RE: 5th wheel hitch

I once drove 20 miles at 60 mph with the sider in the maneuver postion. Not by choice but by oversight. Couldn't even tell the difference.
In my opinion the only time the difference in weight distribution could be a problem is in rain or other slippery conditions. Slding the hitch back takes weight off of your steering axle.

RE: Temporary/Part-timer Internet Access

You can get a wireless modem for Verizon and others at places like Walmart that you can then set up as a pay as you go plan. In the case of Verizon you can't do it at their store, they only will offer the full plan. But you can get pay as you go at Walmart. It is pricey but if you only use it for a few weeks a year like we do, it may work out.
Verizon offers prepaid data plans at their company stores. The Verizon resellers don't as far as I know.
OK, Maybe I got it turned around. What I actually did was buy the modem on ebay then call Verizon Customer Service. It took a little while and I had to get an account seperate from my cell phones but it got me internet access.

RE: Insurance for RV stored in one state but live in another?

This got me to thinking also. Our fifth wheel is sitting on a lot in AZ. We left it there in October to avoid pulling to Michigan and back to AZ in January. After I read this I called my agent (AAA.) He said there was no problem, we are covered.

RE: Spray on Bra For Coach?

Should be poasible, talk to a bedliner installer.
But why? It's a one way trip, no going back if you don't like it. They sand blast the paint (or something similar) so the spray on stuff will stick. And the front of your unit will look like the inside of a truck bed. The stuff wears like iron but is rough and will never really look clean once you get dirt or something into the its pores.

RE: Towing Limits

Old old news thats not very up to date or accurate info.
I wondered about that too. Modern shipping containers are 53' long and 8 1/2' wide. You see them in every state. Something doesn't add up.

RE: Running FW furnace off batteries

. . . I have an 04 DMax and have been under the impression that no electric powwer comes from the truck if it is not running. Am I wrong?
I think it varies from truck to truck. Check your manual and/or the window sticker. I know my '08 Silverado has a feature where the truck is connected UNTIL the truck battery is at risk and then the truck computer disconnects the trailer connection.

Wyoming, Michigan
How about cities with country names, e.g.
Peru, Indiana
Mexico, Indiana
Lima, Ohio

RE: Imput on Keystone & Rockwood travel trailers, others

We "moved up" from a Rockwood to a Montana by Keystone. In our opinion the workmanship was better in the Rockwood than the Montana. The Montana has more bells and whistles though.

RE: Not Unhooking For Overnight Stops?

Now IF you don't have a Ford. you may want to unhook the 7 pin. But on Fords, there is no need
What is the differance between a ford 7 pin versus the other 2 of the big 3's 7 pins?
Ford uses a relay to isolate the trailer electrical system from the truck except when the ignition is turned on. This prevents the possibility of running down the truck battery while using the trailer. GM and Dodge both use only a fuse so under the same circumstances it IS possible to flatten the truck batteries and not be able to start i the morning.
Actually my '08 Silverado also comes with a battery isolator circuit.

RE: Registering an out of state new trailer in Calif.

Had a similar situation here in Michigan years ago. Only difference was a sheriff's deputy came to the house to do it. I wonder if they still would in these days of budget cutbacks.

RE: Montana 5th Wheel tire problems????????

Can't speak for all Goodyear Marathon tires but the original tires on my Rockwood were Marathons which I determined were made in New Zealand. When they started to go I replaced them with Matathons that were made in Alabama, and only two months old. There was a Chinese made Marathon in the mix too.

RE: air pressure in tires when unloaded

I try to lower the pressure when not towing primarily to improve the wear pattern on the rear tires. At full pressure they tend to wear out in the middle. However, I have found if I lower the rear tires to less than 65#, I get a tire pressure warning on my dash warning system.

RE: Filling Fresh Tank From City Connection

Look for a valve somewhere on your trailer, probably mear the city connection or dump valve handles. I can pressure fill my 5er and the valve is in a "control center" in the basement

RE: Left stove vent open on return trip home.

Had to do it also. Only problem was used too much of the sealing tape they gave me. The unit stood out farther than ut should have. If you use the same tape try thinning it out by squeezing it before you put it ion.

RE: Newbie getting ready for 5th wheel fulltiming

You should have asked here before buying the truck. Most 3/4 ton trucks are limited by the GVWR.
BK
Respectfully I think you are being overly alarmistic. My 2008 250 HD w/Duramax is rated for towing 15,000 lbs. You can get a lot of trailer for that. My 38 footer is around 12,000 loaded.

RE: Can I install additional seatbelts?

Years ago I put set belts in the dinette that I built in the back of an Econoine van. I bolted them through the mteal floor of the van. I don't think that mine were anchored well enough to meet any legal requirments but it probably didn't matter because the riders were sitting sideways which I think is a no-no. I think passengers have to face forward to be properly restained.
Still, I figured that at least they would be held in place if the van left the road which would better than being tossed around.
I got the belts I used, with retractors, at a junk yard, er . . automotive recycler.

Check out the topic "3000W Chinese Gensets Info."
It's primarily about Champion generators and these creative guys have installed them in a lot of different trailers and fifth wheels.

You can get onfo on the state parks at
Michigan DNR
If you are interested in something more rustic there are campgrounds in the Hiawatha National Forest. Bay Furnace is just west of town

I didn't think of using the word "icon" in my search. And I was not aware I had to use the same email for RV.net and my Good Sams club.
