'02 Chevy 2500HD 8.1L ??'s

Considering a 2002 2500HD w/8.1L, Allison 5spd, 3.73 axles. This is an extended cab short box. Has aboot 83K miles. I currently have a '99 K2500 Suburban w/4.10 axles. What are the things to look out for, or what are the past problems these may have had? Memory serves me (poorly nowdays) that there has been some engine problems or noise?? Also familiar with the factory hitch problems, don't thing my Jayco at 8100# max would be a big problem. Just curious what others have seen overall. Did a search with the wonderful "advanced search", with very "retarded" findings!!! Thanks, Gerry

RE: water tank capacity increase

Just finished installing a new 30 gal tank inside the trailer under the jackknife sofa. We never have used the area under the sofa for anything due to it being somewhat hard to access. Have to pull the sofa halfway out and then lift the lower valance to get anything in or out. The wife had nothing but trouble with doing that!! Decided on that location since putting another tank forward of the main tank would be too far forward and add too much tongue weight IMO, and behind the main tank is the slide mechanism. So,--- inside worked out very well. Also considered replacing the main tank with a larger one. But prices are nothing short of ridiculous for most new tanks. This one was only around $75 including freight from EPrey. Originally I had aboot 32 gals of fresh capacity, now have aboot 58 to 60 at max fill. Since we have 32.5 gals in each of the holding tanks, should be just fine!! Both tanks fill from the same intake, main tank will fill first (or faster), and can shut off the lower vents (overflow) when full and only use main tank for shorter trips. Both tanks are vented to the high point. The aux tank feeds the fill pipe of the main tank and the pump only draws off the orig spot under the trailer. Probably have added some tongue weight when using both tanks, but since the aux is almost directly above the main tank, not nearly as much as if it was forward of it. Gonna have to do a weight check here soon. Couple of pics with the sofa out of the way: http://img816.imageshack.us/img816/641/sam0278j.th.jpg http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/7964/sam0279t.th.jpg

RE: Installing a bathroom vent / fan

Suggest contacting the trailer mfg, and finding out if the roof is already "roughed in" for a vent. A lot of them are. Then you only need to find the joists and cross supports and cut!! And, yes, if not roughed in, you should add to the framing to make a "box" for the vent.

RE: aditional fresh water tank - build your own?

Here's 30 gallons for a fair price, plus no shipping charges!! 4 of those blue jugs ends up being almost the same price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RV-camper-trailer-30-GALLON-FRESH-WATER-TANK-NEW-FDA-approved-free-shipping-/370586311625?pt=Motors_RV_Trailer_Camper_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item5648aa5bc9 Other sizes are also available at varying prices. Should be easy enough to fit into the pickup bed.

RE: Jayco Schematics & prints

After reading all the positive comments aboot acquiring info from Jayco, I guess I'll have to try again to request some schematics. Like "ExRocketScientist" I had mucho problems with them when asking about 2 areas of my 2010. Asked whether there was blocking for a roof vent in the bedroom area, and if they would send such prints to help with installation, and was flatly told that if it did not come with a vent there, there would be no prep inside the roof for installing one. Guess what, there IS proper blocking in the ceiling for a vent!!! Also asked for diagrams or "blueprints" of the FW tank and water lines, since mine has a full under belly, and had a leak when full. Nope, they would not do that for me until the trailer was out of warranty!!! SO, if they have changed their attitude and/or customer service personnel, I will try them again for more info for another project coming up. Overall, I have had no other problems when interacting with Jayco on some minor issues, but always wondered why they did not want to help in some areas as many members had touted in the past.

RE: Occasional water pump turn-ons?

I have had the same problem recurring every so often during the camping year. What I have found is that due to the hardness of our water at the house (always dry camp, no hookups) there are solids that build up in the check valves of the pump. Our TT is only 18mos old, and I have cleaned the pump valves 2 times now. Definitely no leaks, have an accumulator, and have watched water slowly back up in the winterization line after closing off the tank line and opening the bottle line. Also seems to be more prevalent in colder weather, which may be due to the check valves being stiffer then?? Hasn't been a big enough problem that I want to drag the trailer into a dealer under warranty. Maybe though before June!!!

RE: Jayco

Just gotta love all the "positive" input from others!!! 2 pages and only a few who actually own or can comment constructively on Jayco's. We just need to get the bad info out there, tires, frames, warranty?? For the record to those who don't know, Jayco has a 2 year full coverage warranty. Tires, well, that IS up to the mfg or frame people to choose. If you aren't in love with the tires on the one you plan to buy, deal with the seller or replace them when you buy the trailer. Frames, well, I haven't heard of any major frame problems on many standard trailers. Lights and Ultralights, yes, more so. But I don't lay awake at night worrying about such things. You could be hit head on by a drunk on your first trip and there is no way of knowing or preventing that if it were to happen. Stop the incessant pre-doom comments. 'Nuff said, now hopefully some other Jayco owners, either lovers or haters, will post some useable info for the original poster.

RE: Jayco

We have a 2010 Jayco 24FBS, front queen, large rear bath, small slide w/dinette, and dinette is adequate for 6 footers!! Good trailer, but not much better built than our previous '04 Pioneer 19T4. Some areas are better, others are equal, and a few are lesser!! But there are many features that made us upgrade, one being the slide, and the counter area. This TT is "called" a 24, but is approx 27 feet overall. It doesn't seem too large, and tows great behind our old Suburban. The new models have more fresh water capacity, but they did not upgrade the holding tank capacities. Trailer has great ground clearance, and plenty of storage inside and out. Not a lot of window area, but is comfortable down to the low 20's out in the forests where we camp. Bigger windows, more heat loss! Decide on the type of floor plan you want, then go and pick one. I would buy another Jayco if we ever decide to go newer, but I would have bought a new Pioneer if Fleetwood had continued to make them the way they did in '04!!!!

RE: Thread Removed

Surprisingly, the thread went on for 4 pages!! Usually, a gun oriented thread will be "moderated" fairly quickly. They must have been out of town!! Any one want to bet on how long this one goes before oblivion???

RE: 2011 Starcraft Autumn Ridge 278BH

FYI, the "Autumn Ridge" models are the same as the JayFlight models. There is another series that is equivalent to the Eagle.

Amazing, Stupendous, Unbelievable!!

It has been ONE WHOLE WEEK since anyone (both proponents and opponents) have had anything to say on the CPE 2000 thread!! I for one want to thank you all for letting the poor unit rest for awhile!! Although I'm sure it won't last long. Mine is still working just like it should, able to power anything that is within its capabilities, and not being asked to do more than it can. Don'cha just love it!! Gerry

RE: Was your new truck transported by train?

I was a fireman on the Milwaukee Road in the '60s, and the Mpls yard was right next to the auto yard. The railcars weren't covered then, and you could watch the whole unloading from the first car to the last!! I can't remember how many railcars were in the rows, but it was a good amount and a long drive for the last auto. They haven't changed the way the unload!! What was even more amazing (scary!!) was the vehicles that had to be driven off backwards. Some of those drivers could go almost as fast in reverse as forward when unloading!!! AND, yes, there were many "occurances".

RE: Alaska Inside Passage - spring or fall

Our preference has been spring to early summer, the more snow on the peaks makes it more picturesque!! But, the weather can be cooler and wetter. We have been on cruises in late May and mid-Sept. Either season was super, but have differences as already mentioned. Weather is a******shoot most of the year.
