RE: Purchasing a Diesel Pusher!!!

100% veggy oil sure sounds like a lot of work and potentially a lot of problems for very little benefit. Why not just drive it for awhile, sort out any problems and fix whats broke first. Then tinker with veggy thing by starting with a low % mix and working up.

Selling DP, new tires or not?

We are considering selling our '97 DP. The tires are probably due for replacement because of age. Would new tires improve the opportunity for sale, or improve it's sale price? Or would I just be throwing away my money? Or should I just sell it as is?

RE: Can't put on value extenders

The best bet is for the the tires to be dismounted and have extended metal valve stems installed. They make them for all wheel positions, and they place the fill portion exactly where they need to be for easy access and filling. Something to consider when installing new tires.

RE: Thinking About Calling It Quits

We have enjoyed touring this great country the last 20 years, and have visited every state but Alaska and Hawaii, 8 Canadian Provinces and portions of northen Mexico, many of those areas multiple times. It was great fun and a real privilege! We vacillate about selling the rig. Interests change, we have a great home in a great area and we are enjoying it and our many friends. We may continue to use it for shorter trips, but I would sell it if I thought anyone would buy it.

RE: With a 30 footer do I need to tow a car?

We have a 30' DP and would not travel without a Toad. The Toad expands your travel options greatly, there are just so many place I would not take the DP. There is almost no extra fuel cost it towing a car, plus your comparing 20-30 mpg for the Toad and 7-10 mpg for the coach. The only extra cost is the towing equipment. Hooking and unhooking is a minor hassel.

RE: Carpet or laminate flooring for Class A

Having installed and used both laminated and Allure vinyl planks (Home Depot), my money would be on the the Allure or a similar product because of ease of installation. The vinyl planks are flexible, easily cut with hand tools and quick to install. Both products are similar in terms of appearance and clean ability.

RE: Is your Dash A/C enough in the summer while driving?

We use the dash air until about 85-90 degrees plus the two dash mounted fans. We also close the hallway door. If the temps go up we run the propane generator and roof airs.

RE: Duo-therm airconditioner torque for hold down bolts

If you have trouble getting your gasket to seal, or want to do a temporary fix you can do what I did. My new rear air conditioner gasket leaked even after repeatedly snugging down the bolts. I ran a 3/4" diameter rubber hose around the base of air conditioning and compressed it fit into the gap between the roof and air conditioner. I then ran a bead of caulking at the joint between the roof and the rubber hose. This forms a dam to divert the water before it gets to the gasket. No leakee now!

RE: Parking without draining batteries

Have you checked your batteries and are they topped up with distilled water? What type battery do you have, 12 or 6 volt? How many batteries? How little power can you get by on? Lights only, furnace, brew coffee and run TV? Lots of questions with answered based on how amp hrs you need, for how long before running generator.

RE: Blue Ridge Parkway

We have taken the Blue Ridge Parkway in our 30' Beaver Monterey with no problems. With a 45 mph speed limit its a slow go.

Tire size confusion?

Our Beaver Monterey currently has 255/70/22.5 tires. However the wall data plate indicates the correct size is 9R-22.5. These are apparently two different tire measurement systems. I know that the 255/70/22.5 tire is the larger of the two sizes. So what size would the 9R-22.5 tire be if measured in the same system as the 255/70/22.5?

RE: Windshield Fans - should I install a set?

We installed 120 volt fans in place of the original 12 volt units and run them off the inverter. They work great for defogging, and can also be directed at both front seats. They work great to supplement the dash air, or provide comfort by themselves. They delay the time I need to start the generator and run the roof air conditioning units.

RE: Continental vs Toyo

We have had 255/70/22.5 TOYO's for the last 7 years and have found them to be quiet, smooth and a nice ride. At 55,000 miles there is no noticeable tread ware.

Red Max Pro #3/ZEP Wet look prep work

After looking in vain for Red Max Pro#3 at Lowe's, I was able to pick up a gallon of ZEP Wet Look finish at Home Depot. I'm amazed at how well Bar Keepers Friend works at removing the oxidization on both the paint and gel coat. It works much better than the automotive polishing compound I've used in the past. Wish me luck, I only have about 99% to go!

RE: Tire inflation pressure versus tire life?

Just curious, the correct tire pressure for the TOYO tires on our rig based on the tire size and weight at all 4 corners is at the extreme low end of the tire pressure chart for both front and rear. The recommended pressure for our 255/70/22.5 tires is only 75 lb front and 85 lb rear, although I add an extra 5 lb as a safety margin. This is WAY under the max inflation pressure on the tire sidewall. Question. Will such a tire have a longer life than a tire running at its max pressure? Just to clarify: Would a properly inflated tire on a rig requiring 75 lb pressure outlast the same tire on a rig requiring 120 lb to be properly inflated. It would seem the tire requiring lower pressure is experiencing less internal stress than a tire carrying more load, therefore its life should be longer.

Help, the sky is falling!

After a week of drought moderating rain in central Texas, the bedroom ceiling fabric is discolored, detached and drooping from a leaky rear air conditioner gasket. I would like to replace the glued on nubby carpet like material. I understand that this material is available in 4'x8' pieces, but I have no idea where to order it from. Any ideas? One possibility would be to use 2'x2' carpet tiles in a lite color as they would be easy to glue to the substrate. Think this would work? Any other ideas? Thanks!

RE: Changing the oil in a DP

If you drain into a plastic bin, line it with a garbage bag, much easier clean up.
