RE: I broke all 8 studs clean off

Wow. Glad everyone is safe. Why did you load your TV on the flatbed as well? Was the tow driver unable to strap the 5er down to the tow trailer securely?

RE: My "Level" Best!

To each his own. I camp to relax, not to spend gobs of time trying to level my trailer. If anything I try to slightly lean to the drivers side so that condensation from the AC doesn't drip on the awning side, making a puddle.

Hey MPI_Mallard,
I can't add anything to what others have mentioned, but did want to comment on your sweet looking rig. I love how the truck matches the 5er. Happy trails...

RE: Just picked up - Dealer experience

Hey DwnSth, I'm in your area. Would you mind mentioning the dealer on this forum? If not, PM me the dealers name. It's time that we as consumers let the automobile and RV manufacturers that we are the ones calling the shots. I'll be certain to let everyone I camp with know that "x" dealer has a bad reputation for service after the sale.

RE: FINALLY got our TT!!!

I would keep it, fix what's wrong with it, and use it to learn how to do your own repairs for your next one. It's not *if* your trailer will leak, it's when. I'm on my 2nd one and both have had leaks, one within 9 months of the build date. It sucks, but it's an unfortunate part of camping (unless you're buying a several hundred thousand dollar RV, and even those can leak).

RE: Can a '06 1500 Suburban 6.0 3.73 handle a 7500GW TT?

Ah, an interesting question "Are you sure you only have the 1500? I thought 6.0L was 3/4 ton only."
Well, I am pretty sure, if for no other reason than the wheels have five lugs instead of six.
In 06, 1/2 ton models came with 6 lugs and 3/4 tons were 8 lug. You certainly do have a weird one-off model if yours has 5 lugs. ;)

RE: All guests must check in at the office before entering.

I wish my local park would have that policy. We have all sorts of different people wandering into the park on saturday and sundays. I would consider the inconvenience of my guests having to register as just part of keeping the rift-raft out.

RE: Roomiest 1-ton for family?

Two kids means they have to ride in the back. IMHO, 3 adults up front is going to be uncomfortable regardless.

RE: diesel reliability

I am 8000 miles into a 10,000 mile trip from coast to coast and back again.Towing my 15K loaded 5er.Averaging 14mpg so far.No maintenance other than an oil change since I left florida.
I'm sorry, but I've got to call "bull" on that statement. 15,000 lbs and 14mpg is unrealistic. Either your vehicle information center is lying to you or you aren't calculating mileage correctly.
If it is true post how you come up with these figures.

RE: Ethanol's effect on milage

We have several stations around town that advertise "No Ethanol". Those tend to be the busiest stations. Also ethanol absorbs water more than pure gasoline and really wreaks havoc with engines that aren't used often. I've had my lawn mower and ATV both develop problems like rust in the tank or carb issues, and boat owners really stay away as they are already in a high humidity environment.

RE: Might need a new rig - deisel this time?

Not to hijack your thread, but don't let some of these guys scare you away from a diesel because of costs. I don't see how they say it cost so much more to operate a diesel. I have an 06 duramax and it costs no more to operate than my old 02 silverado 5.3. Yes oil changes cost approx twice as much but I change my oil far less frequently. The DIC on my gasser had me changing oil every 3500-5000 miles. On my duramax it's every 10000-12000 miles. Fuel costs a little bit more but I get better fuel mileage (13 city / 17 hwy in the 5.3 vs. 16 city / 20 hwy in the diesel). I even get 3-4 mpg better when towing. Lastly, as far as the initial cost, it's only really bad (~$10k) if you buy new. I paid about $2500 more than a comparable 6.0 truck. I guess your results may vary, but it isn't as bad as some lead us to believe. Maybe I've just been lucky.

RE: installing peel & stick squares flooring in travel trailer

I agree with grandpalarry. I just helped a buddy replace a section of floor in his TT and finished it off with peel and stick tiles. Within a few days the tiles were peeling up from the heat. If I had to do it again I would get a roll of linoleum, glue it down, and use quarter-round moulding to keep the ends from peeling up.

RE: A look in the mirror the way RVers are sometimes viewed...

Ever stop to think that these people at the RV shows aren't RVers? I'm sure there are tons of non-RVers that are attracted to events that roll into town, such as an RV show. Usually there are a lot of booths offering free stuff, as well as games for the kids. I'd venture to say a good percentage of attendees of RV shows are what some people would call "trailer trash", possibly even window shopping to see what they want in their next home.

RE: trip south of New Orleans, LA

Lots of good information here. I live in Houma along Hwy 90 and you should be good to go. The fuel stops get sparse between Houma and Lafayette, but you shouldn't find yourself in a bind if you fill up at one of the truck stops along Hwy 90 in Raceland or Houma. There are mostly only smaller gas stations to Lafayette, but you should be good as it is only 100 miles to Lafayette.
In addition to Lake Fausse Point, Morgan City (along Hwy 90) has a nice campground called "Lake End Park" that we like to visit at least 1 weekend a month. Happy trails...

RE: $15,892.41

Since this wasn't a warranty repair, and the dealership was on bid, they didn't let the tech tear the engine down to see what actually failed. He, and I can only speculate as to what actually went wrong.
Pardon my ignorance but the way I see it, if you paid almost $16,000 for a new engine, that blown one is YOURS. I can see the boss not wanting to tie up a tech that could otherwise be making money for the dealership, but it shouldn't be a mystery. I would have told them to load up the old engine in the bed; if not for any reason other than to make sure they don't reuse the rest of the engine that's still good.

RE: School me on purchasing a new AC

Are your windows tinted? I bought a roll of 5% (limo) tint from Walmart to install in the front bedroom mainly to keep out sunlight when sleeping. I had quite a bit left over so I installed it on other windows in the living area. The result is it stays several degrees cooler inside the camper. The kind of tint I used is the removable home window tint. You clean the window, spray with a mister that comes with the tint, and then apply. Trim the edges, squeegie with an old credit card and you're done. You might try this cheap fix before dropping a thousand or more on a new or additional AC.
