Rookie Mistake, Left plug out of W/H

I took my travel trailer on a three day camp out, the first trip this summer since winterizing. I checked everything, well almost everything, and filled up my water tank as the camp had only power. No sewer or water was available. When I arrived I saw lime deposits all over the side of my trailer. I hit the pump switch and it sputtered. I discovered my problem was the missing W/H plug and I replaced it. I can't figure out why the water all drained out and how much lime was deposited outside the W/h. There were even small chunks of lime outside the W/h. Isn't the fresh water tank below the W/H? How could it drain out uphill? When I filled the tank after replacing the nylon plug, everything worked fine.

Charges for COE Camp Grounds

Do all COE Parks accept the Golden Age Passport? I'm headed to one this weekend, Devils Fork near Greers Ferry Lake in Arkansas, and I'm not sure. Post moved from TT Forum to RV Parks Forum Moderator - TT Forum

RE: OH Amish area campground suggestions

The last resort park we went to in the area had water so heavily chlorinated that we could not use it for anything. I wish I could remember the name of it. Better check the water before you camp.

RE: Walmart parking lots

I have used the Wal Mart Parking lots a few times in the past while driving through Texas. IN one instance during the Christmas season the experience was memorable. The local High School Band performed Christmas Carols by the front entrance and we could hear the music from our travel trailer at the lower end of the lot. In the other cases the Wal-Mart Parking Lots were used as a place to cruise around. Most of the locals owned pick ups with loud pipes and most of the men resembled Larry the CAble Guy. They would loop around the lot until the early morning hours. It made for a bad nights sleep. I'll select a camp ground if one is available rather than put up with the loud exhaust noise.

RE: change trailer tires from 14's to 15's ??

Keep us posted on how it works out. I have a 2008 Sunset Trail 27 RB and would like to make the switch. Thus far I haven't had any trouble with the stock tires and wheels. When I get ready to replace the tires it would be a good time to switch.

RE: Water Pressure Regulator

I cheated a few times and didn't put on the regulator because showering left the pressure so low. The stock regulators didn't work for me and then I found out Camping had a higher priced regulator that was stainless and allowed about ten more PSI than the cheap ones. Now I'm happy. The shower has enough psi to get the job done. I think it was about $20.

RE: What is the etiquette??

I'm sure the guy pulling in would have much rather been there and set up during daylight. He is most likely tired and miserable. He could have had any number problems that caused him to be late. He might be trying to make a destination with too little time and not enouth time off from work. Hearing the poor soul out there trying to set up makes me greatful I'm done and in the sack. I feel sorry for him. I should get up, go out and assist.

RE: Topsail Hill Preserve State Park

Some of the most fun we had at Top Sail was to drive down the highway to the nearby fish market and buy things to put on the BBQ. The owner will advise you what to buy. We also had fun driving up to Destin and eating at the Irish Pub. The gal working the camp store knows everything about the area and will guide you to the best spots. Go to her church on Sunday for the best entertainment in the area. Local musicians from the bars perform there and the place rocks out. Do the unconventional. After church they all go to a bar for lunch and more music.

RE: Should I have done something

It might be illegal but when I think of how many miles I've pulled my trailer with it not coming off, It might not be that unsafe. I look at it like people who don't wear a seat belt. I do wear a seat belt but is it my business to tell them what to do? HOw about kids riding in the back of a pick up. We all did it when we were kids but it is illegal in many states today.

RE: Outside shower location

I wish I could get rid of my outside shower. During the three years we have had the trailer we have never used it. I guess its great for washing off feet at the beach. I want to cap it off and suspect the supply lines are at the back of the trailer where the bathroom sink is located. Hey, maybe I could install two shut off valves and cut it off. Then the next owner could have it back if he/she wanted it.

Moaning and groaning while towing a TT.

When I make turns in parking lots I hear a lot of moaning and groaning from my travel trailer. It is a pull type with an equalizer hitch. I keep my ball greased and tire pressures up.

RE: Travel Trailer Questions?

When I was at the trailer show they had a couple of fast talking salesmen and one maintenance guy on hand. I managed to get the maintenance guy and talk to him about the trailers they were selling and learned a lot about the various units. When checking for quality, take one of the drawers out and look at how the drawer slides and other wood work was done, the stuff you can't normally see. You will be surprised. My Sunset Trail was beautiful when standing on the floor but when you got behind the scenes all the wood was split buy some screw up with a power drill setting the screws too hard. I had to replace nearly all the bracing.

RE: Sloppy Hitch Receiver

Hey Y'all, A friend of mine stopped by yesterday and we discussed the weld job. He is a retired iron worker with a welder. I will tighten up the fit with the weld and custom fit it to my receiver. Thanks for all the help.

RE: How to make a small septic tank.

Thanks, I thought a big plastic drum and maybe 20 foot of leach line would do the trick. If I go to the County I will be burried in red tape and it will cost ten times as much. I have very sandy soil.

How to make a small septic tank.

My home septic tank is quite a distance from where my trailer is parked. I only need to dump at home two or three times a year so I hate going to the trouble fo trenching all the way to the home tank. Have any of you built small boot leg tanks just for the RV? I doubt my field line would be more than 20 feet.

RE: Sloppy Hitch Receiver

I made it home yesterday with my use of duct tape forward and aft to tighten up the slop. It worked so I think my problem can either be solved by the Cabelas device or a couple of welds and a little work with a file. I checked everything else and it seems tight. The W D Hitch was put on by a pro. I didn't hear a clunk the entire 800 mile drive home. Inserting the duck tape hitch was a bear and pulling it off was worse. It was better than the clunk.

RE: Sloppy Hitch Receiver

I'm going to do a temporary fix the American way. I will use duck tape fore and aft to tighten up the fit and fix it the correct way when i get home, the Half inch hole and threads.

Sloppy Hitch Receiver

I'm towing a Crossroads, Sunset Trail 27RB with my 2008 Tundra with tow package. When I make stops I hear big clunks as the trailer comes forward. Upon examination I see the tow ball section that inserts into my receiver hitch on my truck is very sloppy. What can be done about this problem? The noise is irritating. I've thought about taking the male piece to the welding shop and having it built up in a couple of places to make it tighter. Or is their a unit that fits tighter?
