RE: Can I tow ANYTHING with a 3500 lb hitch limit?

Generally 3500lbs is right at the max for a Front Wheel Drive vehicle. They are not really made for towing.
That being said. There are lots of popups you can tow.

RE: Lakewood Camping Resort

We are leaving Friday(tomorrow) morning for the long weekend. Yes, to MB on "black biker week". We have done it before with never seeing a problem where we were. We take all we need and stay right there in the cg. Everyone drive safely and let's wave if we see each other. Hwy 64,220,38 to 501 for me. I think we will be in the 1600 area near the beach area. Gold Chevy truck with a Trail Bay TT.
Taking 2 grand kids who are in early teens along with a friend of one.
Ain't us grand-parents great?? :)
gary
Hot as it is. We may go with y'all next year. Or atleast to a CG in a cooler place.
Have fun.
BTW. I have picked out a couple new TT, Now just to convince Shay.

RE: The very worse nightmare for the "weight police"?

If the trailer has 22.5" rims and adequate tires, I see no problems with that 32,500 pound trailer going down the road at 55 MPH! It looks like it expands out to be 14' wide.
Yes I would tow it with a dually ford, as long as it came with the factory option 250 HP Cummings in it. Yes the F-650 does come with that engine as a option.
Fred.
Ford never put a Cummings in anything. Probably never will.
Pretty sure some of the Ford CLT 9000s had Cummins, although, our's had a Cat.

RE: RV Parking City Ordnances

I think it's pretty damn sad when your told what you can and can't have or do on your own property. We have no such laws up here in NH, and if we did I'd sell out and move. I can understand street parking, but in your own driveway??
Give me a break !!!
Agree, Our's lives in the backyard, and moves to front for loading, It can sit there as long as I want it to. Any one conplains. I simple tell them. When you start helping make payments on the house. You can make suggestions to me where to park the RV. Till then. Go away.

RE: Lakewood Camping Resort

We just made reservations for mid-July at Lakewood, granddaughter very excited, me so-so. I really don't like all the crowds but I promised her last fall, anyway we always have fun
You will have a blast. IF you take enough groceries to be able to stay in the CG, and not go out. You can avoid most of the crowds. Every thing you need is inside the CG, From the shows at the amphitheater, to mini golf, and yes even ice cream.
Take her bike. She can ride for days.. there is no way not to enjoy the beach.

RE: RV Parking City Ordnances

I live in Titusville, Fl, and was recently informed, on separate occasions, by the city police and the city code enforcement officer that my RV cannot be parked on a city street any longer than 2 hours. Apparently I also have an anonymous neighbor reporting me whenever I go past those 2 hours. It does take us longer than that to load up for a trip so we have resorted to a pre-load activity the day before departure and then "top-off" the morning of. The code enforcement officer was sympathetic and did say there was talk of the city readdressing this duration. Meanwhile I'm on the clock! Is this the definition of an RV unfriendly city? What have others encountered?
Crank it up, Drive it around the block, 2 more hours.

RE: Wrong Size Tires????

Sorry to disagree. IF the tire size was so important to you. You should have made sure of the size befor you towed it off. Now that you have accepted the TT. While it would be nice of them to change the tires, They are under no obligation to do so.
The brochure, and TT do not always match, because the one listed in the brochure may be a slightly different configuration. I was looking at one yeaterday, that acooring to the brochure, had a skylite in the shower. The one I was in did not.

RE: wieght dist.hitch?

No. A WDH just transferres the weight that is already on the tongue. It can't add to it. The only way to get weight off the back and to the front. Is to move stuff from the back to the front of the trailer.

RE: How long is too long? re: length of TT

What is your TV, that is your limiting factor??
No TV yet, just getting a feel for lengths. I'm notorious about posting about our TV situation, you've maybe read about it, lol. We are heading out to the Ford dealership this week and tossing the kids into a new F150 EcoBoost and seeing how it feels. Probably w/ the max tow/payload. Or we are thinking of buying a very used, 10-12 year old Excursion for towing only.
With those TV's you don't have a length issue because your going to be restricted to around 28' max, anyway.
The excursion option opens the max length up quite a bit.
Maybe so, but I wouldn't pull over a 28' TT with a 1/2 ton truck.
A man's just got to know his personal limitations.
However, You do know, there is no such thing as a 1/2 ton truck anymore. With GVWRs of 7000lbs and up. It is in no way a 1/2 ton truck. They are closer to somewhere between 3/4 ton, and 1 ton. Literally speaking. A 1/2 ton is onlt 1000lbs. Think about it.

How do you figure?
Is there a TT over 28' are you looking at that an F150 can pull within the numbers?
I'll take it. YES, There are plenty. Do some research. I'm looking at 4 right now.

Wonder how many people are towing trailers with dead batteries, and don't know it? Their E brakes won't work either.

RE: Tahoe vrs F150

I have had 3 5.4s with zero issues. With that being said there has been issues w spark plugs in the past and it is something that a potential buyer should be aware of I do believe it went past 02 to maybe 04 or 05. The 5.4 is bulletproof as someone said and a very good tow vehicle. Just like anything used do your homework. Look at F150forum.com there is endless info on a great truck. Good luck
It was supposed to be fixed before the new improved 04 5.4 came out.

RE: Tahoe vrs F150

Geez power down Ford boys. You expect to be heard when you look to bash GM. ..........On that subject, don't ya think every opinion is valid?
Again. there is a difference between fact, and opinion. It can be your opinion that Chevy is better than Ford. It can be an opinion thet Dodge is better.
But a factually correct statement is not an opinion. It's a fact.
And it is hard to power down a Ford. (opinion)

RE: Tahoe vrs F150

Lol. I guess a guy that owns a 1997 F-250 extended cab 7.3 diesel is "anti-Ford".
We get tired of the spark plug argument that went away many years ago. If you maintain a Ford truck according to the recommended intervals it is a non issue. Having owned 2 flawless 5.4L motors gives me some real life experience. Owning a 7.3 does not make one a Ford gas engine expert or fan.
Voicing one's opinion does not make one a hater.
Sorry everyone's opinion isn't the same as yours.
IF the problem has been corrected. It's no longer an opinion, but fact. Often facts are used to correct opinions, or statements from people who don't know problems have been fixed.

RE: How do you secure your breakaway cable to your hitch?

I don't connect it to the 'hitch' at all... ;)
I connect it to the bumper of my truck that is not connected to the hitch in any way.
The idea being that if the entire hitch fails, there goes your break away attachment point right along with the hitch!
My cable does not go thru the chains either... It's on it's own and does not drag. If your cable is too long, you can alter it to fit for your particular setup... How and when you want the break away brakes to come on is yet ANOTHER discussion that has 2 camps involved. There are those that want it to pull as soon as the trailer comes off the ball and there are those that don't want it to pull until after the trailer has completely left the rigs.. Chains and all... I prefer the later.. But that's not to say the other way is bad either... Just whatever you are comfortable with.. I hope I never have to test either theory! ;)
That's just what I do.. ;)
Mitch
What he said. I do as well.
