RE: Aux fan not working 97 chev pickup

My old 93 K2500 had a oil cooler like the one Ben posted in his Picture on the drivers side and did not have a trans cooler from the factory. I moved the oil cooler down and installed a B&M trans cooler with fan above the oil cooler. The Aux fan would come on with AC. If temps are an issue and you have a factory copper 4 core radiator replace it with a good 4 core aluminum one. This will cool much better. I made this change on the 93 and made a big difference. The Trans cooler with fan helped keep it cool when towing at slower speeds when the trans TC was unlocked and creating heat. It also supplemented the other two fans.

RE: Aux fan not working 97 chev pickup

My 93 K2500 would come on with AC and I think the Van 95 Chevy 1 ton with 454 would also come on with AC.

RE: Open Range

Going on second year with mine. Only 2 minor issues quickly resolved by Open Range and my Dealer. Mine get used 90 days or more a season. Been Great RV.

RE: Fifth Wheels

I have and use the storage in the front of the bed (8 foot Long bed), Its covered by my Extang Tri Fold. and I also put the cooler behind the hitch sometimes. I have also had an EZ-set tent stored along the side of the hitch. Never a problem. Short bed trucks will give you less room for Truck Bed uses when hitched. Most 5th wheels will give you much more storage compared to a Trailer.

RE: Getting the best mileage possible

Diesel Power mag just had this question posted. If you have gauges. try keep it in low boost rpm range and a lower EGT's means better economy.

RE: 1990 Ford 460 FI major power loss

When it slows is the engine temp going up. If so a blocked Cat can cause your symptoms.

RE: Sorry state of fuel in North America

Ethanol is damaging lots of Farm and Lawn equipment. and other things. There was a report I saw about a gas station only selling Gas no ethanol added. and the people in that area are paying about 20 cents more for it but are seeing very good increase in fuel miles per gallon, and found it to be worth the extra cost. The Gov talks one thing about wanting to increase the mpg of cars but won't sell us the ones that already get 75 mpg that are made here but are not allowed to be sold here. Reason. The Road taxes tied to gas consumption.

RE: Tahoe vrs F150

Go Tahoe unless you want an expensive repair bill to replace the plugs. Or fine an equivalent gas GM or Dodge or Ford with 2 valve 5.4. Hensley or Propride would cure the wheelbase issue. You may fine one of these used on Craigslist that may be cheaper then replacing what you have.

RE: New Truck Break in period

Had my rear gears changed, I was able to put 500 miles on mine just before a big trip I had planned. I would try to put the miles on it before the trip.

RE: Should I buy this F350 7.3L to replace my Suburban K2500?

I can tell you I am very Happy about my change from my old 93 GMC 2500 with 454. Pulls so much better and the fuel economy is so much better. I've had my 97 for 2 years now. Nothing But good reliable towing and 20 mpg not towing. I don't think the old Burb got better than 10 mpg. running empty.

RE: Pick 'em up truck bed cover opinions...please

Extang Tri Fold. Folds easy, Don't have to remove to tow. Hides my 5th wheel hitch, Bed stays dry, when folded leaves a dry space to store firewood and other items when towing in the front of the bed. The Tri fold may not work with short bed and 5th wheel hitch. Looks Great. Can remove the entire cover pretty quick if needed.

RE: Atwood Jack - is 2,500 sufficient?

Atwood 2500 came on my Sunline in 2000. It had a tongue weight of 1000lbs. Then moved it to Montana Trailer with Hensley Hitch 1200lb tongue weight. Never had any issues with this Atwood. Vehicles used with these trailers were 1 Ton Chevy Van, 1991 1500 Suburban, 93 GMC 2500 Suburban, and my current TV. They are very good jacks.

RE: Cold air intake

They can help but only if you can also increase the exhaust side flow. on a 2003 I doubt you improve it much since the factory already did. On older vehicles they can and do help if Exhaust, Intake and Cats are changed and have improved flow over the stock Parts. I think you would have to go back to about 1996 or older setups to see the benefits on these changes. A good Tuner may be more of a benefit because it can adjust the timing, Fuel mixture. Most new cars and trucks are tuned Lean from the factory to reduce emissions. Lean mixture rob power and affects efficiency. A Proper Tune and mixture should help HP and economy.

RE: 04 liberty brake rotors

Also make sure to get good rotors and make sure you are using the right pads that match the OEM spec. Example using regular pad when ceramics are called for. If you don't the pads could warp the rotors sooner. If you have a caliper problem the pads will be worn uneven, Usually the inside pad will be more worn than the outer.

RE: bunkhouse or NO bunkhouse?

Have had bunks since my First Trailer. Sunline had 3 in the back. Then to a Montana Trailer with slides and bunk room 3 bunks and couch. Son got married and now have Grand Daughter. They still camp with us when they can. My daughter will be married soon and they also still camp with us when they can. So new 5th wheel last year with bunk room 2 couches and 2 bunks and enough room for pack N Play with 1/2 bath. Its has worked well when everyone is camping with us.

RE: Two Low Milage 7.3 PSD...

The 99 has better stronger rods and capable of being build to 450HP without needed block upgrades. The recommended on the 02 is 400hp without touching the block. But these are only concerns if you plan to do upgrades. Also check the Weight Stickers. There may be a difference because when the 99 came out the trucks got heavier and ford kept the same GVWR from the 97. These showed lowered payload. I think the adjustment was made by 02.

RE: 2006 Ram 2500 5.9 CTD

The VP44 was not the weak link but the Carter Lift Pumps that fed it on the 1998-2002. On Topic, Congratulations on such a nice Truck. It should last a long time. My BIL has an early 07 and he loves it. He has not had a problem with his and he tows a 11,000lb 5th wheel.

RE: Parking in dowwntown Wahington D.C

If going to be in the Frederick Md area then use a MARC Lot.( Gettysburg about 40 miles north) Lots of parking at the Monocacy Station . Parking is free, Train will cost 14 dollars per person round trip from there to Union Station. There are 3 train running on the Frederick lines, depart at 5:18, 6:10, 7:10, return at 5, 7, 8 There are lots of other MARC Lost in the MD area. Point of Rocks station at the MD, Va Line on rt 15 also has plenty of parking and lots more trains running on this part of the line. Other Marc Lots run down the Baltimore Camden Lines and are along the 95 corridor north of the beltway. I park at the Monocacy station daily, Never had a problem.
