Silver City to Glenwood New Mexico...Is it doable?

Has anyone traveled on highway 180 from Silver City New Mexico to Glenwood New Mexico. We have a 33' Motor Home towing a Jeep Wrangler and are wondering if we could make that trip in our rig. Also wondering about BLM Lands or RV accomadations in or around Glenwood.

RE: Port Huron I-69 construction

We crossed at Port Huron on Saturday November 12th and within a mile were detoured down off a ramp and dragged all the way through downtown Port Huron before finally connecting with I-69 about 25 minutes later. This is not a clearly marked detour and would be easy to get lost. We were just lucky after making some blind guesses as to which way to go. You have to really pay close attention to small signs along the way and especially the last right hand turn that will lead you back to I-69. Somebody said something about construction around Lansing but we never did see any. We headed west on 94.

Walsenburg To Durango Colorado on Hghy 160??

We are thinking of taking highway 160 from Walsenburg Colorado through Alamosa and Pagosa Springs to the Durango & Cortez areas somewhere around October 20th. Will be driving a 33' Motor Home towing a Jeep Wrangler. Wondered if anyone has any thoughts on that route. Also interested in Boondocking spots, RV Parks, State Parks, etc to use as a home base for day trips. We are THE BAYFIELD BUNCH

RE: Cold night protection on Freezing Arizona nights?

We have a 33' Motor Home & have spent the past 5 winters in the Southwest with 3 of those in the high desert between Tombstone & Douglas Arizona. We ranch sit for other RV folks traveling further south & stay in our rig. Last winter was particularly brutal as far as cold goes & we were well below night time freezing for weeks at a time. That is not unusual for that part of the State in winter but last year was exceptionally cold. A lot of water pipes on ranches etc in the area burst but we were fine in the rig. We rarely use our furnace prefering to use a couple small electric heaters when plugged into shore power plus our propane Legacy Blue Flame heater. We use the Blue Flame exclusively while Boon Docking which is our preferred way of RVing. Other than unhooking the external water hose each night while ranch sitting, that is all we do & we simply use the internal water tank which we keep half to two thirds full. We are THE BAYFIELD BUNCH

RE: leaving the house empty in winter

We have been going away for 5 winters & up until this past winter we had no problems. We always leave a little heat on. Did all the right things as mentioned except for one because we never thought about it & it looks like nobody else in this thread has thought of it either. We lost all the plants in our sunroom & our mobile came very close to freezing up solid. Luckily we have a fellow check the house a couple times a week & he caught the deep freeze just in time before any serious damage was done. And why did we lose both our heat sources? DEAD BATTERIES!!!! Our electric furnace died because of dead batteries in the thermosta. Be sure to put a fresh set of batts in your thermostat before leaving. Unbeknownst to us there were also batteries inside the free standing gas stove & those are the one's that failed & led to the loss of our house plants. We are THE BAYFIELD BUNCH

RE: Moving north too soon

We are currently overnighting west of Hazen Arkansas heading for Ontario Canada. We have been using this route for about five years now traveling back & forth to Arizona. Texarkana on I-40 to I-55 west of Memphis & head north. Turn right on I-57 heading up to Effingham. From there we usually pick up I-70 to Indianapolis & then #69 to Port Huron & Ontario. However I think we'll try a change this year & from Effinghan continue on 57 up to #80/90 & head east on that turnpike to #69 & head north from there. Indianapolis can be a total pain!! Phil, they had to lock them due to big leaks. so there is no water here at the moment. The host seemed a little frustrated but looking forward to the improvements. There is 3 rigs here today...

RE: Tuttle Creek BLM Campground, Lone Pine, Calif.

Just finished talking to the host. He said they are closing the campground for 2 months ( probably May & June ) They are going to level the sites, put an actual water system in, a dump station.... He too really dislikes the 5 speed bumps, the dumpster truck has just about had it with coming in to dump the trash. He asked me to put it in writing as many others have already done.

Tuttle Creek BLM Campground, Lone Pine, Calif.

Although this campground has a beautiful setting, we will not stay in it again. They paved the close to 1/2 mile road into the campground... then apparently had trouble with folks"speeding" in and out... so they put in 5 speed bumps... worse yet they are on an angle..which sets up a rocking motion in RV's. A bumpy ride in the toad as well everytime you go out to tour around. $5.00 per night ($2.50 with pass )... pit toilet, picnic table and firepit. All the water spigots have locks on them. Right across the road from the entrance there is free camping so that is where we will go next time. Kelly
