RE: Leftover meatloaf idea!

I always make a large meatloaf 3-4 lb. It freezes so well that I can have a sandwich or dinner in minutes with the microwave. I just wrap portions in alum foil tightly and have no freezer burn.
I did something different with my last one. Instead of adding chopped raw onions I saulted the onion in butter then added to the mix. It was awesome! The flavor went through the loaf and wasn't course tasting as before. I've tried the soup mix but this really works.
I LOVE meatloaf!

RE: Leaking Exhaust Manifolds

My 1989 Southwind 454 GM has two piece exhaust manifolds, a front piece and back piece that connect by what looks like a slip joint. This keeps them from warping. GM manual discribes them as improved design.
When I got it 2 1/2 years ago it had an exhaust leak, it was the doughnut between the manifold and pipe.
If you search on here the Fords have problems with the head breaking at the rear bolt and have to be replaced. Some tried drilling deeper and hit water jackets.

RE: reversed polarity on plug?

It should be as simple as reversing the black and white wire on the plug. Probably just need a screwdriver to do it.

RE: 454 quadrabog?

Just another wild guess, take the gas cap loose, you might have a tank venting problem. ???

RE: Scary situation--help?

The boot area might be some kind of flex joint or U joints. They might have "wrapped up" somehow and then straighten back out. ???

RE: Winne-will not start

The oil pressure switch that turns on the fuel pump when there is pressure is known to fail on GM boat engines. I had to change the one on my 4.3. With the boat engines the wires to the switch can be jumped with a paper clip. It should be the same switch. Mine was located at the left rear of the block above the pan.
If there was a problem with the ECM it would not run on starting fluid.

RE: Winne-will not start

Have someone listen at the fuel tank and try turning the key on an off. There is a relay for the fuel pump that runs pump momentarily for starting. After you have oil pressure pump stays on. Could be pump or relay or relay circuit.

RE: Front Brakes - Ford F-53

Take the old pads/shoes to NAPA and have them match them up. A good store can do it and they are usually priced competitively.

RE: Spartan Ball Joint Problems

I think the term for what you have is "Trunnion". It was used long before ball joints were invented.

RE: Jump start stored rig

Simplest way would be to start the generator and let it bring up the batteries. The gen takes a lot less amperage for starting.
Also if you only have some of those "TOY" jumper cables that's probably your only option.
Even with the welding cable jumper cables that I have they need to be connected to a running engine for a few minutes to jump diesels.

RE: Class A grab rail

I saw them a few days ago at Lowes in the bath accessories section. I'm sure H D has them too. These are good sturdy ones not just for decoration.

RE: Metric or SAE (So9cket Set)

I say both, having them and not needing them is always better than needing them and not having them!
I bought a 3/4" set at Sams when they first came to town in the low 80's for $39.00. I used them for over 20 years working on semi tractors and trailers from a service truck. I only broke one socket in all that time, 1 5/16" IIRC. I used it the most changing axle radius rods on semi trailers, a bunch of them!
You should be able to buy both at Harbor Freight for under $100. As stated, get the 1/2" to 3/4" adapter, very handy to have.

RE: DexterTag Axle Brake rebuild problem

Have you tried NAPA? Find the old parts guy who knows how to look things up in the books not the computer puncher!
I've changed linings on semis where we had to either bolt the new ones on or rivet them.
I watched a manager that I didn't get along with trying to find 10" wide linings for a semi trailer (they were called moutain brakes). He tried for 3 days! I didn't tell him it had 4" and 6" side by side on the same shoe. But then he always knew it all.

RE: Towing VW Bus?

I had a 1958 VW Transporter as the bus was called, in 1968 when I was in Germany in the ARMY. Went to the German Grand Prix in 1969 then to Luxembourg and Belgium and lived in it for a week.
I modified the intake manifold and put two carburetors on it, gave it an extra 10 mph and climbed hills much better!
Any of them with the old style "H" beam front axle are very easy to get a tow bar for that mounts to the axle with just two pins. I've towed a bunch of stick shift VW's with that style tow bar with no problems.
The bus has gear reductions on the outside of transaxle axle but they should still tow OK.

RE: Cylinder Re-Pack Kit for Level Best?

Find a local hydraulics shop, many of the cylinder components are generic.
I just repacked two cylinders on a 20 year old Bobcat Drive on Trencher. I took in old parts and they matched them up.
Did the same for a 50 year old Clark Forklift. Repacked two tilt cylinders.
They were probably cheaper too.

RE: fuel filter and water/fuel filter change need changed soon

Glad you got it done. When all else fails check with an expert.
Drain the wrong filter, put it in a ziplock bag with some paper towels and give it to the next RVer you run into that can use it.
I love to find new homes for things that I can't use but still have value!

RE: Lug Nuts (Torque)

I worked on semi tractors and trailers for over 30 years, about a dozen different shops between two states, supervised 3 of those shops, many were national/international companies.
None of them had a torque wrench for the lug nuts on equipment!
I have changed hundreds of tires, even had to cut lug nuts off with a torch, repaced a lot of wheel studs.
A 1" impact will wring off studs and strip lug nuts in the wrong hands. It works best with a 1/2" hose and a 150-170psi compressor. A 1" impact is what the real world tire people use every day.
