on the fifth wheel forum. So yes, I am talking about a fifth wheel toilet sprayer. Do you have anything to add to the thread?
