RE: Parvo Outbreak

I-10 South to the border, all of Cochise County, Tucson, Phoenix and Prescot are also reporting an outbreak in their areas. I just want to pass on the information to the people that come here for the Winter to ensure that their pet's parvo vaccination is current before they arrive as our Snow Bird season starts the end of October.

Parvo Outbreak

We are experiencing an outbreak of this virus here in the SE AZ desert. Please ensure that your pets have been vaccinated for this as some here have been affected. Just a heads up and a reminder.

RE: Need Help from Cat People

Thank you all for your posts. We know it was the white cat that started it on Friday afternoon. Sydney HATES cats with a purple passion and she watches for them in the front yard through the windows. She was very angry so we went out to see what was out there and the quail were screaming bloody murder. My husband went from one end of the bushes and I went to the other end. I could see little furry white feet and then the white cat. It had little bitty bird feet hanging from it's mouth... Never a good sign. There is no way that we can fence off our front yard to stop a predator cat from entering. The back yard has a wall around it, 5 feet high, and the cat just jumps over it when the quail are in the back. There's been a couple of close calls between cat and dog. I also can't build an enclosure for them in the front yard as these are wild quail that live in my evergreen bushes. I don't know where the cats live in this area as most of our neighbors have dogs or no pets at all. If I knew who owned either of them I would talk to them about the problem. But I doubt that would make a difference. I was hoping that there might be some kind of spray or something like that that I could douse the gravel yard down with to discourage them. But that doesn't appear to be an option. Again, thanks for your suggestions and replies.

Need Help from Cat People

We have Gambel's Quail that live in our front yard. We've put in seed blocks and a bird bath for them and have bushes and trees that they like. We have a pair that stay with us year round and nest their babies in our bushes. On Friday we had the parents and 8 chicks. On Saturday there were no chicks, just the parents. The chicks couldn't fly yet and we called them the "puff balls" cuz that's what they looked like. Have you ever seen quail grieve? The parents sat on our wall and cried all day long at us. Apparently there are 2 cats that live in the neighborhood, one white and one black, and they decimated the chicks. We bought a live trap for the cats and baited it with cat food but the cats are ignoring it. I want the quail to stay but how do I discourage the cats from using my yard as their personal hunting ground?

RE: Doggie Day Care

Yes, we used it last year while we were at the park. You must come back to walk your dog if you are going to be there all day. It was neat and clean. They have 2 different types and I can't remember what the difference was, other than more money. We went with the cheaper one as I couldn't see the need for the added expense. Syd was in an area away from the other dogs and looked kinda sad back there by herself. Apparently most dog owners opt for the more expensive pkg. Very nice, caring people. I can't remember if we made reservations in advance. We stayed at the campground that was closest to the park and it too was very nice, neat and clean. Our only problem with the campground is that we were parked right in front of the restrooms/game room and people kept walking thru out space but that's not the parks fault. I would highly recommend both the campground and the day care facility.

AZ Pet Fire Victims Assistance

More victims of the Wallow fire.... These are all volunteers who are trying to keep the animals safe and alive during this awful fire. Driving to St John's AZ is probably out of the question for most of you. But, if you could give a donation of any amount I know it will be appreciated. if you know anyone in Northern AZ please pass this along. More info about animals in need in Northeastern AZ. Also info if someone needs livestock moved out of the area. Please pass on to anyone who can give them some news coverage and get the word out that they can help if you're in the fire area and need to get animals out of danger. Also info to donate. Please forward or help with news coverage if you are in a position to do so. Please donate if you cannot help in any other way. Here's the link to Round Valley Animal Rescue's website: http://www.rvarescue.com/ You can donate online.

RE: Anybody towing a 2009 Ford Escape with no problems?

We have towed our 2010 Escape for 12,000 miles. We had to have the transmission replaced after the second tow with less than 2,000 miles on it. Since the replacement, and following all the required procedures, we have had no problems. touch wood! However, my husband is still concerned and looking at trading his PU in on something else to tow. He just doesn't know what other light weight vehicle to choose.

RE: Vessel sinks in bathroom?

We redid all 3 bathrooms in our house last year. The master bath was a total gut and redo. I put in vessel sinks in our bathroom because my husband has broken and crushed vertebrae and bending over to wash face, brush teeth etc. was extremely difficult and painful for him. I don't care whether they go out of fashion as I don't follow trends but they have made his life much easier since he doesn't have to bend waaay over any more.

RE: Thyroid Cancer

My daughter had the same surgery and the radioactive iodine treatment in the mid 90's. She had to wear playtex gloves, cover herself from head to toe and use a separate bathroom for several weeks. They also asked if she planned on doing any airline travel as she would set off the radioactive scanners at the airport. I don't remember the time frame for the "flying" problem but they gave her a card to carry as a "just in case". She is fine and still has annual appointments with her endocrinologist.

RE: Replace Satellite Dish

Thanx everyone for your feedback, I really appreciate it. The only reason we're looking at replacing the crank up dish is it's just getting physically too hard for my husband to do it. Holding his arms above his heard and turning that dial with his hands has become very painful and difficult for him. Don't look at me, I've never had any upper body strength. Having the dome would be such a help for both of us. I'll pass on all your info so that he can make a decision.

Replace Satellite Dish

I've searched for this topic in the Class A Forum and haven't found anything. Is it possible to replace our crank up satellite dish with a dome? Would they use the same wiring? The crank up looks like it's in the same place a dome would go. We are considering doing this and would like to know if it's even possible. Thnx for the help.
