RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

We're currently on the road going back east after and extended 'three hour tour' starting last August
Welcome to the forum. Please explain. Do you mean you left in the RV for a 3 hour tour last August and never went home? If so, sounds like you are having fun!

RE: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class C

The 12.2 volt reading that is on my volt meter in the morning is with the fridge still running so there is still a load on the battery, If I unplugged everything then the volt meter would then rise to a higher reading.
Yes, it would be helpful to disconnect the battery, wait a couple of hours , then take a voltage reading.
Also, of course, the fridge will use more power when the outside temps are hotter, so this is something to keep in mind.

RE: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class C

My Volt meter reads 12.5 with a full charge in the battery, If I turn on only one light it will drop to 12.4 When I ran the fridge all night the next morning the meter reads 12.2 volts, with the generator running or when plugged into shore power the meter reads 13.6 volts, I ran the fridge all night and the battery was still just about a full charge, It took very little to run this fridge all night.
If I understand what you are saying that the voltage was 12.2v in the morning, then the battery is half discharged (not "just about full charge") and you are not supposed to discharge a battery more than this. So, you are only getting less than 24hrs of run time (fridge plus whatever else you were using) before the battery needs to be recharged. I don't know what the charge capability your system has, but my 35amp smart charger takes 4-6 hours to recharge a battery from half discharged.

OldTrucker63,
You may be intested in this conversation about using 120v refrigerators in RVs.

RE: Cool Mods

Has anyone mounted a small floor safe in there RV.
I have been considering one of these small safes. I don't see it in the online description, but I remember it having bolt holes so it could be bolted down. In addition to being a fire-safe it is also water-safe which would be useful if water was used to put out a fire.
I am planning on mounting it in a somewhat hidden recessed spot in the back of the hanging closet in my RV. I could probably even put a false wall in front of it.

Since the T105 batteries are 6v you can't use three. Either two in wired series or two sets of two in series.
I'm sure the electric fridge worked fine in a big rig because you were driving it every day. In an RV you probably won't be driving it every day and you will have lots of other things running off the batteries too.

I don't think you can use Eternabond if the siding is corrugated.

Remember that 1.5 amps at 120v is 15 amps at 12v. Thus to get 1.5 amps out of the inverter you must put 15 amps in. Actually, more than 15 amps since the inverter itself uses some power.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Vaxination,
Never use Silicone--it doesn't hold up well to UV and it is very difficult to get off completely where it does stick. Note that nothing sticks to residual Silicone--not even Silicone.
Use butyl tape. This is a sticky substance about 1/8" thick by 3/4" wide. You need to remove the windows and remove the old tape. Note that the old tape is most likely putty tape which is not nearly as good as butyl tape. Paint thinner works well to clean the residue. Then replace with the new tape. You will have to get butyl tape from an RV supply source.
Here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1u3fe3CJuYY
Note that they use a silicone bead around the outside. I recommend ProFlex RV instead. It is not a silicone but is just as flexible and is made for RVs.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Oldtrucker63,
My GPS has options; shortest route, route using the least gas, highways only route. Are you sure your's doesn't have these?

One thing to keep in mind with a Fantastic fan in the bathroom. If you have it on exhaust when you flush the toilet, it will suck the fumes out of the black tank when the toilet valve is opened. This is obviously not what you want, so remember to turn off the fan before flushing.
It looks like you are off to a great spring start.

Vax,
I forgot to mention to check the lamps and sockets for corrosion too. Most of mine were corroded. I used a battery terminal round wire brush to clean up the sockets and a regular wire brush to clean the lamps. A few lamps I just replaced. Then I coated everything with dielectric grease to prevent further corrosion.

...when i pull the headlights on, one of the turn signals doesnt work.
I would suspect bad wiring. If you have a flakey connection, then the additional draw of the headlights may be sucking up all the available power so the turn signal can't get enough power to work. Check all the wire connections to the headlights and the turn signals paying particular attention to the ground connections (these often get corroded).

Most states have a maximum vehicle width of 102".
I would guess then that all awnings are in violation of this?
If so, then apparently this law is not enforced.

With the squirter now working, the engine starts quickly when cold.
Note that after it sits for a number of days without being started, you will have to pump the gas pedal a few times before it will start. At first I didn't do this because I was afraid of flooding it, but without pumping it some it won't start. I have never had it flood on me.

OK, the posting I was referring to was two posts before my post about the square dowels.
I am seeing 181 pages.

"Where was the reference to square dowels?"
It was the last post on page 180 by WBROWN62.
The last few pages are all discussing the mounting of shelves using dowels.

RE: Cool Mods

"on the square dowels"
As I was reading the thread about using "dowels" for shelf brackets, I wondered why anyone would want to use a round rod for a bracket. In the previous message, I saw the reference to "square dowels" and then looked up dowels in both Wikipedia and dictionary.com and they define dowels as "solid cylindrical rods." However, I do see "square dowels" listed in Google search results, so apparently someone decided to change the definition of "dowel." I thought I would point this out for others who may have been confused about this also.
