RE: What are the advantages to a 5th wheel?

Often discussed subject here on the forum with pros and cons to either choice. As for MPG, any increase or decrease will be nominal. Get whatever class of RV that suits your personal situation best, be it a pop-up camper, a million dollar class A, or anything in between. As they say, different strokes for different folks. Happy Camping!!!

RE: wheel chocks between wheels on spread axle?

For best results, use one on each side.

RE: Water in FW tank sitting for 3 weeks -- dump and sanitize?

Well water I would dump but clorinated city water is OK for a couple of months.

RE: Stabilizers down?

We don't but we did at first. They tend to get dirt on their drive screws during dust and rain storms, plus providing additional pathways for ants and mice infiltration. Of coarse, while camping all 4 stabilizing jacks are deployed.

RE: Tank sensor locations?

I don't know where my sensors are located either, but that's OK because I spray all the walls of the black tank anyway and sensors always work fine after rinsing.

RE: New Fridge on or off???

No harm either way, we leave ours off while stored in our backyard until a day or two before we leave on a trip.

RE: 8D size industrial 12 volt battery.

Seen them at our local Samsclub and they are reasonably (nowhere near $500) priced.

RE: Towing long or short TT?

Went from a 24' TT to a 33' TT towed by a 3/4 ton crewcab and didn't notice much change since the basic towing principles remain the same. Getting fuel with most any large TT presents a challenge, but nothing that can't be overcome with a bit of planning and patience.

RE: Do I Need A WDH

Obviously, you are suggesting you do not want to use a WD hitch and quite possibly you may not need one, but it's easy to find out by loading up your TT for camping, hitching up and giving her a test run, preferably simulating as many towing conditions (interstate speeds, high or crosswinds, etc) that one can encounter while towing. If you are OK with the comfort level you experienced on your test run, then you have your answer. I've done it and definitely prefer the comfort level provided by our WD/SC hitch plus it takes less than a couple of minutes to engage thanks to our power tongue jack.

RE: Newbie need advise for the length of TT

We pull a 32' 10K lb TT with 3/4 ton crewcab gasser and don't have any problems getting around town or in and out of gas stations, but it does take some getting used to. We always manage to find spots in State, Federal, and COE parks, but we plan ahead when staying at these facilities and arrive or reserve early. Private parks will normally have spaces for the large rigs so that isn't much of an issue. If that's the rig/floorplan you want and your TV is capable, go for it and enjoy. Just start out slow and easy and you will get the hang of it quickly. Having a high quality, properly installed WD hitch will give you a smooth, balanced towing experience so you don't feel overwhelmed and out of control. Happy Camping!!!

RE: Question on Dometic RM2354

It appears to be functioning properly as it can take some time to get to below 40 degrees and longer with the higher internal/external temps found in the Phx area. Check in the morning and it should be cold.

RE: Converter ?

Talk to Randy at Bestconverter.com as he has upgraded replacement converters with multi-stage charging capabilities that will greatly reduce generator runtime.

RE: Power while parked & battery

Depending on the charging capabilities of your current converter, it can and will eventually over-charge battery if it is of the single stage variety. We have ours always plugged in to shore power being stored in our backyard, and I upgraded to a multi-stage charging converter to eliminate such concerns. Adding a second battery will supply added capacity but may not be needed if you don't camp off the grid often. Although there is a gain when adding a battery at any time, paired batteries will provide better charging/discharging characteristics when matched in manufacture date and size. Happy camping in your Winnie.

RE: Too Much Tow Vehicle?

A call to the TT manufacturer would clear up any guess work on our part. I've seen plenty of similar-sized rigs being pulled by similar-sized tow vehicles, but I never thought it was dangerous. Enjoy your Jayco!!!

RE: Jacking up 5er

Had all 4 tires mounted and balanced on rims by Discount Tire and installed them myself using a jack under the spring perch. As mentioned above, it gave me the opportunity to service bearings and brakes.
