RE: Ford 6.0 PSD - broke down - fuel issue?

Sticky vains in the turbo would cause the low boost and that would explain the low power but not the rough running. I would suggest you pull the filters and see what you can see. Also you need to pull any codes.

RE: Ford 6.0 PSD - broke down - fuel issue?

So here I am with my new-to-me 2005 F250, 6 litre PSD, and broke down in Montmagny Quebec. It slowly lost power over around a half hour or so, started to run very rough, and now will barely run at all. I did run it fairly low on fuel, and I could well have gotten bad fuel on my trip. If I change the fuel filters, am I likely to cure this? What can I do to troubleshoot? Thanks, Brian Any CEL's Brian? First thing you need to do is pull the codes. Never a bad idea to pull the fuel filter and take a look or drain a bit and see what you see. Any weird smoke out the exhaust? Any idea when the EGR valve was last pulled or looked at? Also do you have a boost gauge? If so what does it read?

RE: Gas additive

I have just burnt up the last of 300 gallons I had in underground storage. It was there for 5 years. I have engines around here that sit for a year and are used for a week or two. I used to put Stabil in the tank but about 10 years ago I stopped. Never had a problem and this is with Ca alky fuel.

RE: For you Ford 6.7L owners

Has someone actually heard of anyone who paid for a HPFP failure out of pocket. From the little bit I have read about it - if Ford shrugs off their responsibility to look after their customer based on water in the fuel, the customer goes to his insurance company for coverage. Here is a little reading for you. I know if I was the adjuster I would not ok it unless it was vandalism or something of that nature. This is Fords baby. They designed the engine and the fuel system and the filter system. If a few drops of water can take it out that should be on them.

RE: White smoke exhaust cold start 2006 PSD. Liquid in exhaust.

I was actually going to send him to you RR!!! LOL, great minds think alike. How is that beautiful truck of yours doing? ROTFLMAO Turtle. I think we all know who you would NOT suggest. Maybe IB will chime in on the black boxes. I did know a few guys who cleared their boxes before getting warranty work. Breaking into a code data base isn't rocket science. LOL, ya he is a real genius! :R We agree on something! I had coolant loss, my wrench turner did a pressure test, found a crack in the coolant bottle near the bottom. Replacing the coolant bottle and installing a new pressure cap, viola! No more coolant loss! No expense to replace an EGR cooler, no head gasket repair, no horror stories about the POS engine that is supposedly in my truck. A simple $150 repair, parts and labor. I flushed the cooling system, added a coolant filter and replaced the coolant at the same time, another $150 parts and labor job. Glad it worked out for you; for many it does not. Ford has a billion reasons to hate Nav and Nav has a billion reasons to hate Ford. Did you see the internal emails that were posted? Scary to know what the big wigs from Ford REALLY thought about this engine. :E

RE: HPFP ??

I do wish this thread would deal with the OP's problem, instead of becoming a bash fest for people with an axe to grind against Ford and their products. If you know something about the problem and can offer valid advice, post. If all you can contribute is in your humble opinion anything with a blue oval on the grille is a rolling POS, keep it to yourself. I for one don't care to hear about how my choice of tow vehicle will implode, self-destruct, leave me stranded, and is one of the worst vehicles ever sold, especially when the person telling me this has never owned a vehicle like mine and posts only to impose misery. By the way, my truck has not imploded, self-destructed, and has only left me stranded once due to a battery with a dead short in it. But I suppose since the battery had a Ford logo on it, that makes the battery a POS, and because it's connected to the truck, that makes the truck a POS. If that is your train of thought, spare us... I already gave him the answer in post 13. He just needs a dealer to do the work now. :)

RE: Ford owns it's logo again!

Boy those denied HPFP warranty claims must be adding up :W Always like hearing good news for Detroit. Good for Ford! ROTFLMAO 14 grand apiece coming "into" your pocket instead of going out adds up quickly. All kidding aside good for Ford. I'm glad China does not own their name anymore and they bought it back. Now the US needs to do the same thing and we are good to go. :B Wonder how much you can borrow on the Ford name? :h

My advice: If you don't like what you see on a thread stop clicking on it!But I just can't help myself. Now can we stop talking about the Ridge and get back to the HPFP discussion, I've only read 84 pages of it this week, I'm feeling some wtihdrawl :B. LOL, ya, ya, ya, I use the same excuse when I look at other women.......(I just can't help myself) until I get slapped upside my head. :B

Sorry for your loss......and our loss. A brave man if he was in a tank in WW2. A lot of good men were killed in those things. That and subs. Again, sorry for your loss.

RE: HPFP ??

Actually dspencer.........it's kinda funny when you think about it. This morning "Team Mod" closed a thread about the Ridgeline after only 2 pages because a few members were beating up on it a bit, even though still on topic. Ridge Thread But because this post is about the Ford HPFP, I'll bet it runs up into 50 pages like all the other HPFP threads regardless of how far it strays of course. No, it wasn't on topic. It was a thread about tow vehicles in the TOWING forum... I suppose they could've just moved it but all it was, was a bash-fest that was quickly circling the drain anyway... As opposed to this mess which continues on 9 pages deep. Like a moth to a light. My advice: If you don't like what you see on a thread stop clicking on it! A non-smoking friend used to hang out with a bunch of smokers. He used to tell me he wished they would stop smoking because "he" did not like it. I told him "he" needed to stop hanging around them. He did not like that advice. :S

RE: Ford F-150 eco-boost MPG

Believe me I have nothing against the new F-150 turbo V-6. No doubt a fine, powerful half-ton. But am I the only one underwhelmed by the gas mileage. What is it, about 22 highway I think. My 2007 5.2 V-8 Chevy will average a little over 20(that would go up to 21 or more if not 4WD) on interstate non-towing and get about 15 overall average. The advantage Ford claims doesn't seem all that impressive for 2 less cylinders. Certainly not enough better to be worth trading for or paying a lot for the option? Am I missing something? Not quite sure what you want or what you think the Ecoboost should get for mileage? The amount of cylinders really does not have much bearing on fuel mileage on a turbo engine. If you limited the amount of HP of a V8 Ecoboost to that of the V6 Ecoboost you would pretty much get the same mileage the V6 gets. The common rule is HP is HP. It does not matter if it comes from a N/A V6 or a N/A V8. A mechanical supercharged engine is a little harder on fuel than a N/A engine and the turbo engine is the worst of all but these are very small differences to begin with so there is not much difference in BSFC of all three. Now days your only driving on the cylinders you need anyway. Remember the old Caddie 8-6-4 flop? This is common now days but they don't call it that anymore. The reason people don't get good mileage with this truck while towing a big load up big hills is because that little 3.5L engine almost turns into a BIG 7L engine at WOT under full boost. That is a lot of inches to feed! Ever see the Indy race where they turn the boost down so they can get good mileage or turn the boost up to get more power? You can't have both. Bottom line is you want the HP you have to pay for it either with diesel or gasoline because there are only so many BTU's in a gallon.

RE: White smoke exhaust cold start 2006 PSD. Liquid in exhaust.

Howdy back from the world's worst procrastinator. Maybe that should be the best procrastinator. I finally completed the simple test for bad EGR Cooler or Head Gaskets posted by Bullet Proof Diesel that Turtle n Peeps linked way back at the beginning. Skip to last paragraph for the fast answer. Thanks again to all who tried to help. Faster action on my part would have gotten me the answer in a few days instead of months. Couldn't find a rubber cork for a long time. Being retired and having a golf cart in the garage, I put off getting the bad news for a looong time as I did other things, worked on ways to finance the job, use substitutes for the rubber cork and just plain stalled for a long time. Found the cork last week in a specialty items bin at Lowe's, drilled the hole for the tube, and blew the test procedures. First it was sucking water out of the bottle. Think for a day or two. Added plenty of water. Started blowing water out instead of air like the video stated. Not a clue!! Opps. Maybe I should have the tube above water level. Ran test with turbo connected, then with it disconnected, then with it reconnected. End result. Good news, apparently. Results of the test indicated that the HGs are okay and it is just the EGR Cooler. Thanks again to all, especially Turtle for the link that gave me the final answer. I call for a tow and repairs tomorrow. You didn't think I was ready to quit stalling, did you?? Glad it wasn't the head gaskets. Are you going to do a delete or are you going to replace the coolers? Hope you get your truck back soon. If you decide to do upgrades let me know and I'll see if I can steer you in the right direction. Likewise, I could also assist in some of these "upgrades". I was actually going to send him to you RR!!! LOL, great minds think alike. :W How is that beautiful truck of yours doing?

RE: Diesel ford ranger

I suspect our little diesel smart cars will last us for the next decade or so but personally a small diesel ford ranger would be an easy choice over a half ton for me if I was in the market. It would be an economical and handy little runabout probably achieving 50 mpg or better. We routinely achieve better than 70 mpg US with our little diesels. 50 should be an easy stretch for a little pickup with a little diesel. Your dreaming. 50 MPG in a truck won't happen in a million years with the DPF and other stuff. Even the TDI does not get that here. And that is only with a 2.0 liter let along with a 3.whatever.

RE: CNG?

I found this article more recently on the subject of bi-fuel trucks: http://www.truckinginfo.com/engine-smarts/news-detail.asp?news_id=76297&news_category_id=102 One of my co-workers brought up this idea of a CNG bi-fuel truck that could combine the lower cost of use for around-town driving, as well as the advantages of long range via running on gasoline. He recently sold his late-model Honda Civic & bought a Nissan Leaf for around-town commuting, while keeping his pickup truck for longer trips, which he was hoping to replace with a bi-fuel truck soon. We live very near a utility company-owned CNG station where the GGE cost is $2.02 per "gallon". I just priced out a Ford F350 prepped for CNG with the options I'd like: http://shar.es/qbVxE which would probably run another $10K to add the CNG tank, plumbing, etc. Since my wife is the one who regularly drives our current Suburban, if we were to sell the Sub & she drove the truck to work & back each day, she'd be going from about $.28/mile to $.13/mile in-town. The CNG station is a block from her workplace, so it would work very well for us, and the gasoline range would be available when used for trips & pulling a toyhauler trailer we intend to purchase. Any thoughts on the benefit of purchasing this type of vehicle based on our living very near a CNG station? I'm trying to sweeten the deal with the DW, since she's very attached to her Sub based on all the space it has for her to carry around way more******than she needs on a daily basis... I will never work out unless gas goes WAY up very fast. If you can get your CNG for 2 bucks a gallon then you have to add road tax on that. So another 50 cents in Ca. So now your up to $2.50 a gallon for fuel. GGE of CNG is 65%. So you will need 35% more fuel to go the same distance with CNG. See the problem? You are already at almost 0 payback of your 10 grand investment that you put on the do the changeover. Even without road tax the payback will be so slow your vehicle will be junk long before you get your money back. That is my 2 cents.
