RE: Canadian cell phones

Skype is good but be sure all your called places are on line at the time you want to talk.
Actually Skype has a plan for something like $3/month that lets you call from your computer to a landline or cell phone, so the party you're calling does not have to be online when you call. Of course it's voice only; no video. We tried it on our trip to Alaska last summer and the biggest problems were finding a wifi hotspot with a signal strong enough to hold a connection and with enough bandwidth to support VOIP.
Jim
Interesting,,,, I've never tried Skype with out video.
I wonder if it can be supported by a dish/sat connection? Like if you have internet thru your satellite? never tried that either.

RE: New Monaco Diplomat

I think if you would get on line, you could find the floor plan you want in the American Coach or the Newmar. Roy
While they have some that are close and beleive me we have looked at them both they don;t work as well as the Diplomat.
One of the fun parts of the research stage I guess. I do know that the 2012 Dutch Stars have 17k front axles which would make worrying about it CCC virtually nil.
Thanks
Trap
My personal safety going down the road trumps the floor plan, specially if the floor plan is close to what I need.

RE: New Monaco Diplomat

My big concern would be the 20' over hang, this severely limits where you can take the coach. Monaco is using it as a counter balance to remove weight from the front axel, at the cost of dragging it.

RE: Question about transmission and being towed

Check the tranny fluid by the method in the Owners manual, it may be low. plus the large electronic connector on the forward left side of the trans might be making a poor connection.

RE: Just test drove a new Ram 3500 - WOW

The truck rating is all dependent upon the amount of tires on the ground, 8 side walls are always better than 4. the spring set will always carry more than the tires.
we've had three dodges in a row, and never had any issues with the cummins or the tranny. Cummins did recall our 2002 for a fuel pump up grade, we did it but wasn't having any issues prior to the recall. we ran one of our trucks with a 600 horse chip, It still was running strong when we traded it at 257K
and yes the cabs have improved greatly.

RE: Another battery question ???

Generally, the 2, 6 volt batteries will be larger than a single 12 volt you will be replacing. plus you will need 4, 6 volt batteries to replace 2, 12 volt.
2, 6 volt batteries will not have the amperage holding capacity that 1, 12 volts will. (unless they are huge)
I think you need to get more information before making statements like this. The exact opposite is generally true.
when you are replacing batteries you must have the size that will fit the rack, and 6 volt batteries that will produce the amperage, won't fit in the space that two 12s will.
when you consider that the 2, 12s will do more work than the number of 6s that will fit the space.
If you want to build a rack to fit the 4, 6 volts have at it.

RE: New 22.5 Tires in or Near Sacramento, ca

Les Schwab beat both Good year, and Bridgestone on prices with the Michlin RV/Coach tires. by about 100 per tire.

RE: RVing in Pacific NW in late March?

I am a teacher and the last week of March 2012 is our spring break. We have a small travel trailer and want a place to go in the Pacific NW for five days, but we don't want to have to travel on snowy roads. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Any camp ground down low should be fine. Do you need full hook ups? Two beautiful camps at Deception Pass, 1 with and 1 one with out, and one at Fort Casey (with out). Most of the national forests are high, and will be closed that early due to snow left over from the winter.
Check before trying any camps along the rivers, due to high water from the spring run off.

RE: Driving I5 & I10 in winter

I would leave in late Jan or early Feb. Watch the weather as it comes through your area. You will need one or two days to get in the Salt Lake area and take I-15 south.
I-84 is normally in good shape. We normally stop at the casino east of Pendleton to see what the truckers are doing. We try to run through the Blues during daylight hours.
You need to say what your time length of trip is.
You will be in low temps until you are well into AZ by I-15.

RE: Driving I5 & I10 in winter

I-5 south to Bakersfield, then 58 thru Tehachapi pass to Barstow, then 267 yucca Valley, then 62 PalmSprings, I-10 all the way. That cuts off the LA basin and the traffic. and it will only be slippery thru Oregon.

RE: Avoiding Rockies to Las Vegas from Canada?

Remember Flagstaff is over 7,000 feet high, and will have snow. We did the trip from upstate NY to LA in December and had slippery roads all the way. not fun but it can be done. It's a rare day that I -10 will be slippery.

RE: Question for all Class A,C,B & TC people about towing

fully loaded the Newmar weighs about 30K#, and max gross weight is 43k# that leaves me 13k# as towable weight. I've never towed that weight because it would be a dog on the highway, and be fuel pig.

RE: Possible 2002 Damon Escaper

The long wheel base on the DP allows it to high center a LOT quicker that the 5er. Twist and flex will not be good for the big box DP. but it will go as long as it fits. Remember you will be well over 20,000# loaded to camp. A soft spot in the dirt road will get expensive.
