RE: Dempters or Dalton?

With the distance to AK, I think of it as a "one time only trip". So do it ALL. Arrive early and leave late.

RE: GRAND CANYON VISIT IN AUGUST?

If you go from the North rim to the South Rim on US 89 Alt Look for the Condors that nest at the bridge. There is a good parking area on the west side of the Navajo Bridge.

Time between Death Vallley and Yosemite ????

I winter on the Gulf Coast of AL/MS. I want to plan a trip to Death Valley, King Canyon, and Yosemite next year. From Yosemite I will travel to OR and WA. I think (?) the best time to visit Death Valley is February (?). I think (?) the best time to visit Yosemite (to see the water fall) in May (?).
My question, what to do between my visit to Death Valley and the visit to Yosemite?
I am a full-timer. I have all the time in the world to see the USA. But the price of Diesel is a factor in my travels. Any suggestion is welcome.

RE: Will the trailer drain my tow vehicle battery?

I THINK that my 2006 Dodge 2500 Ram Diesel is NOT hot all the time. I have tested it with a test light. However, I always unplug the trailer (and the GPS etc.)if I am stopping overnight with the trailer connected to the Ram. I sleep better not think about if it is hot or not.

RE: SEWER HOSE SUPPORT

I like to lay the hose on the ground -- so some water stays in the hose to act as a "vapor lock" to keep sewer gas from filling my holding tanks since I leave the drain valves open all the time. I think , . :h ,, that I get less smell when I flush the toilet this way.
I know some campers wait until the holding tank is 1/2 full or more to dump. I have done it both ways but my dump valve is hard to get to with the side out. Thus most of the time I open the valve (and leave it open) when I set up and the side is in. It depends on how long I am staying and the layout of the campsite.
There is no "right" or "wrong" way.

RE: Hoover Dam

For a few hours parking, I understand that there is still the "visitor" parking lot on the east side of the Dam that will take a RV. The parking garage on the West side may not take an RV

RE: Shocking experience

This is why I ALWAYS make sure that my jacks make good contact with the ground. I do not put plastic or wood under the jacks.

RE: HENSLEY IS HERE!!!!

Based on my experience the first few times you hitch you won't want young children within earshot. Hang in there though, with a little practice its a piece-o-cake.
There are LOTS of hints on how to hitch up. My best on. Do NOT turn the steering wheel the last 6 feet you back up -- The stinger will NOT go in at an angle.

RE: Slide moves while traveling

My slide has two switches. One moves the slide in and out. The other (I think ?) is a "slide override switch" that should be left ON at all times except when manual moving the slide. I think it acts as a "brake" to keep the slide from moving while traveling.

RE: Theodore Roosevelt National park campgrounds

There is a North and South TR NP. The South get more visitors, but the North is more interesting (?). Lots of spaces in mid-August 2010 at either park.

RE: Top Three!

1. Have an exit plan if you wish to quit FTing in the future.
2. Change ALL your plans (including # 1) if you feel like it.
3. Get a good GPS that you know how to use. It is hard to turn around a 60 foot rig because you took the wrong road. However, the wrong road may lead to an new adventure. -- Remember # 2

RE: Hand held electric drill for jacks

I have found that if you have a "high-speed" drill (I use a 110 Volt drill) it will (after a while) shear off the retainer pin on the jack's threaded rod. It has happen to me 4 time. I replaced the retainer pin with a larger - stronger pin. I have also use a battery powered impact wrench.
Now I have returned to manually lowering and raising -- I need the "work-out".
