RE: Do You Disconnect The Battery

Yes Markiemark32, the converter in your camper has a battery charger built into it, some chargers are fancier than others, so if you have a lower grade type of charger it can over charge the battery and make the battery water level go down. If you leave your camper pluged in at home for an extended time you should check the water (acid) level from time to time. You do not want the tops of the battery plates to be exposed, when the battery is low add DISTILLED water until the surface of the water in the cell stops looking flat, that is the surface looks curved because it touching the bottom of the fill port.

RE: What would you tow it with?

Rambling Yorkie, you can get the EcoBoost F150 Crewcab with the Heavy Payload Package. This adds 1000 pounds of payload to the F150. We have had our longbed Heavy Payload for 7 years and love it! The EcoBoost turbo F150 would help in the Rocky Mtns. I know my F150 pulling 8200 lbs was not happy above 5000 feet. In the Mtns high altitude, thin air, = less horse power. The fix is TURBO CHARGER. Happy camping

RE: Busy day, mods completed.

Congrats on your jack. I painted a warning line on the tube. I think that a "Flip-Jack" mod is coming soon.

RE: THE HEAVY DUTY F150 HAS ARRIVED - First report ...

The XLT 7 lug aluminum wheels will work, or ebay sells the plastic chrome "skins" hub cap that will fit over the 7 lug wheels. My friend has the "skins" on his truck and they still look good after 5 years.

RE: THE HEAVY DUTY F150 HAS ARRIVED - First report ...

The answer to the TIRE RATING being over the RAWR is simple as I found out with my 2005 8200LBS GVWR Heavy Payload 4X2 F150, my truck orginally came with General brand "D" rated tires. The "D" rating is a rare size in a 17 inch rim. Ford upgraded to the "E" rated tires (much larger selection) from the factory and kept the PSI inflation the same as the 65 max PSI "D" rated tires, the heavier "E" rated tires will carry the light 4800 lbs at 60 psi because that all the air you need. I am currently using "E" rated tires at 70 psi rear and 60 psi front. My TT tounge weight is 1000 lbs and the truck and tires seem to take the load well. My tire payload door sticker rating is 2422 LBS. I have the factory 10.25 4.10 rear end. READ GAS HOG, we get approx 11.5 MPG in winter and 13 MPG in summer (local driving) running EMPTY. 8 MPG pulling the TT. I am keeping a close eye on the EcoBoost trucks, I think its a good combo. Happy Camping

RE: Help with a smoked roof vent cover....

I am glad you got a smoke colored lid. I wanted to put in a X2 for the "Maxx air II" vent cover, protects the new cover from sun and hail. Eazy install, no holes in the roof, keeps out rain in all but the hardest rain storms.

RE: Newb Question - Bottle Jack for Leveling?? (Long Story)

X2 on using boards or lynx levelers, I use a couple of bottle jacks in the center under the spring equilzer take the bounce out of the center of the trailer, just a touch, not jacking it up.

RE: running off a 20 amp circuit at my house

Use a good adapter between your RV cord and heavy duty extention cord, check it from time to time for heat. Use common sense when using the A/C, like keeping the lighting to only whats needed, fridge on gas and water heater on gas. This should work fine, the weakest link is the cord adapter. I use a "Kill-a-watt" plug in meter to keep track of my voltage. Have a nice visit!

RE: Total noob question regarding tow capacity

PBR Streetgang, does your truck have a transmission cooler? All automatics have a cooler built into the radiator, that is not enough! To pull a trailer you need a larger tranny cooler mounted in front of the radiator. Your truck should already have this, check it out, and make sure you have one. Good luck and happy camping.

RE: Sweet! Just installed a new electric jack

I have a refurbed UltraFab 3000 lbs unit, we love it! I have read many people complaining about water making its way inside the head, so I also bought the UltraFab softcover for $10, 5 years old and still cranking strong! The UltraFab is a good unit, BUT a pin between the motor and drive can break if the unit is driven full travel to its stops, these units DO NOT have a LIMIT SWITCH. This special pin is available from UltraFab.

RE: Alternate to carrying guns while RVing

Wasp spray is a nerve agent, DO NOT USE ON DOGS! A small air horn works wonders on dogs.

RE: What tire pressure would you run ?

50 PSI. The tires need all the air they can get to help hold there shape when cornering. The OP's tire label faded in the sun, my friend's KZ TT has done the same. Good luck and happy camping.

RE: Do you store your TT level?

Slightly nose high, when stored under the carport and the same when camping, the way that Jayco made the roof I will have two puddles up near the front seam and trim when level, this is not much of a tilt, maybe half a bubble. X2 on the front down spouts will drip across my forward storage doors. I think that excessive tilt is a bad idea, instead of the water draining straight down and dripping off, it may run sideways and leak past seams that normally keep water out when vertical. (Slides??? Doorway???)

RE: St. Augistine Florida

Another plus about North Beach, lots of greenery between sites, NOT a camper parking lot. My son and his friend loved the pool. We also did the Pub crawl guided walking tour through old St Augustine, five pubs later we had learned a lot of neat history and had a great time.

RE: Commodore Trailer tires FROM NTB

I switched to Maxxis after 3 GY Marithons failed on the same trip, 98 degree heat killed them. All three had a large bulge in the tread. I check my tire pressure at the start of each day I travel. I was lucky not to have a blowout. Now is a great time to replace the valve stems, delete the rubber ones and get the STEEL valve stems. Steel is alot easier to check the air pressure on with out bending the stem over and maybe causing the leak that you are trying to avoid by checking the air pressure in the first place. Balance the trailer tires, unless you only do very short trips with no highway travel.

RE: St. Augistine Florida

North Beach Camp resort, is very nice. It has room for all sizes of rigs. We spent a spring break there in 2009. At first they said it was sold out, but the lady said call back every day someone will cancel, it worked out great. St. Augustine has a lot of history, we did the Fort, and so many other things including the lighthouse haunted tour. Skip the fountain of youth, it must be broken, it didn't work:(.

Great idea! Thanks for the pics. I would like to mount my handle on the outside, that way i could just push the handle and flush the inside of my camper clean! Happy Camping

I think RoyB has a good idea with the backer board, but I say DO screw into the studs too.

RE: Mt Rushmore in early July

Have a great time, We went on our Black Hills/Yellowstone trip in 2008. It was well worth the trip even at the high gas prices. We stopped at the Rafter J Bar Ranch in the black hills of SD, it is located in the center of many attractions. While we were at the Rafter J for three days, we visited, 1. Mt Rushmore 2. Crazy Horse 3. rode on the 1880 Steam train 4. Custer State park 5.Wind Cave 6. Alpine Slide 7. We Drove the Needles Hwy loop, (counter clockwise) A must do! Don't bring the TT, five SMALL tunnels, some that look out onto Mt Rushmore in the distance. 8. Sylvan Lake, (The second National Treasure movie was filmed there) A good place to stop and have lunch, and take the paddle boats or a short hike around the lake. We loved the Black Hills, We are from the Very ___Flat___ part of the Midwest, so any hill, bump, or a piece of rock that sticks out of the ground is a marvel to us! Happy Camping!
