RE: Breakdown...

You don't have much of a choice as they have your engine apart. I would speak very nicely to them about lowering their charge. I'm thinking in the ~$5500 range. If they cooperate I would buy pizza for the shop and donuts in the AM. -Tom

RE: Crossing the Bridge

Plain and simple this toll is calculated on weight concentrated in a given area. Ex: A bridge can support the weigh of 50 cars but it can not support one car that weighs the same as 50 cars. Vehicles that put a heavier weight load on a bridge structure pay more than 2 vehicles that weigh the same total amount. Ask a structural engineer about loads.

RE: Sudbury to Wawa

Take 17. I've driven the other route, going to Biscotasing Lake, and had to drive through water. Beaver dams backed up a couple streams and flooded the road. The road from 144 to 101 is dirt. 17 along Lake Superior is very scenic. -Tom

RE: PMB (domicile address) for Medicare?

Only Part D or Medicare Advantage Plans can't be used in another state. NOT true. My wife and I have Advantage plans and receive coverage both in PA and FL. And we have coverage in most, if not all states under our Blue Cross/Blue Shield Advantage plan. -Tom

RE: I-77 tolls through WV

This highway is actually the WV Turnpike. When I first traveled it back in the early 1980's it was a 2 lane toll road. The tolls are close to the lowest in the USA. Only 2 or 3 tool plazas. -Tom

RE: Temporary tags for an out of state move?

When you go to a WV notary to change the title get an intransit permit. This permit will allow you to take the RV from WV to the state you plan to register it in. You will need proof of insurance on the RV.

RE: Sales tax question -

You pay sales tax in the state where you register your motorhome purchase. I bought new in NY and the dealer gave me an intransit permit to take the motorhome out of NY. When I registered in PA I paid the PA sales tax. -Tom

RE: Question...

My coach shifts into 6th gear at 62 mph. So, 65 is my sweet spot as I can set the cruise and stay in 6 th gear for the best fuel milage and distance covering. IMHO, you'd get better mileage by driving slower in 5th gear. I'm thinking you are not correct on this one. Diesels are a different animal than gassers. Depending on the final drive it's probably turning fewer RPM's at 65MPH in 6th gear than it would at 55 MPH in 5th gear. The major factor in fuel/gas mileage is drag created by wind resistance. Higher speed more drag.

RE: Engine diagnostics plug not odbii?

I have both the round port, that you are referring to, and the normal oblong OBDII port. I think the round port is for the Allison or something to do with the anti-lock brakes. See my photo below. You have a normal OBDII somewhere. -Tom http://people.consolidated.net/tomnagy/DSC02153smm.JPG

RE: internet while on the road

For occasional light use setup your cellphone to dial up your ISP on one of their dial up numbers. You'll need a phone to computer USB cable. Speed will be ~56k but it'll do for email access and light browsing. And it's FREE. Smart phone NOT needed.

Not much rush hour traffic on I-485 on the west side of Charlotte and it's 6 lanes.

RE: Pay at pump question

If I had to put up with that much BS I wouldn't have any cards, mine are good for $1000.00 each fill up and my Visa is good for $20,000. so I don't have those hassels, When you take on 300 gallons plus a $1000.00 don't last very long. The one reason why you need different cards for different card locks. Just my thoughts. Same here, but the limits that are being discussed in this thread are controlled by the gas station, not the credit card company.

RE: Skyline Drive Campground

We love to stay up on the mountain at Big Meadows. It doesn't have hook ups, but it is in the middle of nature. The ranger programs there are great too as well as the hiking. We enter from Front Royal and drive the to Big Meadows to set up camp. We then travel around in the toad. You have to be able to fit thru the tunnel to get to Big Meadows: RVs, camping trailers, and horse trailers are welcome, but be prepared to shift into low gear. Also, be sure you will clear Marys Rock Tunnel (just south of Thornton Gap entrance from Route 211) at 12'8". We are heading there for Easter. Beautiful place! Safe travels! All the national park campgrounds close October 31st. Tunnels will absolutely not be a problem. And the Skyline Drive is not tedious.
