RE: Basement organization

I'm not good at pictures but I organize things by using large plastic totes with covers. Items of a similar nature go together in the same tote.

RE: Explain limited slip differential

My chevy has a locker and compared to the previous limited slip I have driven I much prefer the locker. . .
Sound advice. A locker only locks when one wheel slips. In my experience sometimes a limited slip will impede free rotation on both wheels in tight turns on dry pavement, increasing tire wear.

RE: Say it ain't so

. . . I think one way would be to have the one time state fee like Michigan does.
Just for clarity, the OP was talking about camping fees. Michigan's one time fee, now part of the license plate fee, only gets you in the gate. Entrance fees for out of state vehicles have gone up. And like others Michigan keeps raising fees on camping at its most popular parks.

RE: How do you carry your bikes?

My bike rack is on the front of the truck. I bought a front receiver and the rack is a standard slide-into-the-receiver type.
I used to have the rack on the back of the 5er but got tired of reparing bikes and racks and replacing rear windows. Too much bouncing around.

RE: Where is your in bed plug?

Why would they have the extra wire in the front of the wheel well?
I think that in front of the wheel well was popular when the average guy could reach over the bed rail and plug the cord in there. It worked for me.
Now that so many bed rails are too high to do that comfortably, the location of choice has moved to the rear of the hweel well.
Even if you have to add wire, it is easier to add to the length of a pigtail with stripped wires than to do your own "T" spice into a wire harness.

RE: Michigan CG thoughts, Van Buren, Ldngtn, & Sleeping Bear?

If you are serious about Ludington State Park the only way you will have a chance at a reservation in July is to be on the phone or online at 8:00 AM six months to the day before you want to be there. Reservations are next to impossible to get. There are private campgounds near by if you don't mind driving. It's a bit of a drive, the road into the park alone is about 5 miles.
Not to discourage you, the park is worth the trouble. it's one of Michigan's most popular.

RE: Where is your in bed plug?

. . . It's a short bed and has the wiring 5th wheel wiring provisions and it's in front of the drivers side wheel. It's a Chevy one ton SRW. . .
My truck bed is very similar to yours. When I had an RV dealer install the recepticle they put it at the rear near the tailgate. They had to add about 2 feet of wiring to the factory pigtail to make it work. I'm glad they did. I don't think i could reach over the higher side rails and plug the cord in ahead of the wheel well.

RE: How do you log your mileage on your tt?

I keep a spreadsheet of miles traveled, nights spent in the 5er, city and name of place.
Miles come from either the truck odometer, Mapquest, or Garmin trip history.

RE: Oil and VCI question for diesels

If I recall correctly from my days as a packaging engineer, VCI stands for Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor. Back then it was a piece of paper that we put into the box with a metal part. It would give off a vapor that would drive moisture out keeping the part from rusting. Sounds like the stuff tgobob talks about is essentially the same thing.

RE: Best way to use Streets and Trips with GPS

I'll be interested in the responses you get about the advantages. As for the question about buying a GPS for Streets and Trips, I got a used Pharos unit on ebay for $15

RE: Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch

Do not get a slider !! Sliders are responsible for tire, wheel, bearing and axle failures. Get a regular hitch and STAY OUT of situations where you have to make sharp turns.
There, somebody has to be the opposition so I am it.
Well, a little tire wear is not as bad as a broken rear window. Suspension failures from using a slider? First time I've ever heard of it. Even so, if you have a slider you don't have to use it until you need it. And when you do, you'll be glad you have it.

RE: Ever ring your bell on your pinbox?

. . . . I talked to a gentleman that wore a helmet when he was setting up or getting ready to leave, said he was tired of bleeding so much when he worked around his trailer.
That's what my wife wants me to do. I think she's tired of the scars all over my bald head.

RE: Does a large RV seriously limit your camping options?

We moved from a 30' fifth wheel to one 38' long. It really puts a crimp on a lot of national and state parks. 30' seems to be frequent cut off point. We bought the larger unit because we live in it for three months in the winter. If not for that, I would have stayed with the smaller.

RE: 'In-Bed' 7 way connector

I mounted mine further back than the photo. It is just a few inches in front of the tailgate. Mine is a Chevy with a slightly different bed.
Mine is like this. The Checy bed has a corner "Pillar" which provides depth for the socket to fit between the inner and outer bed wall.
Just a suggestion that you check this clearance between inner and outer wall BEFORE your drill.

RE: 5th wheel hitch

I once drove 20 miles at 60 mph with the sider in the maneuver postion. Not by choice but by oversight. Couldn't even tell the difference.
In my opinion the only time the difference in weight distribution could be a problem is in rain or other slippery conditions. Slding the hitch back takes weight off of your steering axle.

RE: Temporary/Part-timer Internet Access

You can get a wireless modem for Verizon and others at places like Walmart that you can then set up as a pay as you go plan. In the case of Verizon you can't do it at their store, they only will offer the full plan. But you can get pay as you go at Walmart. It is pricey but if you only use it for a few weeks a year like we do, it may work out.
Verizon offers prepaid data plans at their company stores. The Verizon resellers don't as far as I know.
OK, Maybe I got it turned around. What I actually did was buy the modem on ebay then call Verizon Customer Service. It took a little while and I had to get an account seperate from my cell phones but it got me internet access.

RE: Insurance for RV stored in one state but live in another?

This got me to thinking also. Our fifth wheel is sitting on a lot in AZ. We left it there in October to avoid pulling to Michigan and back to AZ in January. After I read this I called my agent (AAA.) He said there was no problem, we are covered.

RE: Spray on Bra For Coach?

Should be poasible, talk to a bedliner installer.
But why? It's a one way trip, no going back if you don't like it. They sand blast the paint (or something similar) so the spray on stuff will stick. And the front of your unit will look like the inside of a truck bed. The stuff wears like iron but is rough and will never really look clean once you get dirt or something into the its pores.

RE: Towing Limits

Old old news thats not very up to date or accurate info.
I wondered about that too. Modern shipping containers are 53' long and 8 1/2' wide. You see them in every state. Something doesn't add up.
