RE: Tire age

I think this is the ABC tire reportrefered to earlier. No national law that I could find but some states and counties have put in their own for selling old tires.

RE: CO2 detectors.

This LP/CO alarm clicky should take you to a go-rv catalog. Pricing may be set for my area but if you go to go-rv and enter your location you can get your area pricing.

RE: Fix & Keep or Trade for New

Only the P2002 code existed after the work was done, but they reprogrammed the PCM.
First off - if its still throwing a code, the work ain't "done".
Looks like a plugged up DPF. A plugged exhaust runs hot. The 2 other codes are exhaust temp related: coincidence?
I have seen plugged catalytic converters get hot enough they glowed red.

RE: CO2 detectors.

My LP detector has timed out as well. Also, an error with the sink caused it to have water running through & no longer works. I noticed there is now an affordable LP/CO detector combo available that fits in the same slot as the old LP one. I will be getting it once the 5th comes out of storage.

RE: Thanks everyone

Caring about your job helps, even if (or especially if) you don't like it. It already sounds like you are the type to take pride in doing a good job.
I don't know about tips as I only had 1 janitorial job for about 6 months, but I will say strongly - make sure you know the effects of any chemicals you use and take the recommended safety precautions. They can have serious health effects both short term and long term if handled improperly.

RE: Crossing with Bear Spray Onboard

Ditto. Protection from wild animals is OK, protection from people is not. If they ask its purpose, specify protection from wild animals.
As a side note, it is actually mandatory for hikers to carry some in certain areas of Banff, as well as to travel in groups.

RE: I saw one today! I couldn't believe it!

my family had a s-10 with a 4 popper drove it even after the cab fell down over the frame
I had that too.:o Jacked it up and hammered a 4x4 block under the cab mount. Had to put my shoulder under the door frame and lift while pulling the lever to get the hood to pop. Ontario uses a lot of salt on the roads in winter: truck just rotted away.

RE: Lube on Lug Studs

No who remembers the old Chrysler products up through the late 60's that had left hand threads on one side of the car and right hand threads on the other side!! Stud had a "L" or "R" stamped on the end of the stud.
Wow, I remember those. I think they might have used them past the late 60's 'cause I replaced some stripped ones after college and the car wasn't quite that old.
I don't lube lug nuts. Never have.

RE: Are We Crazy?

I have been camping in small trailers where the table was a bed for 2, the sofa folded into a bed for 2 and the cupboard above it folded into a bed for 1. We had 5 people in it. Look at the size of some older homes where people raised 6 to 8 kids. Don't let other people dictate how much space you need.
My current 5th may be a little large for our needs but came at a good price.
The only thing I would suggest is getting one with a tub. Much easier with kids. An outside shower helps too, until my 4 year old ran off yelling "NAKED GIRL, NAKED GIRL!"

RE: kicked out, ticket while boondocking

There are rules in place in Ontario for camping on crown land (the local term for public land). The local MNR is your best source for this information. They will know about any restrictions and may even know of a few good spots. Generally free for Ontario residences with maximum stays. Enforcement varies by area popularity and behavior of campers.

RE: Some Numbers to share with you

Wow, that's a lot of applications. Good for you, keep trying. I eventually had to move to find decent work. I had no house, wife or kids tying me to one location which made it much easier. I am an Albertan now with a wife and 2 beautiful girls. Haven't been able to bring myself to buy a cowboy hat though.;)
When the local mines shut down, my father was in his 50's, had 3 kids in school (me in college, 2 sisters in high school), our house was paid for but worth next to nothing and he had worked in the mine for most of his life. All the other mines in the province suddenly had thousands of applications. Luckily his severance included "time" so he had enough years in to qualify for for early retirement.
The problem with the level of rejection many are experiencing looking for work is people try less and less until they give up all together. I saw it in my home town when the mines shut down. A few years later when Ontario implemented "workfare" where able bodied people were required to work with non-profit and charitable organizations in order to get welfare. Our local snowmobile club had a work crew for a few weeks cutting and maintaining trails. A few months afterwards, all but two had found work again, one had had a temp job and the other joined the military. They were grateful for the program because it really improved their self worth and got them motivated again. They didn't even realize that they had become that depressed.

The problem with RVing

For the past several years all our vacations have been RVing. Prior to that it was just me, often for hunting trips. I need to take a non-vacation plane trip to Ontario this week but I have no luggage. All I have is a hiking backpack and some old duffle bags. Heck, when we go swimming we usually just shove our stuff into one of the kids school backpacks.
Luckily the in-laws have some they will let me use.
So I was just wondering how many others are in the same boat?

RE: Blanket Reprimands

A few years ago my department was getting a fair bit of those even though everyone knew who was the problem (one of the managers kids on a different shift). They claimed they weren't sure who was responsible. I eventually convinced them to slightly alter their stamps to include the shift the product was made on. They still didn't do anything about him but at least the blanked reprimands stopped.
By the way, convincing management to do something generally involves mentioning something in a way that they think they thought of it themselves.

RE: Type of gasoline for small engines?

I have been out of the industry for a few years but I have seen service bulletins from Husqvarna regarding places where alcohol free gas was not available. It involves removing the tamper proof covers on the high speed jet and enriching the mixture to obtain a lower peak RPM.

RE: Cleaning a spark arrester?

What is it on?
Where is it?
Why do I need to clean it?
Usually carbon build up from incomplete combustion, particularity on 2-stroke engines. Poor quality mix oil and incorrect mixtures mostly. Once the screen starts getting plugged, power drops off. May idle, won't rev up. Some people remove the screen which creates a fire hazard and doesn't eliminate the problem; only changes its location. I have seen exhaust ports almost completely plugged off with only a pin hole remaining. If this carbon plug breaks apart while running it can take out the piston.

RE: The one specific suggestion you would make to RV makers...

Please NO MIRRORS, I know my MH is small, putting mirrors up inside is not fooling me that it is bigger. They are ugly.
Strange. All the mirrors I look into look GREAT! :B
5ths are getting taller to fit the trucks that are getting taller but manufacturers insist on a 3-step entrance. These can be quite steep and difficult for young kids or people with bad knees.

RE: Fellow campers are so great!

Once while traveling east we parked beside a young lady and her dog who were tent camping while traveling in small car, heading west for work. She was having a difficult time getting a campfire started with the oversize wet logs from the campground. We gave her some dry wood and kindling, helped getting the fire going and I chopped her wet logs to a manageable size. I thought she just wanted a nice campfire but it turns out she needed it to cook her supper. She was very appreciative. It made me feel good to.

RE: Frank Spence

I am sorry to hear that. We never met but I am from Elliot Lake originally. My mother met him and purchased one of their books as a gift for me, which I quite enjoyed. I didn't realize he was even a member on this forum but a quick search of his posts show that we posted on many of the same threads.
My condolences to his family.
