RE: New Pilot/flying J problem

We just got home from a 8500 mile snowbird trip and with very, VERY few exceptions we were able to beat Flying J/Pilot by any where from 5 to 22 cents a gallon on diesel. We are 68 feet long and have never had access problems at Murphy's anywhere. Because their diesel is always at the end pump(s), we may have to wait a minute or so for the lane to be clear, but on a 125 gal fill up, I'll wait. MUCH better than the stupid FJ policies that are inconsistent at best and the fuel desk attendants usually discourteous and surly.
John
My experience too. Some of the Murphy's Oil Stations are rather land-locked by their concrete curbing design, but I've had real good luck at them, and I always fill my fresh water supply there with my own hose.

RE: Spic & Span plus Bleach for Roof Cleaning?

The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser's would probably do well on the spots on the roof if they are bothering you that much. There is no bleach or any other chemical in them at all. They are made of melamine foam.
There's got to be something in those things. They clean pretty much anything. I use Dawn dishwashing liquid, but I may try the spic n span next time.Is Spic and Span recommended for interior fabric ceilings as well?
Anyone tried it?

RE: Some Numbers to share with you

I've been in a similar situation a few times -- but not for long. With a wife and new baby, I've picked strawberries in the field and gone door to door to sell them; worked as a Fuller Brush Salesman; bought hoagies by the dozens sold them "door to door" in college dormitories, fraternities, etc.
Work (and reward) is there if you're willing to hustle. That's enterprising! Today, many ppl aren't as hungry as we used to be when coming up. I made a job for myself as I found that was the easiest and quickest way to the larger dollars. Minimum wage to me was like giving up.

RE: Same money, older higher end coach or newer not as nice one

I would go for the high end every time. Like you said, in a DP, mileage is a non issue, but construction quality is.Absolutely!
High-end every time for me too. It beats the low end entry level stuff that many times is more money than the high grade used coaches.

We use paint thinner straight to cut the dirt/grease and any mildew stains. Works without hardly any scrubbing too!

RE: Michelins.. ouch!

Give me Michelins all day long and twice on Sunday. They ride the nicest and last the longest and seem to be pretty quiet. Got over a 90k outta of them on my old Sierra. Sometimes you do get what you pay for.
Talking to an otr driver at work, he had Doublecoin tires on his steer axle. He said they were his second pair...the first went over 100k (they went longer than the Michelins tney replaced), he had them capped, they have run ANOTHER 100k as drive tires. Needless to say, the current steer tires will be replaced with another pair of Doublecoins!
When you fork over twice as much for Michelins, you get HYPE!Michelins are hands down the best tire out there. I hear people that can't afford Michelins, spreading BS and HYPE about what they can afford. Usually a much less tire in every way.
What flavor is the KoolAid today, Joey? Do you prefer to get it by the 50-gallon drum or in bulk straight from the tanker?
When you fork over twice as much for Michelins, you get HYPE. After the way they reamed people stuck with exploding XRV's (combined with their "It must be your fault, because outr tires are perfect!" attitude, I will never give them one cent of my money under any circumstances.
And the guy with the DC steer tires: when he bought his first pair to replace the OE Michelins...Bandag wouldn't take the Michelins for capping. Only ~3 years old, they were starting to crack already!
You are comparing apples to oranges here which was pointed out earlier. Go ahead and buy what you want. A lot of us have had nothing but great experience with Michelins. My experience with them goes back some 30 years so you can say what you want about them it isn't going to change what I buy.Correct, Scott. I don't know what the kid's on, but it certainly isn't reality he's smoking. I've had excellent service from Michelin tires and Michelin company going back 40 years here. I don't think some people can afford the best tire going is my read on him. ;)

RE: Walmart batteries....

2 yrs ago I bought a chassis battery from Walmart. It was the MAXX 65N, which has a 3 yr replacement warranty. Went out yesterday to start the MH and the battery was dead. No lights, buzzer, anything. Checked the connections and they were good. I pulled the battery and brought it to Walmart, without the receipt which I seem to have lost. They put it on an analyzer/charger. It charged the battery and supposedly tested it under load. Once finished, it stated it had passed and was fully charged.
Drove back and put it in. Got lights, buzzer, etc. Turned the key and it made about a 1/2 turn and everything went dead again. Tried jumping the battery and it struggled, but finally turned over and started. Ran it a little bit, turned it off and it was still dead.
So, back to Walmart. The tech guy called the auto service manager and told him what happened. He said no problem, obviously it's no longer holding a charge so we'll replace it under warranty!! :B
Now that's customer service!!!As it should be!
I love the products and customer service at Walmart!
What's wrong with that???

RE: New Pilot/flying J problem

Since a lot of Walmart Supercenters with Murphy Oil stations sell both gas and diesel, at a lower price than FJ/Love's/Pilot, I haven't had to hassle with any of them for years now. Also, there are gricery store chains in many parts of the country that are also way lower than the truck stops on the Interstates. You just have to get on the business routes through cities and towns to find them off the Interstate highways. No discount cards needed either.

RE: Good news for Chrysler, looks like things are turning around

Give GM and Chrysler 7 years. By then their FICA score should be back to where they can qualify for the loans.Either that, or by then they will have outsourced all their operations overseas or Mexico to get away from the unions that busted them in the first place.

RE: General Motors issue

Hi all, I just have to rant for a few...and hopefully get some advice and/or info.
Here's the deal. I have an 05 Caddy that got NEW GENUINE GM rear shocks Feb 2011. The car is at a dealer right now and they tell me that one of the shocks has failed. The bad news... even though it is within the 12 month TIME warranty it is 4800 miles over the 12000 mileage warranty.
Ok...I get that. BUT...this is the same shock that goes on new vehicles off the line and it absolutely should NOT fail at 16836 miles!! The dealer tells me they can't do anything about it. They referred me to the GM 800 customer Svc line. I called and got a young lady in the PHILLIPINES who asked a number of irrelevant questions...designed to figure out a way to say no. This isn't my first rodeo. After much back and forth between me, the dealer and the GM in the Phillipines... the CSR decided that there was nothing they could do.
I told her that this was absolutely NOT acceptable and that I wanted to speak to someone in the UNITED STATES. She could not or would not give me US contact info. And..."she understands how I feel'. I told her that with all due respect...she had no idea how I felt. I told her that MY tax dollars went to BAIL OUT GM in THIS country and that ALL I was asking was for GM to man up and replace an obviouly defective GENUINE GM part!!!
As it stands right now... the Phillipine CSR is "reviewing my case" and will get back with me "within the day". Meanwhile... my car is at the dealership...I am renting a vehicle by the day and paying for it.
I am furious. I could have gotten 4 new shocks at a different shop for the price of 2 GENUINE GM parts and might have gotten more distance out of them.
If this is how GM is going to do things...I am done.
Ok... my blood pressure is down a bit. Anybody know how to get through to an AMERICAN at GM??
ctsI wouldn't own any GM vehicle ever again.
I was burnt by them in the 1970s on three vehicles; two Cadillacs and one Corvette that were all substandard quality. I won't be buying one again as far as I know I won't be. They lost me as a good paying customer in 1976.
I am now much happier with Lincoln and Ford products' quality from my experience.

RE: General Motors issue

Your not alone, Ford pulled a similar stunt with me when I had my turbo rebuilt under warranty. The new tech bulletin specified a larger drain hose be installed during the rebuild. Guess what? I got charged the $100 deductble because that Ford specified part wasn't listed as a warrantied item. So I paid $100 for a $30 part! The warranty clearly states that all hoses, clamps, etc attached to the turbo are covered. After several calls to the dealer and Ford customer service (what a waste of time that is) I,m still out the $$. Well, my next purchase won't be from Ford.Windshield wiper motor quit working at 44K miles. There was a campaign sent out on the prior year's motor assy. but not my year Ford truck.
New windshield wiper motor plus installation at Ford: $325.00
Some days you lose to the manufacturers.

RE: Was not aware that RV factory workers paid piecemeal v. hourly

Sounds like a good argument for buying a unit with 10K miles on it, like we did. By then most of the issues should have been found and fixed.True. For far less $$$ too!
My unit was 5K miles & less than (1) year old.
It was literally built in a "pit." One team of tradesmen work like ants as a team on one unit from start to finish in a pit. Pieces and components are shuttled to the team as the coach progresses. There were no teams of teemimg ants/tradesmen working the pits as I toured the plant. So, I don't know how many are on one team. When completed, it goes to the fiberglass gel pit for decals. Next, it goe to the water jet pit to see if it can withstand forced water from (5) directions and still hold out water. Then it's done. The company reported that QC money was debited from their future earnings if stuff was returned for warranty work deemed to be their fault. And, if not, the money was upped. Profit sharing to some extent.

RE: Full Time RV Residency?

When we began to fulltime we went with Escapees RV Club mail service and our residence then was Texas. Just before we bought a new rig we changed our "domicile" to South Dakota with Alternative Resources in Sioux Falls, SD. That way we paid 3% user tax on the RV in place of 6.5% in Texas.
It should be noted here that the regular sales tax in South Dakota is 6%. The state has a different rate on some things like RVs that is a "user tax". We actually lived in South Dakota during my working years.
1we didn't want to establish Florida residence because there was a tax on investment income. Texas and South Dakota do not have a state income tax.Tennessee has that investment income tax too. No Federal income tax in Tennessee.

RE: Full Time RV Residency?

When checking various states for low tax reasons, be sure and make sure your
Medical Insurance will work too, if you are under 65..
We were all set to go with either Texas or SD, but our Medical Insurance would have put a BIG dent in our expenses.. I was in the State pool and wife was with her company plan which she couldn't transfer..
Another big surprise for us, even thou our state has an Income Tax, it wouldn't have much effect on us either.. AND our state has no Sales Tax..
I know this will not help you with your state, but be sure and look at all the possibilies before making the leap to another state...What is your age? Is Oregon that cheap on their pool insurance, that you save overall living expenses by staying in Oregon? What is the monthly premium and coverages you have in that pool?
