RE: Is this a scam

If you are looking to donate $2136 to someone it's a great deal. If you want something for your money (maybe a car) go elsewhere.

RE: Another way to carry a unmounted spare tire

I don't have any place under my coach to carry a tire. I'm sure I do on the roof but I would never do that. :)

RE: 2011 newmar canyon star 3856 CCC?????

I am being told that a 2011 Canyon Star model 3856 (39ft) triple slide on a ford F53 chassis and ford gas engine has a CCC of 4760 lbs. can this be possible????? most diesels that i have looked at don't have that mich CCC. any opinions? So it's built on a 26K chassis and still has 4760 left for CCC, that leaves 21,240 for wet weight. That does seems too light for a 39' three slide unit. I would bet it's correct though Newmar likely wouldn't make a mistake like that.

RE: poorly done ad by Newell

ALL Newells are sold before they are built. Then why do they have unsold 2013 models on their web site?

RE: Cost of having AIR conditioning ON?????

If you have to worry about the cost of using your AC it may be the RV lifestyle is not for you. Jim That is awesome! When I read pearls like this I can hardly believe it comes at no charge to us. Thanks for mingling with us little people.

RE: Driving with slide extended?

I drove about 100 feet with the bedroom slide out by accident. I could go into the "how it happened" but it still wouldn't make us look any better. Sounds like these folks knew it was out and were ok with that- that's nuts.

RE: Fuel mileage

I've heard other people say "If you have to worry about mileage you don't belong in a motor home"...food for thought...IMHO, of course I've heard other people make that same comment and I think to myself they are very stupid for verbalizing that. Just because someone asks a MPG question doesn't mean they are "worried". Further, everyone should know exactly what economy their RV returns as a variation might mean a problem is brewing.

RE: 260 hp diesel - can it be reprogrammed?

My 95 Bounder had a ISB that made 230 HP and it was ample the torque was over 600. I would not mess with the engine one bit it ought to be plenty of power.

RE: 2000 safari Zanzibar 39' diesel

I agree the build quality was above average. Over all I'm happy with my 2002 but I don't know how it compares to a 2000.

RE: Anyone dump their televisions???

No I would never dump the TV's. We stay busy when we RV so they don't see a lot of use but I like watching news etc. We have even been known to rent a Redbox while on the road.

RE: Motorhome Accident, I35 in NW Kanas

A couple of the jpeg show a triple axle trailer or something. Possibly a stacker trailer. Either way it sounds like it was full of motorized toys for the 18 people.

RE: Michelin Truck Tires @ Costco

Sounds like too much work to bother with. Count me as someone that would not be able to pick up or transport 6 tires.

RE: Am I the only one left that still likes carpeting?

I dislike carpet and have changed most of our home to tile or hard wood.

RE: What about Speedco service?

Two years now with Speedco and no major complaints. They are much less $$ than the big truck shops for pm's.

RE: Filon roof problems

I didn't know they ever used Filon for roofs. Are you sure that's what it is? Safari used it too that's what I have.

RE: diesel heater plug in

Pre warming is just smart and you won't hurt your engine so why worry. A pre warmed diesel starts easier and it's easier on your equipment-batteries, starter, etc. If you want to give your rig tough love with no pre warming so what and who cares. I will warm if below 30 or so and she turns over half way through the key crank with little white smoke. Maybe it makes me feel good but again- who cares.

RE: LCD, LED, Plasma difference and recommendations?

All comments made about the Plasma so far, are old and outdated. The new generation Plasma is nowhere near the power hog or heat generator of the older models. We just bought a large Plasma for the S & B after much research. It is far and away the best choice for TV aficionados. Also, it is NOT as fragile as some make it out to be. I think I might qualify as a TV aficionado and I agree plasma is the best choice on almost all levels to compare. Depressed pricing just makes it even sweeter. However I still wouldn't put one in a RV if only based on weight and consumption.

RE: De-winterize trip prep while still cold - tips?

We have been traveling in winter (Thanksgiving & Christmas) for about 12 years and this is what I do; I bring the rig home (in front of house) the evening before departure always full of fuel & LP, but winterized. I fill completely with water and run furnace as though we are staying in it. Sometimes weather is mild but sometimes it's very cold. I have never been let down with a frozen pipe and I'm sure it has costed me a few bucks in LP too. I could care less we won't travel without water. I know everyone's rig is different but even with minimal heat running mine will brave some very cold temps. And yes I have almost been frost bit before just filling before a winter trip but having all the comforts of home is that important to us. Same thing coming home- freezing temps and winterizing very cold on the hands but worth it. Don't forget to check the pressure in the tires speaking of cold hands.

RE: "Exercising" the diesel when not traveling

Lots of different beliefs for diesel engines. If it's really cold leave it alone. If you have nothing better to do then take it out for 10+ miles. Letting it just idle does more harm than good. Many farm engines sit all winter without being cranked, year after year, after year. This is the way I have been playing it for a few years now. If the weather is mild and dry I'll take it out and have fun doing it. If it's nasty I'll pass and won't give it another thought. Being a working stiff living in the midwest I need a window of nice weather on a weekend to make it happen. This winter we are still using it but last winter it went from November to about March without any exercise. I'm in a garage so I still run the genny running the exhaust out under the door.
