Wana RV?

I live close enough to consider buying from one of the dealers in the northern Indiana factory area. I got a good price from Wana RV, but don't know anything about them. Do you?

RE: Prepay Internet Service

Virgin mobile has worked well for me over the past couple of years and twenty or so states. Very rarely do I not have coverage even in the most out of the way campgrounds.

RE: Do You Use Premium Gas When Towing ?

I don't burn premium, but do get better results with non-ethanol blends when I can find them.

RE: Help me out on future trailer weights please

You will enjoy towing 6,000 pounds with that rig, I do. It is the same powertrain that I have. The 6-speed is a great enhancement. My Silverado gets about the same fuel mileage as other brands, towing (10.2) and empty (19.6).

RE: Sweet! Just installed a new electric jack

One of the big "advantages" that fifth wheelers claim is ease of hitching/unhitching. The electric tongue jack eliminates that difference. (I have had both)

RE: F150 Review; 3,300 Mile Towing Trip; Long

Good job. If more people towed about 50-60% of their tow vehicles ratings, we would see a lot more happy reports.

RE: How about an EcoBoost sticky?

You don't have to get the 8,200 pound GVWR to get the 11000 pound tow rating.
I know that you don't "have to", but when you put all the numbers together, tongue weight, passengers, and cargo that most of us carry with us, don't you think you "should" if you are going to tow over 11,000 pounds of camper? I would want the Max payload as well as any other Max options for towing that much, but that is just me.

RE: How about an EcoBoost sticky?

The thing that makes it interesting is that people think they are getting a 8200 pound GVWR F-150 when they find an EcoBoost under the hood. (Most are not)
And where do you get your information from?
From the Ford advertisements that mention EcoBoost, F-150, and over 11,000 pounds towing capacity in the same advertisement. Not lying, and no more misleading than other ads.

RE: How about an EcoBoost sticky?

Lighten up folks, it is only a pickup truck. I was being a little facetious about the sticky thing. The thing that makes it interesting is that people think they are getting a 8200 pound GVWR F-150 when they find an EcoBoost under the hood. (Most are not) The EcoBoost gets 18-20 mpg empty on the highway and about 10 mpg towing, which is what most small block gas engines average.

How about an EcoBoost sticky?

Some days it seems like about half the Tow Vehicle posts involve Ford's latest and greatest anyway. They could all be compiled into one big sticky. You know the ones: "Mine gets 10 mpg towing 10,000 pounds", "Mine gets 10.5". "Mine is rated to tow 11,000 pounds, but I am sure 15,000 pounds would not slow her down." "I get 18.7 mpg in the mountains, cause I coast down the other side." "I get 25 mpg, cause that's what the computer showed the other day". One owner has 7 lug wheels while "Mine only has 6. I got cheated!"

RE: "Normal" for GM 2500 HD 6.0 / 6 speed ?

Pulling a 9,000 pound fifth wheel with my '09 2500HD with 6.0, I got better mileage letting the engine run easily in fourth gear rather than trying to keep it in fifth.

RE: 2012 Chevy 1500 for towing

I wish I had kept my 2500HD while towing in a 30-40 mph crosswind today. The heavier truck is a plus in such situation, that and the much stiffer tires. Otherwise, my 2012 5.3 1500 does fine.

RE: Downsizing

And why would you be "curious" about how I sleep at home or anywhere else? You don't seem to understand what "personally" means. It means that what I like may be different from what you like. You seem intent on making your preference the only and best one. I think you are the one with your head somewhere and it is not in the toilet.

RE: Downsizing

I keep saying "Personally". I don't care if you want to sleep with your head in the bathroom. That's your "personal" option. Just not for me.

RE: Trailer Trailer vs. Fifth Wheel Drivability

Had both. By the time I got rid of the "Chucking" that is common with fifth wheels, I was ready to move to a TT. Less steps, flat floor, and more "Bang for the buck" with the travel trailer. Granted that the fifth wheel manufacturers put together some very fancy units, just not for me.

RE: Downsizing

That makes no sense to me. Why walk the length of whatever RV you have when you need to get up in the middle of the night to tinkle (or whatever)?
If walking the fifteen or twenty feet is a challenge, I suppose it would be better to have the potty close to the bed. I like to disturb and be disturbed as little as possible by my traveling partner and that includes listening to bathroom noises. One man's "tinkle" is another man's annoyance. I said, "personally", not that it was best for you or anyone else.

RE: Winter-ing the RGV?

Winter in the Rio Grande Valley is "usually" fairly warm and windy. January of 2007 had 17 days with measurable precipitation, and it was cold. That was one extreme. Ice on the freeway in January of 2011 was another exception. Very cheap compared to Florida.

RE: Downsizing

I see a lot of front bedroom rear bathroom units nowadays but don't like that layout. Why walk across the entire length of the rig during the middle of the night (we're seniors) just to use the bathroom?............
Personally, I like having the bathroom as far away from the bed as possible. The closeness was something that I did not like about my fifth wheel or when I traveled with a friend in a Class A motorhome.

RE: What are features to a well built TT?

Everyone, but me, loves slides. To me, they are either a problem now or will be. I look at a solid strong floor, as a good base. Both of my Rockwood trailers failed that test after a short time.
