RE: Moose and Bear in British Columbia on the Alaska Hwy

We are planning our trip for next summer. We are going with one other couple. We have started meeting and planning our trip. I can't wait. It's been on my bucket list FOREVER! DH has some health challenges, but all is under control. We just bought a little B+ for our "Alaska rig." Having fun outfitting it. I really enjoy reading this thread and know we are in for a good time. I so love what I am seeing and hearing.

RE: Charlottesville, VA Campgrounds?

The KOA is the best bet. Our daughter lives in C-ville and we go 2-3 times a year. We have a 40' Phaeton and we are careful to reserve a spot months in advance because we cannot fit everywhere in the KOA. In your Roadtrek, you would fit anywhere there. During the sports seasons, the campground fills up with fans. It is a bit pricey, but the people there are super nice. A young couple run the camp for his dad. Very accommodating. There is one other camp, but the guy there is a real jerk and the pool and showers are never cleaned it seems.

RE: Total Knee Replacement Recovery

My Dad developed cellulitis in his knee after a knee replacement. It was red, hot, swollen and painful. Antibiotics were used to treat it. Doctor was real vague about the cause, but I have had it and it was caused by bacteria introduced into an open wound.

RE: Is there such a thing

We use air mattresses in our motorhome. I cannot sleep on anything else. We have tried them all. Ones with built-in pumps seem to either leak or they do not inflate to the point where we can sleep on them comfortably. We don't like the sleep number bed. We use the $22 queen size Intek. It seems to do the best. Even then, we usually replace the mattress once a year. We keep a spare in the closet. We used AeroBeds for a couple years, but did find ourselves replacing them frequently. . . under warranty. When the warranty ran out, we switched.

RE: Easy-to-digest calories??

My Neal loved honey. When he was seizing, we found the seizure would dramatically drop his blood sugar and cause clusters that would go every 3 hours for 24 hours. Found that after the first seizure, I would squirt honey in his mouth with an oral syringe and within 2 hours he would be back to normal.
When he started to not eat, we used just about everything that has been suggested with varying results. He loved boiled hamburger or chicken with rice.

What beautiful dogs and what a great story. Your dog surely is alive because of your diligence to protect him from things he might normally be curious about.
Thanks for protecting your babies.

RE: Late and in pain

I hope you are feeling better and I hope you can get relief. I really get angry when doctors think patients are hypochondriacs. At that point I would say, "No, you just haven't run the right test and found the real problem." Every symptom has a cause. Some are easier to find than others. It sounds like you need the services of a teaching hospital.

RE: Can't move shift lever out of park.

Although this doesn't sound like your problem, I will throw it in there anyway. We were on the road in our Damon Intruder. I noticed the cruise control wasn't working very well. When we stopped at a rest stop for lunch, and started up again, I couldn't get it out of park. Try as we might, it just didn't happen. Found a blown fuse. It had to be tied in with the brake/cruise control. Once we replace that fuse, the problem was solved and never had it happen again.

RE: OH Amish area campground suggestions

We use Scenic Hills. Nice couple owns/runs it. If you are self contained, it's perfect. Nice and easy for big rigs. There is no playground/activities for kids, but we don't travel with any, so no problem. Nice and quiet.

We loved that park, but haven't been back since they started rebuilding. Glad to know it's taking shape nicely. Will have to get back there to see for ourselves.

RE: Our new bud

Congratulations on your new wee one. God bless you and all rescuers. All my dogs have been rescues. One of my last ones had been abused. They do carry more baggage than other dogs. Mine started to have some behavioral issues and started biting. We worked with an animal behaviorist who taught us how to handle it. Just wanted to let you know that even if you have some issues, they can usually be easily remedied. Thank God this little one found you!
Good luck!

RE: M.D. Anderson Hospital Houston

The South Main Street park is one choice. It is in a high traffic area, near the 610 loop and is harder to maneuver into but do-able. I believe they are Passport America for a couple nights.
We, however, chose Lakeview. It is just a short distance down the road and is much larger. . . a newer park with lots of room, particular if you have a big rig. Well landscaped, 50A FHU at every site, club house, 2 hot tubs, pool, lake, walking paths, etc. There are lots of patients at both parks and both parks have shuttle service to the area hospitals. Lakeview is expensive, but we were there for 3 months last year so we paid the monthly rate of $750.
The location of Lakeview actually gives you two choices into town. If there is a backup on South Main, we slipped in the back way and got in quickly.
Both parks are close proximity to MD Anderson. We were 4.2 miles away at Lakeview. The manager there is very diligent about keeping a safe camp and monitors the gate traffic all the time.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

RE: What is with these cursed danged ANTS?????

Put a liquid Terro bait where you see them most active... Let them take the bait back to the colony and soon they will be gone...
We've used this for years. I carry it in the motorhome and use it whenever I see ants. Works extremely well. It takes a day or two because they have to feed on it and return to the nest, but once they do. . . they are gone forever.

RE: Momma's Laptop Screen Gone

My Gateway laptop was 2 years old when the screen went. DH ordered a new one on line for $80 and also ordered a new inverter. It took both those items to fix it. He first tried just the screen and that didn't work, so he added the new inverter which is a small stick-like device. He found instructions on line along with pictures for a step by step procedure. Took less than 10 minutes and it's like new.
Do make sure you back up all important data before attempting.

RE: Montana LLC

It's not just the LLC's Minnesota is going after. We have friends who full time and are former residents of Minnesota. They have been notified they are being investigated and the state is attempting to collect fees and penalties from them to the tune of $56,000. They sold their home there and have no ties of their own to the state anymore but Minnesota says they have not proven they "left" the state.
They were back last summer to put his elderly mother in a nursing home. Apparently their rig was spotted at a campground with SD plates and so they were investigated. When it was discovered they had once lived in Minnesota, they were targeted. This nightmare is not yet resolved for them.
Personally I don't see how the state has anything on them. But they have had to hire an attorney.
Dale
What driver's licenses do they hold? If Minnesota, then I can see a potential problem. If they obtained SD driver's licenses when they registered their coach, then they shouldn't have a problem proving that, and I wouldn't think they would need an attorney to do so.
I do know they have SD drivers' licenses, car and rig tags, insurance, etc. I also would not think they have a problem, but the state of MN disagrees and they are currently in the middle of trying to prove they are SD residents.

RE: PMB (domicile address) for Medicare?

DH has been on Medicare since 2000. We went full time in 2005 and changed our domicile to SD with a PMB. Have never had a problem with Medicare parts A & B & D.
With regard to Parts B & D, you have to do your research as to what plans are offered in "your" state, but if you select from the list of available plans, there is no problem. That is true for whatever state you live in. Certain plans are offered in certain states. Some have requirements that you don't leave the state for more than "X" number of days. Don't pick that plan if you are a fulltimer. Most Part D plans are nationwide provided you use a national chain pharmacy, but again. . . do your research.

RE: Montana LLC

In reference to the MN couple with the registration issues. It is very easy to overlook your final, partial state income tax return. When we left CA I made sure that BOE was informed that our 2009 tax return was our final. It was also a partial year tax return which also lets them know you are gone. If the state has any other questions you show them your next years federal return as proof that you are no longer a resident. A little fore thought can eliminate most issues.
Randy
I can't speak about the tax return because I don't know. I do know they sold their home, changed their bank, severed all ties to MN. In fact, the wife is a SD native and her family is there.
When we left Indiana, we filed the final tax return.
