RE: route co.springs to grand junction,co

x3 to using 50. plan a stop in Gunnison if timing is right. It's a neat little town.

RE: West Yellowstone to Dubois Wy.

going through the park is best bet. I would go straight across from West Yellowstone to the junction of Canyon, Bridge Bay, etc. and go south from there, because going down through the Old Faithful area will likely be the most crowded road. of course, it's going to be slow going, 45 mph speed limit and maybe some traffic blocks from folks looking at eagles or bears or elk or bison or whatever. but not so bad once you get south of Bridge Bay. to answer your question re 3 1/2 hours. that sounds about right, maybe 4 1/2 hours. Togwotee Pass will slow you down some, too.

RE: What is your favorite pass in Colorado?

to paraphrase Will Rogers: I haven't seen a pass in CO that I didn't enjoy to the fullest.

RE: Monument Valley to Capital Reef Route

95 from Blanding up to Hanksville is a good road, traffic isn't heavy. it does drop down to the Colorado River and then climbs back up, but it isn't a steep grade, just a little curvy. After Hanksville, no problems.

RE: Teenager At Home and RVing

the problem isn't with her, but with her "friends" when they find out she's home alone. (did someone say par tay?) as good as kids are, their judgement is not dependable, and the braver they are, the more apt they are to doing something they think they can handle.

RE: 2-3 days in Western South Dakota....suggestions please

Hill City also has a neat little dinosaur museum with several T-rexes, and it's free (donations).

RE: Camp Site Locations

in Monument Valley, Gouldings RV park is the best bet. Get a reservation as it is a popular rv park. Near Grand Junction is the Colorado River State Park: http://parks.state.co.us/Parks/JamesMRobbColoradoRiver/Camping/FruitaSection/Pages/CampingFruitaSection.aspx Up in the Mt. Rushmore area, you have lots of rv parks. We like Custer State Park, very scenic, but make a reservation.

RE: On my way from oklahoma to yellowstone

At Gros Ventre campground, 7 miles north and east of Jackson, the campground runs alongside a small river that's popular with fishermen.

RE: Colorado Springs to Blanding UT

couldn't find 184 to Mancos. If you're going 285 60 160 to Mancos, yes, that is scenic...it crosses a pass, and is a pretty good route. the rest is fairly scenic, too.

RE: What is boondocking and how to do this.

as stated, boondocking is camping without a water source, dump station or elec hookups. you're on your own for water, waste and heating, cooling and cooking. so you need to pick your time of year. is it cool enough to sleep at night and not furnance hot during the day? is it freezing so your gas furnace runs all night? the fan will draw battery power. you can add more batteries. you can add some solar panels to your power supply. water must be conserved. you can take a "bath" with a half gallon of water if you need to. plan on one pot meals and use a lot of paper plates and plastic cups.. this will help you conserve washing dishes. you can partially boondock in a lot of national forests, BLM campgrounds, etc. that have water and maybe a dump station. they allow generators during the day..but not at night.

RE: Kansas City, Mo to Mount Rushmore, SD

highway 20 across NE is a pretty good state road, not a lot of traffic in the western half of the state. There's a walmart in chadron for stocking up before you get up into tourist country. and there's a very nice state park 7 miles south of town, with elec hookups, water and dump station. or, there's a state park in SD off 385 called Angostura..there's a north campground and a south. both are pretty nice campgrounds. for seeing mt rushmore, you can stay down in the Custer area. there are several rv parks in and near town, and there is a really nice state park, Custer State Park, about 2 miles east of town. lots of bison in the park and a beautiful scenic drive to mt rushmore called the Peter Norbeck scenic byway. 3 tunnels to go through and each of them frames mt. rushmore. and two pig tail curves. have fun.

RE: Boondocking in the Grand Staircase-Capitol Reef areas

There's Sunglow Campground near Bicknell, UT, just southeast of the little town. It's just a mile or two off 24, to the left if you're coming from Bicknell. South on 12, out of Torrey, there are several national forest campgrounds and looked to be several boondocking sites.

RE: Dallas,tx to colorado springs

I would take 287 to Lamar CO and 50 west to Pueblo, then north to CO Springs. If you prefer all interstate highway travel, take 20 west to El Paso, the north on I 25

RE: Campground Prices

we stay at state parks, national forest campgrounds and national parks. we also stay at little village rv parks or just plain parks, walmarts, rest stops, and flying j truck stops. for saving $$, you can alternate full hookups camping with dry camping or just water and a dump station.

RE: Rv Park Websites - Rates

I very seldom find an rv website that does not publish rates. when I do, I move on.

RE: giving a pill to a difficult dog

ours takes his allergy pills in a piece of hotdog. about half a weenie. he tends to gulp his food down, so the embedded pills go down with the meat. it that doesn't work, you could try smashing the pill to smithereens and them stick a slot in a weenie and put the pill dust in it and see if that goes down.

RE: Traveling pitfalls

from north oklahoma, go north to I-70 and then west to 385 and take that up to the Black Hills. It's a good road. At Sidney NE, there is a Cabela's if you like shopping with them. and they have a nice rv park, or you can park free in the truck lot. At Chadron, NE, 7 miles south of the town, is Chadron State Park, a very nice surprise in the prairies of NE, shady, scenic and hookups. Also, there is a walmart in chadron, last chance to stock up on stuff before going into tourist country. Going into the Black Hills, stop in or around Custer. There are numerous rv parks in the town area and there is Custer State Park a couple miles east of town. A very nice park, comparable to the national parks, with some very scenic drives, etc. When you leave, go west on 16 up to Moorcroft and I 90. Continue west on 16 across the Bighorn Mts. Several campgrounds along there but no hookups. At Ten Sleep, on the west side of the mts, there is a little rv park on the west side of town. Nice owners, well shaded. Bathrooms aren't the best, but you've got your own. From there, go on to Cody and into Yellowstone from there. If you can't get reservations in Yellowstone, you have some options, none of them perfect. Cody is too far away to use as base camp, but is worth a couple days of your time as there is a terrific western museum in town, Irma's Cafe downtown and the Chief Joseph scenic byway for a day trip up to Beartooth Pass.... all very scenic. You can cross the park to West Yellowstone and there are several rv parks there in or close to town. Just search this forum for yellowstone campgrounds, and you'll find plenty of reviews and info. We like staying at Henrys Lake State Park, about 15 miles south of West Yellowstone.
