RE: Bad smell

I would be more concerned that the odor was a sign of water damage.

RE: Convection oven cooking

I like ours. It just takes some practice. I still haven't figured out how to make decent toast in it.

RE: Kitchen on patio/curb side - do people really like this?

I like it on the curb side. I can see something besides the water/sewer when I look out the window while washing dishes.

RE: new to camping

I take biscuit mix. I use mayonaise or large peanut butter jars to use as cannisters for sugar etc. I have some wonderful square metal cannisters but I can see how much of everything is left in the clear plastic jars. Macaroni, instant pancake mix and anything similar goes into the jars. I keep dried onions in the TT to use if I run out of real onions. I do the same thing for food storage in our camper. I keep any clear plastic screw-on lid container that food comes in and re-use it for anything non-perishable. Cereal, rice, instant potatoes, flour, sugar, pasta... I do stock my camper differently than my pantry at home. I want meals that are easy and quick to prepare, without a lot of different dishes needed in the prep/cooking. I also want things that can be stored without refridgeration. I also pre-cook meats and casseroles that I can pop in the oven. I also pre-cut veggies like carrots, peppers, onions, etc and freeze them in small baggies to make storage and meal prep easier. A lot of rules that apply to making a kitchen at home work easier also apply to a camper. You just have to stay within your storage capacities! Costco sells nuts and candy in some great square plastic jars. I use them for canisters in the rv. I also keep powdered laundry detergent in one.

RE: new to camping

I keep a few small cans of evaporated milk in the pantry. We don't use a lot of milk, so I don't usually think to buy any before a trip. But when I need some for a recipe or a friend's coffee, I have my emergency milk. And it doesn't use any valuable fridge space.

RE: Motor Home Specialists Texas

We bought from them in August. Good experience. We bought a used motorhome with no warranty. It seemed to be in great condition. We still love it.

RE: Cake's first run

Great investment! I wish we could have gotten an RV when our kids were small. Don't let rain stop you. We packed up in the rain last Monday after a weekend at Lake Somerville. It was a mess. I had to wait 2 days before I could open up the compartments and dry everything out. I would do it all again! It was sooo worth it!

RE: Ideas for healthy non-filling appetizers?

Bruschetta on small bread. Something I do is stack a small piece of ham, Swiss, sliver of bell pepper, salt & pepper on party rye. Then bake til the cheese melts. For both of these I sometimes fry one side of the bread a little in olive oil with garlic.

RE: Out side extra storage Mods?

http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x325/jayherte/private/Motorhome/Airstream/Picture009.jpg width=640 What kind of covers do you have over your chairs? I'm looking for something to cover mine.

RE: Why does grilled cheese sandwiches stick in the pan?

I've only had it stick to a cheap thin (nonstick) griddle. I think the culprit is using too high heat. I threw out that griddle because I could not use it hit enough.

RE: Steering Wheel Table

Thanks, Dennis! DH would shoot me if one of my projects screwed up the steering. The tabletop I want to use is from one of those particle board side tables with screw on legs. The flimsy legs disappeared a long time ago. I'm confident dh and I can find a good way to stabilize the top to hold the ice maker. This will be great for getting the ice maker out of the way. Now if I can just get DH to put an elec outlet in that area. ;-) Dick, when I put ours into the table position it is pretty high. You might need a tall stool to reach your computer comfortably.

Steering Wheel Table

I have a small round tabletop I want to use over our steering wheel as a table. The wheel can be adjusted to a level position. Does anyone know how much weight the steering column/wheel can hold? I was planning to put the portable ice maker on the table. I think the ice maker weighs about 50 lbs.

RE: Pocket Door catch

There is a strap and snap to hold the doors open. We have 2 doors. On one I can see the plastic piece that holds the door closed. The other plastic piece is missing.

Pocket Door catch

Our sliding pocket door needs a new catch. I think this is a friction catch. Has anyone replace one of these? I can't locate one. Is this something Camping World has?
