Utah Help Needed

Need advice on RV parks along I-70 in Utah please. We will be leaving Las Vegas in mid April and will be going north on I-15 to I-70 in Utah, and then east into Colorado. We usually like to travel about 300 miles or 5 hours per day. I have found places in Green River, but if you have advice for places west of there, I would appreciate it. Green River is a little farther than what I would like to travel in a day. We plan on just a overnight stay, but if the place is nice and there are attractions, we would stay longer. Thanks for your assistance.

RE: Rude customer service at Coach Net

We have Coach Net and I had to call them once when my truck's starter went out. My experience was very positive, she asked if we were safely off the road and then she got the information needed to dispatch a wrecker. I got lucky and the truck started once more so I called back to cancel the wrecker so we did not waste money. My experience was positive with Coach Net, sorry you had problems.

RE: I-40 In Oklahoma

Reconstruction of I-40 in Okla City, and I was just informed the new highway just opened and it is nice. We drove west from Okla City to Kingman, AZ and most of it was fine.

RE: Rant about New Mexico drivers!

Sorry you had problems in New Mexico, we drive through there every year without any issues I can think of. If you want a better opinion of New Mexico, drive in the Rio Grand Valley of Texas or the Houston area, then you will love New Mexico. Those are the meanest, most aggressive drivers we have dealt with.

RE: Not returning to the valley

I understand what you mean, if the weather is going to be bad, there are much better places to be. We experienced the same thing, so now we go to Las Vegas...much prettier and plenty to do.

RE: Lake Havasu City during Spring Break -- how bad?

Watch "Girls Gone Wild" and that will give you a pretty good idea how "bad" it gets.

RE: Mystery Sound!

Thanks for all the ideas, but the sound is above the refrigerator, the only vent up there is the refrigerator vent to the roof. The vent pipe from the kitchen sink is under the cabinet and it does not go to the roof, it has a screw on type valve. The water heater is on the opposite side of the rig a long way from the kitchen. There is no evidence of a water leak that I can find, so the expanding pipe theory seems to be the most likely since there are no water lines in the ceiling.

RE: Mystery Sound!

Is the sound coming from near a vent? The kitchen vent and fan is there.

RE: Any owners of RV resort sites here?

For us being able to purchase an RV lot was what pushed us over the edge in deciding to full time. We have two, one in the north and one in the south. We use them as home bases and travel from there. If you are considering buying it strictly from the point of view of saving money I am not sure that is the right way to go. They are a great place to hunker down in a place where you know your neighbours, doctors, dentists, golf course etc. For us it was worth it even from the monetary point of view as a nice upscale RV park with golf, Gym, tennis facilities will probably come in around at least 1000 bucks. Pretty easy to spend 800 to 1000 bucks a month on golf tennis and gym as well so 330 bucks a month for a top notch resort with unlimited golf (par 3) tennis and Gym made it worth while for us for our southern property. Many places allow you to rent your site privately and if the resort has a good name it is easy to get 1200 a month plus. if you are not into any of the above then you may need to rethink it a bit or buy into a place where they don't have those amenities as you will end up paying for them in your monthly condo fees. At some point it is still worthwhile to have your own place, decorated the way you like in a neighbourhood and gated community you are comfortable in. It hasn't slowed our travelling down and if anything we tend to come and go more often. You can find lots of sites out there for between 50,000 and 200,000 and like real estate anywhere, location location location and in the case of ownership RV resorts and country clubs, facilities and amenities play a huge part in the decision process. Some use the rent to offset their travelling costs while on the road but I don't think you could ever make enough from rent to justify an investment approach. Sales in our particular resort seem about or a little below average and prices seem off about 15- 20 percent from a few years back. Its real estate so expect ups and downs if you get into it. When we are done with the lifestyle we will sell our lots and RV and buy a condo. Who knows. We'll worry about it then. We have been in the full time RV lifestyle for about 9 years now and owned our RV lots for about 8 of those. It has been a great ride for us and we hope to keep it going for another 10 to 20 years. Good luck with your decision. Here are a few shots of our Northern and Southern home bases. It will give you an idea whats out there. Ours are quite humble compared to many out there. It's not for everyone but it may be right for you. http://www.johnandangela.ca/images/Outdoor%20Resort/dcp_8957.jpg http://www.johnandangela.ca/images/Outdoor%20Resort/dcp_0044.jpg http://www.johnandangela.ca/images/Site%201003%20ORPS/IMG_0454.jpg http://www.johnandangela.ca/images/2010/Outdoor%20Resorts%20Palm%20Springs%20Lot%201003%202011%20small/IMG_2205.jpg http://www.johnandangela.ca/images/Site%201003%20ORPS/IMG_3295.jpg Northern Property. http://www.johnandangela.ca/images/Swan_Lake/dcp_8401.jpg http://www.johnandangela.ca/images/Swan_Lake/IMG_3461.jpg http://www.johnandangela.ca/images/Swan_Lake/IMG_3448.jpg Beautiful place!! Mystery Sound!

We have a 2006 Keystone Everest and I often get this strange sound. Usually, when the grey tank for the galley gets to a high level, I hear a sound coming from the roof that sounds like water dripping. After I drain the tank, the sound stops. I know there are no water lines up there, so what would cause such a sound? But wait, there's more...now I hear the sound and the tank has been recently drained and I know it is at a low level.

RE: Rear Kitchen Bounce

Our rear kitchen also bounces, so we have learned just to take a few minutes and secure things better. We take all cokes, beer, etc out so if it explodes, and it has happened, we don't flood the refrigerator or floor. Milk and eggs are secured good and we rarely have any problems. Milk jugs with the screw on caps is better than the snap on caps. Obviously the condition of the roads you travel is a major factor, just take a few extra minutes and enjoy your travels...it's all good.

RE: New Orleans and SAFETY

With safety such a big question here, why would you want to go to New Orleans? Don't park here, don't park there, don't walk here at night, kind of takes the fun out of going.

RE: where to stay in dallas

Just off I-20 and Hwy 360 is Loyd Park, it is a wonderful park run by the city of Grand Prairie. Lots of trees, trails, a lake, and close to shopping, Six Flags, restaurants, etc.

RE: KOA Resort Fee

"Resort fees" charged by campgrounds are exactly the same thing as "documentation fees" at RV and car dealerships. It is simply a way to advertise a price that is a lie in hopes that the customer either won't notice or will just pay it because they are already there. This practice is deceitful and I will not patronize such an establishment under any circumstances. I would rather just stay in a department store parking lot or a rest stop somewhere. It isn't about the measly $5. It is about financially supporting a shady and unscrupulous business. Excellent point and I agree totally with you.

RE: KOA Resort Fee

I don't mind the $5.00 extra a night if the cg is nice, usually the so called resort is already exspensive so what's $5.00 more... Already expensive, so what's $5.00 more? Hard to agree with that statement. It would all be so much easier if they would just set the price and not mention the additional charges, that is what usually gets people upset. We don't want to pay for the playground or dog walk, that should be part of what sets the RV site rates. Keep it simple. It's $5.00 a night, what's the big deal and two KOA's I've been to a few times don't hide it they told me when I made my reservations. Once again it's $5.00, if that ruffles your feathers you do need to move on to Walmart, pretty sure there are no swings, pools, arcades in the parking lot. I'll gladly pay the $5.00 and enjoy everything they have to offer. Maybe you could design your own cg and for every activity there would be a different color wristband, me and my kids would have an arm full! Well abc, then it's "only" $2.00 for the street lights, $3.00 for use of the bathroom, $2.00 document fee for the receipt...when does it stop? If you are happy paying all those fees, then that is great...they appreciate your business. We have never stayed at Walmart, we support campgrounds, but have only stayed at a few KOA's that were reasonable with their rates.

RE: What exactly makes a RV park or campground a resort?

For us, a resort must be very clean, landscaped, pool, nice club house, etc. Check out "Bentsen Palm Village" in Mission,TX or "Rayford Crossing" in Houston,TX as fine examples.
